Planets in house VS House ruler VS Aspects to cusp

In your eyes, how does each one of these manifest itself? I’d like to know this on a modern astrological perspective. How does a planet ruling any house differ from the planets found in that house vs. the aspects to the house on a psychological level?

Hi,
I think that the answer to your query depends strongly upon through which school of astrological thought/internet descriptions an astrology enthusiast is taught/self teaches.

My astrological upbringing was from the perspective that a planet in a sign takes precedence above 'anything else'. It is, after all, the character trait with and through which a person interacts with life's experiences, especially in the house realm circumstances in which it is situated.

Interpretting natal planets and their direct aspects at this level is often a work in itself, without the 'interference' of a house sign ruler in another sign/house trying to impart 'this is how and from where you (planet) should/can [further] look at your situation.' Is it easy to respect the value of a sun-tan if you're living in a sub-terranean tenament? Or to apprecate the value of a good education when trying to self support on a non-skilled minimum living wage (or vice versa), etc.etc.!! Or the ever present opposites often represented.

Is where the sign ruler of a house is situated of value to its sign's house? Is it under or over-estimated in interpretation? What else can it imply to a planet in its sign?

When speaking of 'aspects to cusp', do you mean a planet's aspect to the cusp of the house it is in, or to the cusp of its ruling sign?
