Modern Astrology For discussions on Modern Astrology only. (Note: Typically, modern astrology is defined as using techniques developed around the late 1800s by Theosophists. Specifically it relies on psychological, evolutionary, karmic, and non-western interpretation approaches and includes Neptune, Uranus and Pluto, and non-Ptolemaic aspects. The focus is more on psychological chart interpretation instead of prediction.)

What is the consensus on Gauquelin sector “rules?”

I keep reading various things about these sectors.

One source said it ONLY refers to 10 degrees above or below the ascendant or midheaven.

Another source focused on the 9th/12th houses as a whole as well as ~ a few degrees (10 degrees?) above the ascendant and midheaven.

Other sources then ALSO included the 6th house and 3rd house near the descendant and IC respectively.

Then there were sources that said there were career findings only for Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, and Moon. One source said that having one of these planets in the 9th and 12th house PLUS having “harmonic” aspects to other planets were the best indicators of significance.

Another source ALSO included some of the other planets include Neptune (indicating longer life), Uranus, sun, Venus, etc.

So I am curious as to what is the true consensus, at this point, regarding the rules!

Gauquelin sector charts divide the local sky into 36 "sectors". These sectors are similar to houses, which means there's roughly 3 sectors per house, however they're calculated somewhat differently. That means a planet in the 12th house will usually but not always be in sector 1-3. An example Gauquelin sector chart from Astrolog can be seen above.

Some sectors are considered "plus zones" or more significant, which means planets in them are considered more significant. These plus zones are near the angles or slightly after them. Different sources consider different sectors to be plus zones, but the most common way to define them is one sector before and 2 after each angle (or 3 sectors after for the important Asc and MC angles).
