Algol in Horary Astrology

Theory and Practice

Algol is a fixed star known by the Arabs as Al-Ghul, which means "The Ghoul" or "Demon Star", by the Hebrews as Rosh ha Sitan, meaning "Satan's Head", or the Chinese as Tseih She, which means "Piled-up Corpses".

Influence of Algol: it causes misfortune, violence, decapitation, hanging, electrocution and mob violence, and gives a dogged and violent nature that causes death to the native or others. It is the most evil star in the heavens.(Robson)

In horary astrology, it signifies "losing one's head", metaphorically or literally.

Algol is at the origin of the word "alcohol" - a substance that actually makes one "lose the head". Also, there is a correlation between Algol and the Greek word "algo" which means pain and is widely used today in medicine, for instance in analgesics - drugs that remove pain.

Currently Algol is located at 26Tau15 (on Sep.1 2005), moving with 1 degree in 72 years.

Horary charts with proeminent Algol

Astrologer Diana Stone in her horary astrology column on astrologyguild.com gives a great example of Algol conjunct Pars Fortuna in the horary chart for "Should I buy this house?" (August 16, 2002, 7:20 pm PDT, Felida WA).

Besides the other elements of the horary chart, Pars Fortuna conjunct Algol is a certain indicator of bankruptcy or poverty and therefore the querent's plans to buy the house under market value and then resell it, failed lamentably.

Astrologer Lee Lehman on StarIQ.com presents the horary question " When Will We Be Together?" (June 30, 2000, 11:34 am EDT, Palm Beach, FL).

This question was asked by a married man about a potential affair: Saturn, ruler of the the 5th house is conjunct Algol, allowing a quick diagnostic in this case.

Horary examples from this site:

The same Algol-Pars Fortuna conjunction contributes to the negative answer in the case if a relationship question: "Is my husband happy in our marriage?". See the chart and read the comments here.

In the inquiry "Will Nada be healed?" about the medical condition of a woman sick of cancer, Venus, ruler of the 12th house (chronic illnesses) is conjunct Algol, pointing towards a negative answer. See the chart and read the comments here.

In the horary chart "Is the prediction true?" concerning the Tecumseh's curse, the Part of Death (ASC + 8th cusp - Moon) is conjunct Algol, the most malefic fixed star, describing the nature of the question. See the chart and read the comments here.
