Ah, you wanna know a secret? I thought the same before reading and meditating on the idea.

Whenever someone exclaims "no regrets" they are usually fulfilling some selfish desire they know is inherently bad, but just want an excuse to act on it. To act unwisely, against their better judgement. But as I wrote above, that quote is discussing the idea of "desire-less action." So, when the desire is taken out of our actions, we can't regret anything as we want nothing.

This can also be seen in the golden rule - don't do unto others. By not pushing desires unto other beings, we give the freedom we are all born with. Life would look very different if we all followed these rules, which ensure freedom of the individual and by extension, all of earths inhabitants.

Funny side note: The golden rule, as you know it, has an eastern counterpart: The rule of Dharma.

Sorry about the ramble, but I do so enjoy these discussions.

Are you the kind of guys to hope for much karmic backlash for those who close off or freeze the right legs of women off from their experience?
You can only shout about so much from the past, right?

Cause and effect

~ Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

To expect happiness without giving up negative action
is like holding your hand in a fire and hoping not to be burned.
Of course, no one actually wants to suffer, to be sick, to be cold or hungry
- but as long as we continue to indulge in wrong doing
we will never put an end to suffering.
Likewise, we will never achieve happiness, except
through positive deeds, words, and thoughts.
Positive action is something we have to cultivate ourselves;
it can be neither bought nor stolen, and
no one ever stumbles on it just by chance.

THE TEACHINGS OF BUDDHA

The heavens and hells of Buddhism are
the conditions of consciousness in which men live.

A man whose heart is filled with hate
must abide in an inferno of his own making.

Wisdom brings with it peace and peace is paradise.
Men do not go to heaven or hell when they die.
They live it throughout their lives
according to the measure of their own understanding
their own good and evil impulses.

The only important thing is karma wich is not easy to understand

Every cells in our body is directly related to karma and react.
Healing to body, mind and soul can remove all negative karmas.

A SINGLE CAUSE WILL NOT BRING A RESULT

There are people who are thinking :
“I’m giving, I’m always generous
but
I’m not getting any happiness yet.”
Right? The result of that generosity, the happiness
is not like a flashlight.
You can’t switch it on and everything is bright.
It needs time.
To bring the result back, it also needs other causes

That’s why Dharmakirti, and all those philosophers say:
A single cause cannot bring any kind of result.
To get a result takes many causes.
Something like that, right?
Some people have done a little virtue
and expect a result really soon.
Some people did a lot and the result did not come in immediately.
It arrived on a delay.
Why? We don’t know why. We cannot tell exactly.
If you throw down two eggs and one egg breaks and the other one did not
you can get an answer immediately. You can explain it.

You cannot explain the karmic system that way.
It’s not that simple.
In that case, here we are talking about karmic causality.
It’s important.
Otherwise you cannot explain samsara.
You cannot explain the cycle of life.

You can tell an animal eats a tree or bush, and then they die
and become compost, [laughter] and the grass grows again.
These kinds of cycles are not hard to see.
You can see everything in your small part.
But that cannot explain samsara.
It can only explain the cycle of vegetation and these things
but it cannot explain samsara.
So to explain samsara, you have to know the cause and effect
of your acts and your mind, and your karma
and the reason it comes through that way.
If you understand samsara pretty well
then you will get reasons we should do certain things and reasons
why we should not do certain things.

Prepare yourself for death ~ Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
https://justdharma.com/s/awuln
Even in times of peace
a nation foresees the eventuality of war
and remains ready to respond.
In the same way, stay on the alert
and prepare yourself for death by practicing the Dharma
Like an eternal harvest, it will keep you supplied with provisions for the life to come
and will be the very basis of your future happiness.

I have always kept it personal for me, I have not idea about anyone else Karma and it is hard to guess what will happen, to someone until it comes around and manifests in real life.

Karma yoga is a path to reach moksha (spiritual liberation) through work. It is rightful action without being attached to fruits or being manipulated by what the results might be, a dedication to one's duty, and trying one's best while being neutral to rewards or outcomes such as success or failure.

I had a spiritual teacher say the best thing about karma: karma is generated when one person puts their energy in the path of someone else, essentially taking them off their spiritual path. Another way this could be viewed is to think of it as “programming”. Happens ALL the time. Marketing is an expression of mass programming, to have or be a certain way. Another expression of this energy is when you have someone in your life who needs help, and you (in the spirit of being helpful) give your solution to their problem (think about parenting...). But more often than not, people need the exercise of finding their own answers (or wading thru thoughtful suggestions ;). Just a few thoughts.

Talking about karma cause and effect in terms of virtue and non-virtue
is an extremely simplified way of understanding it.
We do something to someone else
and
same thing will happen back to us.
But when we look at karma more deeply
it’s not at all simple or easy to understand.

