Using astro.com to get Vedic degrees (chart)
Most of AW visitors are using astro.com for their charts. Many times questions are asked from Vedic Astrologers without giving chart and just giving date/time information.
Although Vedic astrologers uses their own systems (because of several variations) and although few things are needed to see chart (basic chart, dasa, Navamansa charts), giving a basic chart from astro.com is better than just giving date/time.
While generating chart, in extended chart, select:
~ House system: Whole Sign
~ Zodic: Hindu/Lahiri Geocentric (sidereal)
~ Check on draw no lines
The generated chart will be having same houses and planets degrees as Vedic Chart.
Attaching example charts (first chart is Western, second one is Vedic)

1. http://www.mykundali.com/
2. http://www.illuminatetoday.com/download/jagannatha-hora-vedic-horoscope-software.html
For posting Vedic chart in Vedic format either North Indian or South Indian style, the above links will be useful . Plenty of options are available , particularly in Jagannath Hora , like different Ayanamsas, various Divisional charts, different house divisions, etc. for one to choose from as per his preference and experience.
Thanks

DIY Maha Dasa
This is basic Table:
Years Planet Sign degree sign sign
7 SN Ar 00:00 Le Sa
20 Ve Ar 13:20 Le Sa
6 Su Ar 26:40 Le Sa
10 Mo Ta 10:00 Vi Ca
7 Ma Ta 23:20 Vi Ca
18 Ra Ge 06:40 Li Aq
16 Ju Ge 20:00 Li Aq
19 Sa Ca 03:20 Sc Pi
17 Me Ca 16:40 Sc Pi
--------- 00:00
120 Yr
Vimsottari Dasa is of 120 years. Only seven basic planets, North Node and South Node are used.
In Sample chart Mon is Pi 15:08 Sidereal. Now look at chart. "10 Sa Ca 03:20 Sc Pi" 19 Years of Saturn starts for Pices at its 03:20 degree (15:08 is between 03:20 and 16:40).
So formula would be (Ephemaries provide tables to minimize this type of calculations)
((15:08 -3:20)/13:20) *19
= 11:48/13:20 * 19
= 11.80/13.33 * 19 ---------- Converted in decimal
= 16.81
~ 16 year 4 months 3 day
So already this much is over
Saturn remaining at birth:
2 yr 7 month 27 days add to 09/23/2010 (birth date)
Saturn upto 05/20/2013
So Now summarising:
Sat upto 05/20/2013
Mer upto --/--/2030
Ven upto --/--/2057
Sun upto --/--/2061
Mon upto --/--/2071
Mar upto --/--/2077
NN upto --/--/2095
Jup upto --/--/2111
(It is recommended to use some software. There might be errors in calculation. Purpose is to explain the concept).

Re: Using astro.com to get Vedic degrees (chart)
Other interesting finding you will have:
Complete cycle is three Vimsottary Dasa, which is 360 years.
Complete cycle of Western Direction is also 360 years.
Major difference is Wester Direction is even - approximately one degree a year - of MC/ASC progression. Vimsottari Dasa is non-uniform.
First 13.20 = 7 years South Node
Next 13.20 = 20 years Venus
Next 13.20 = 7 years Sun
Next 13:30 = 10 years Moon
Next 13:20 = 7 years Mars
Next 13:20 = 18 years North Node
Next 13:20 = 16 years Jupiter
Next 13:20 = 19 years Saturn
Next 13:20 = 17 years Mercury
---------------------
120 degrees = 120 years.
Again, starting point in this is moon's position

