traditional planetary oppositions

I have been thinking about the nature of oppositions in relation to tradition rulers.

Jupiter always opposes mercury, venus to mars, and then Saturn opposes both the sun and moon.

I was thinking about some primal polarities represented here....

Male-Female (Mars-Venus)
God's Mind-Man's Mind (Jupiter-Mercury)
and then "The other" opposing both the inner and outer Self. (Saturn-Sun/Moon)

It struck me strongly as all three planetary oppositions are repeated eg, Pisces to Virgo, and then Sag to Gemini.

Is there something archetypal about these opposing planets?? Will appreciate anyone's thoughts on this

Flea,

Are you aware of this, starting at Leo and going counter-clockwise:

Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn

Then starting at Cancer going clockwise:

Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn

I mention this only because I never saw that pattern, not for years. I started with the modern rulerships and never got the traditional ones set in my head.

When considering rulership, you are right:

Jupiter/Mercury
Venus/Mars
Saturn/Sun
Saturn/Moon

However, when the planets are exalted, it changes a bit:

Sun/Saturn (Aries/Libra)
Mercury/Venus (Virgo/Pisces)
Mars/Jupiter (Capricorn/Cancer)
North Node/South Node (Gemini/Sagittarius)

And the Moon is opposed by nothing, since nothing is exalted in Scorpio.

To me this is very interesting, since the exaltations put a different "spin" on the idea of opposition. ;)

Perhaps the constant battle between the mind and heart? :D

That, my friends, was definately a shot in the dark. ^.^'
[Mars/Jupiter (Capricorn/Cancer)]

Uh...hm...the assailant and the guardian?

Shot take two!
Jupiter in Cancer was the hardest exaltation for me to remember.

But Mars in Capricorn always made sense to me. I think of steady, patient, relentless power. :)

Now, where is shot take three?

Yes I can see that pattern now thanks for reminding me.

I have moon in cancer wide opposition to mars in Capricorn. Also Pluto/Uranus in Virgo opp 9 deg orb to Saturn in pisces. Then jupiter in gem opp sun in sag. So my interest in oppositions. I liked the ruulerships specifically because they are all repeated, there are some fantastic patterns in astrology, really love them.