Actually, karma cause and effect is a difficult and complicated topic
because
it is related to all sentient beings in the entire universe.

Karma is not just a connection between a few individuals
it’s the interrelationship of all sentient beings
throughout the sum of space in the entire universe.
The results are also extremely complex
as there are myriads of circumstances
that affect the ripening of karma.

This presentation of karma cause and effect
is a particular feature of Buddhism.
Ultimately, many religions come down to a single cause
but in Buddhism
we talk about everything arising from a variety of different causes
and conditions - no single autonomous creator or thing can be established.

A multiplicity of situations gives rise to a phenomenon
so it is difficult to state that there is a single, autonomous, or initial cause.
If we can come to an understanding of karma cause and effect like this
it will not only help us understand Buddha Dharma
but also benefit us in this human life as well.

The second point of the Bodhichitta aspiration vows
is always to call to mind the ultimate
and the relative benefits
of Bodhichitta so as not to lose its full power

Let us take the example of two people of the same age
and similar situation who have incurable cancer.
One understands Dharma and so knows that what is happening to him
is due to a karmic cause and not just an immediate physical cause.
The other believes that it is just happening now
and has no understanding of karma. He will suffer
because he thinks: "....I wanted so much to be happy like my friends
but I can only lie here. Why should this happen to me...?"
and the more he thinks like this the more unbearable it will become.

The person who understands Dharma
knows that he has karmic potential for such suffering and that it is ripening.
He understands why such a thing should happen to him
even if he does not know all the details precisely
If his understanding is a little deeper than that
he will know that his karmic experience is like the broom that clears away the cuases of suffering

In order to meditate, it is very important

to first identify what we are meditating on.
If we meditate without identifying that
there is the danger it will become idiot meditation or idiot Dharma

If we do not first fully comprehend
through listening and contemplating the meaning

of what we are meditating on
how can we practice?

Peace and blessings be for all of us.

Our past and present actions define our future

If we have a line of bad actions in the past
we can better our karma by doing some acts of kindness

and generosity

now

in order secure a good future.

We are humans and we may make mistakes
but there is always a comeback through good deeds.

Being disappointed or frustrated is of no use.

We should let go of the past

and

be ready to strive hard for a new and bright future.

I've grown much since my first post. Now I notice that the flow of kamma is to be swam skillfully if one seeks higher states an unskillfully if one wishes to fall lower in the ocean of kamma.

Virtue or meritorious deeds that cause no harm are skillful swimming.

Vice or demerit see one swim unskillfully, sinking to the bottom of the conditioned.

I think there is a real reason we do not remember
or better said, we forget, our past lives and it is a blessing in disguise......
It's so that that we can restart each new time with a clean slate.
If one accepts
that '...karmas...' aka '...actions...' lead to consequences
then '...clean slates...' are theoretical
In another thread where a similar question was asked, there was
a discussion about a film of an extremely, intelligent woman who
was not able to forget a single memory from her entire life.
She was fighting with her sister whom she now hated, because
she wasn't able to forget any of the slights and fights they'd had
while they were growing up. Her memories kept coming back
and she was unable to forget and ultimately, forgive her sister.
She ended up alone, depressed and miserable.
There is a real benefit to our well being
when we are not able to remember painful experiences, because
it allows us another opportunity at dealing with the problem again,
without predjudice and maybe this time with more success.
forgiving a person
ONLY because we simply cannot remember what they did
is not forgiveness!
BECAUSE
if we cannot remember the "...bad..." the person did to us, then
we are only being nice to them
because we have a poor memory
– and that's easy!

forgiving someone EVEN IF we remember precisely
the awful things that person did to us
is the meaning of forgiveness.
Whereas, NOT forgiving someone because we can remember precisely
the bad stuff that person did to us is “...bearing a grudge...”
and
is a dangerous state of mind
because

it can lead to thoughts of “...taking revenge..."
We may think we are '...entitled...'
or
'...justified...'
to '...take revenge...'
BUT
our thinking may be flawed!

the woman was unhappy
NOT because she had a good memory
but because of her reaction to memories.

given the theory that '...karmas...' aka '...actions...' are basically
the causes of effects
THEN suffering/non-suffering occurs for that reason

If a mango seed is planted then a mango tree will grow
– when the right conditions are in place.

If grass seed is planted then grass will grow
– when the right conditions are in place.

I forget which Ajahn told us this but the way Bhikkhus apologize is by describing, in detail, what they are apologizing for, so that it can be truly forgiven and no ill-will can remain.

The Bhikkhu told us laypeople to apologize in this way.
