The Combination of Stellar Influences by Reinhold Ebertin, and The Twelve Houses by Howard Sasportas are both well-known, classic astrology books, useful for both beginners and advanced astrologers alike.

In your opinion which do you think is the better and more useful of the two, and why?

they are about two different things - midpoints (cosi) and houses. unless you are big into midpoint work, go with twelve houses.
