What does traditional astrology have to say about the 8th?

The more I examine Mtty's chart, the more I feel like we have some sort of connection. It's so weird.

Numerologically, he's a Life Path 6 and I'm a 9. His 6 comes from August (8) + 27 (9) + 1987 (25=7). 7 + 9 + 8 = 24 (MY BIRTHDATE) = 6.

Also, his destiny card in the playing cards system is the Queen of Hearts while mine is the King of Hearts.

Lastly, his Jupiter is bang-on conjunct my Moon in Aries, with a separation of only 10 minutes!

How do you like that??

Hello 8th house readers...I am an 8th house sun and am in a period of severe 8th house transit (Venus is there now, Mars and Uranus recently left). I feel my 8th house DEEPLY all my life. Could you please take a look at my chart and let me know what you see? Some astrologers would define the Mercury in my 8th as the focal point of a yod created by Moon & Uranus at the base. It's a widish angle to the moon...but I feel something to this as the occult, themes of life/death/regeneration, Scorpionic themes of descending to ascend, sex, other people's resources (I always seem to be the one connecting person to person, resource to resource, and never getting anything out of it other than warm fuzzies :pouty:), and transformation/transmutation...my mother likes to tell a funny story about the first time she heard me read at age 3, and it was from the book on her night table at the time: "On Death & Dying." How 8th house. I feel right now the 8th house has me in its deathly grip, and there is nothing to do but pass through it (metaphorical death, of course).

You must really be a magnetic type of person! Sexy as well...gotta love it!

That's the modern opinion, Claire. In trad it's a bit different. The eighth house is not related to sex, that falls under the aegis of the fifth house.

Also, a planet being in the 8th, or idle place, isn't the same as a person being there.

The OP is versed in modern astrology, and asked for a traditionalist perspective, which is what I provided. He's certainly free to agree or disagree as he sees fit.
In support of Modern astrologers, my twopenneth

The Eighth House - conception
The eighth house covers sex, death, and other people's resources. Most beginning astrologers question how these areas of life are related, and the explanation offers insight into some of life's most intriguing activities. The lives of others impact our lives on a moment-to-moment basis. Every human interaction engages the mental, emotional, material or spiritual resources of at least one other person. Sexual response and sexual expression form a fundamental area for us to cultivate the spiritual connection with others through the physical connection.”
http://www.llewellyn.com/encyclopedia/article/130
“deepest fears, obsessions, denied dreams, ability to love and care for children, sexual hang ups, obsession/relationship with money, need to exploit others, length and breadth of vanity, secret desire to rule the world, {Or at least, your world and everyone in it} and every religious neurotic tendency you could ever invent, relate to, dispose or crave. According to traditional astrology the 8th house is the precarious domain of sex, death and money. But, it has been my experience that the 8th house goes much deeper than these obvious realities”

“One way to read a birth chart is to start with the Eighth House, where conception begins. During the nine months of pregnancy, the cycle travels from the beginning of the Eighth House to the ascendant, which represents the moment of birth, the baby's first breath”

that stellium in 8th is involved a lovely Grand trine, only venus/mercury receives a square from Saturn in 12th house.

Venus squ saturn can show feelings of being unloved from childhood and having to work hard for financial recompense. Mercury squ saturn is good for studying and disciplined communications/writings etc.

Have you researched your moon singleton, plus it's square to neptune. This is emotional disillusionment and sometimes has been linked with eating disorders to. Pluto is also a singleton

I see the venus trine neptune as being very psychic, spiritual.

The houses are like the backdrop of a stage, the setting if you like, the planets are like actors and the aspects are how the planets behave in that settings/stage....So remember you may find it harder to identify with planets and Saturn in this case in Cadent houses….

"Saturn’s" influence seems to be more obvious in the houses than in the signs ‑ can rule the life with an iron rod, although invisible, by undermining the sense of self‑worth and making it difficult for the individual to permit any close emotional contacts.

Saturn's sign indicates what you find uncomfortable and must learn to manage.

