Although my avatar is a very artistic representation of a person (with two more witnesses) testifying to have witnessed the new moon at sunset to the Sanhedrin (there wasn't a mathematical Hebrew calendar), people observe different crescents in the Southern Hemisphere (and of course risings at different times from Jerusalem anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere)

Pope's Southern Hemisphere chart mirrored as one would see the horizon and the planets in real life. - https://i.imgur.com/81IoM9D.png

Planets rise on the left and set to the right in the Northern Hemisphere.

In 12/12 the Ascendant is tracked as a transiting indicator which is Domicle-ruler of Sagittarius. It's linked to Apollo, god of Sunrise, derived from Solar Horus, Egyptian god of Sunrise, from which the words Horizon and Horoscope are derived. Apollo was god of archery, and using a horizontal line to represent the horizon, and an arrow slanting /, on the left side of the zodiac, crossing from below to above the Horizonal Line, you have both the glyph used for Sagittarius, and the direction of the Sun across the sky East to West in the Northern hemisphere, during the daylight hours.

To show the direction of the Sun from East to West in the Southern hemisphere, simply use the arrow slanting \ , on the right side of the zodiac. In other words, the symbol for Sagittarius, with a horizontal line as it's shown in my Rosicrucian ephemeris (instead of , which tilts the Horizonal Line), would have made an excellent, illustrative symbol for the Ascendant.

The same for the Descendant, with the arrow pointing downward (/) on the right side for the Northern hemisphere, and downward (\) on the left side for the Southern hemisphere, showing the direction the Sun travels during the night in any given location.

But, it's already in use, symbolizing the Sign it rules. So, no glyph for the "Asc.".

When it's below the horizon.

The Centaur image for Sagittarius includes the entire race of Centaurs, not just Chiron, its most illustrious, but in some ways, least typical member.
After Saturn's defeat and imprisonment by the Olympian deities, his son Chiron was adopted and mentored by Apollo. Apollo RULED archery, and Sagittarius is the Sign of the Archer. Therefore and to wit, Apollo is the Native-ruler of Sagittarius.

How does this translate to the material fortune or psychology of the native?

Brother Sun (Apollo) receives emotional support from Sister Moon (Artemis/Diana), so in the Sign Native-ruled by the Moon, a strong and fortunate Ascendant placement.