In the ancient teachings of Jyotish everywhere is an indication of who can be a real astrologer. Everywhere it is written that they will only "spiritual person.". Spirituality - is enlightenment of the mind, the same is the human condition. This condition is twice-born, and in this world have such a unit .. Mind not being able to distinguish between material, all turned on its head in the direction of his perception that there is fraud, this description of the mind is material in the Vedas, as the body most distant from the soul, which is designed to err, to steal, to plan and speculate.
[personal comment removed, please keep converstations to the subject and not directed at other forum members, thanks - moderator]
Right and left, good and evil and all the other opposites of this world. There is one rule in the matter, that reasonable people unity. Then, if the law accepts and legitimizes official laws of the Supreme Spiritual state, then this is for him the fate of the material and condition of the soul is a hoax. . Officer receives fate to manipulate matter, but does not free the sciences like astrology and science of the mind of the True.? The government and its employees in the Kali Yuga are not spiritual karma. Then Ayanamsa Lahiri and others, whom God allowed to appear in the material world is an illusion, as the world gives it.
Then the child will tell you that you and all Hindus, as well as Western astrology, knowledge of a material bearing the shade, just a grain of truth, that mind is material as a carrier of opposite charge of energy can not distinguish. It is in the material world anywhere, any illusion of science. So you and others on this forum are taught to cheat?
[personal comment removed - moderator]
I'm on to know the habits of mind, he begins to justify himself, or having power, "the dictator in slippers" and I just delete this post from the topic and the forum .. Because without a foundation of knowledge the mind can not rely on the fact that he can not have by nature.

Re: Using astro.com to get Vedic degrees (chart)
It would have been better, had there been the methods on 'how to read a vedic chart' given in this thread for a basic idea like in all sticky threads.
I just generated a kundali chart from the above programmes and i dont understand any bit of it except the lines written in interpretation. And they too, being generated by automatic softwares, give some things too good and other things equally opposite to them.
So, as a request to vedic astrologers out there, please take some time to teach the basic concepts.

3. Time Zone should be selected based on www.astro.com chart after deducting (time – Universal time), say, time is 6.23 am & universal time is 5.23 then time zone should be +1
4. Ayanamsa selected should be ‘ N.C. Lahiri”
5. Chart style suggested to use ‘ South Indian”
6. Click ‘Get Kundali”
7. Click ‘Print format 1- PDF” under “ calculations’ in left pane [ below Western system]: this will give a vedic chart with Dasa etc in one page PDF format.
Next attach this chart as follows in your thread:

2. Click “Browse”
3. Select the chart saved on computer
4. Click ‘upload”

Re: Using astro.com to get Vedic degrees (chart)
I really want to learn Vedic astrology. I went to the first site, but am not sure how to put in my birth time, as it is asking for three fields although it is in a 24-hour format. It also gave me a different rising sign than my western chart. Did I enter it wrong or is it that different with Vedic?

Re: Using astro.com to get Vedic degrees (chart)
Vedic astrology is primarily sidereal (although a tiny % using Vedic are "sanyana", ie, using the tropical zodiac-like me-rather than the sidereal zodiac)-sidereal meaning using the 12 moving starry zodiacal constellations (rather than the immutable SIGNS of the division of space, which is what is called "tropical" and which is the basis of Western astrology, ancient and Modernist) So, your your rising CONSTELLATION using Vedic (sidereal Vedic) astrology would quite likely be different than the Western (tropical) rising SIGN, for your chart.
Easiest way to erect a Vedic (sidereal Vedic) chart is to do so at astro.com, following the instructions for doing so given earlier in this thread.

Re: Using astro.com to get Vedic degrees (chart)
Thanks, Dr. Farr. It really is quite different. Everything is different in this chart from my western chart, quite different! Why don't they use Pluto and Uranus?

Re: Using astro.com to get Vedic degrees (chart)
While some using a "modernizing"-tending variation of Vedic (called KP astrology) do include Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, the vast majority of devotees and practitioners use only the traditional planets (and Nodes, and certain special "points" such as "Mandi" and "Gulika") that were elaborated in the ancient classics: no different, though, than the revived Western Traditionalist astrology (now quite popular), which also excludes the outer planets (and all other developments in astrology occuring after the year 1700) from consideration.
