- Ancient Hindu Astrology for the Modern Western Astrologer by James T. Braha

- Light on Life by Robert Svoboda

In addition to the wonderful DeFouw and Braha books mentioned above, a really clear little primer, conscise and having a self-directed type of learning format, is G.S. Kapoor's "Learn Astrology the Easy Way" (available from various internet sources, such as astroamerica.com)