Where and how you feel a lack of confidence -- the house position of Saturn defines where you need to establish your skills, an issue you worry about and wish you could depend on !

Takes 28 years to go around zodiac. Stays in each sign of approx 2.1/2 yrs
Keywords: Saturn = Structure, duty, limitation, restriction.

If Saturn and Uranus fall in the same sign or house we get caught in a cleft stick, wanting to make changes but fearing to let go of the old.

I have an eighth house stellium as well, I'm curious what the traditional astrologers have to say about it?

I'm also wondering if 8th House stellia encourage people to become physicians (besides generating interest in the occult and metaphysics).

There are no malifics in your 8th house, which is good BUT the key to your chart is researching your YODS.

Libra Asc, gemini sun (also pisces) all have problems with restlessness and procrastination in my mind. In fact gemini are notorious for sitting on the fence and not wanting to make decisions at all if they can get away with it. So how 'afflicted' are you in this department? :surprised:

And you hit close to home :pinched:

Yes, I do struggle with indecision and procrastination. It took me a long time to realize it was okay to announce my desires in a group.

Now I'm off to research Yods. Thanks, Astrologer50!

Matty, are you related to me somehow? Our charts are VERY similar!!! What does this mean? Are you a soul mate of sorts? My astrological twin? There has to be something to this!
Wow, that really is something. I have never seen a chart that looks so identical to mine! Kites are pretty rare configurations, so yeah, thats awesome. Lots of the same house placements too.

Well about Moon square Neptune, yes I am definitley emotionally disillusioned, lol. Not as much as I used to be though, which is good. I think my singleton moon is pretty powerful. I have a stellium in Virgo, but sometimes I think people are seeing a more Libra side of me, because of the way I react to people. Pluto is a singleton too as you noticed. It's conjunct my Midheaven, which is likely why I rise to positions of power at whatever job I happen to be doing at any given time.

I can relate to what you said about Saturn & Uranus being in the same house/sign too. I think change will be winning this year though...big changes.

Thx for writing!

I am also new to this, but I also have both my venus and mars in gemini conjunct in the 8th house. My north node is also in cancer in the 8th house, I have absolutely no clue what that means, still reading up on it

Mercury in the 8th can show a pre deceased sibling. However I dont lump cousins in with neighbours or friends. They belong to aunt's children or uncles..........6th + 5th or conversely 12th + 5th so either 10th or 4th houses depending on what side of the family. This I have borne out in my experience......

I also have an 8th house stellium and use modern astrology but I am anything but idle. For me it is inheritance, crises and transformations, life and death matters, debts and loans, gifts and shared resources such as investments.
It deals with the occult, secret activities and the sexual orgasm or the "little death" of sex. It is rather a heavy house actually.

My eldest daughter has her Uranus, Pluto and the Moon all in the 8th house. She did not have any pre-deceased siblings however, her younger sister died prematurely a few years ago. She was my youngest child.

Her daughter (my granddaughter) was born with Sun-Merc-Venus all in Virgo and in the 8th along with her NN, and her Moon in Leo. She has had a lot of physical issues in her young life. She and her mother are very close emotionally, and sometimes I think its very confining to her growth but its how they want it. (fate)

My husband has Uranus in his 8th house and prior to his birth his mother lost a child (his sibling, a girl) just before she conceived him.

I just discovered this thread, and enjoy it so far, but I'm just starting to read it so decided to post this in case anyone else reads here.

Wondering too, where can I read more about the "idle house"? and the other houses as mentioned on this thread.

Olivia,

I can't help but compliment you for your excellent astrological knowledge and chart-interpretational skills on this very old thread.

You are one of the handful of members, whose posts I really look forward to chancing upon in terms of enhancing my own astro skills. No-nonsense, straight down to actual Astrology posts, without much of the other mundane, psychological stuff (which can be useful in general, but certainly puts Astrology in the background). Also, very decent in terms of language, without personal attacks and cynical sarcasm, which make your posts so focused on - just Astrology. Excellent. I hope you still visit this forum.
