Was the Mayan Calendar started in Izapa, Mexico

I have a great deal of interest in the Mayan Calendar, i never thought that an awful event would happen on 21st December 2012.
If i thought at all, it would have had more of a long period of change attached to it, perhaps Global Warming that is becoming more apparent.
I'm not interested in the debate of if it is man made, rather that it is happening, so we have to deal with it.

Many think that the Mayan Calendar started in Izapa, Mexico, so we do have a location to set the scene to try to understand 21st December 2012, what are your thoughts?

The Maya are usually cited as the predictors of the world ending 2012
But 2012 was the ending of just ONE of their "great cycles".

The Maya were brilliant mathematicians
as well as fantastic record keepers

- the Mays developed many different kinds of calendars
including a cyclical solar calendar and a sacred almanac.

The Maya also measured time with the Long Count,
which were great cycles of 5,000 years.

Hi Jup,
I'm still wondering about the Mayan Calendar, a lot has been said about it aligning to the centre of our Galaxy, but everyone missed my research below which can't be by chance!

You will see if we use ancient Egyptian sunrise day marker on 21st December 2012 in Izapa, Mexico, we get Sirius Setting, how are Egyptian, Mayan and Gregorian calendars all aligned to Sirius?

Jupiter's alignment with Saturn
occurs at intervals of just under 20 years
The aspect is occasionally repeated due to a retrograde
of one or both planets.
Each successive conjunction
not counting retrograde repeats
occurs at a mean advance of
approximately 243 degrees relative to its predecessor
although from one alignment to the next
this arc can vary considerably.

Every third conjunction
i.e.
once every 60 years
brings the alignment back
to its starting place, plus around 9 degrees:
this 60 year cycle is termed
FIRST ORDER RECURRENCE of the conjunction.

Every 40th conjunction - roughly once every 800 years -
brings the alignment back to within about 1 degree of its starting place:
this approximate 800 year cycle is termed SECOND ORDER RECURRENCE
aka GREAT MUTATION CYCLE

The full cycle of Venus is 800 years.
Hi Monk - your interest is also Venus cycles
Maya catalogued Venus for thousands of years

Hi Jup,
The transit of Venus, being you can see it on the Sun happens approx. every 150 years, don't quote me as i can not remember tonight.
"I found the Transit, it is below":-

The time it takes to complete a pentagram cycle is approx. 8 years.

that's vague

no mention of an 800 year full cycle at that link
no date given at that link
and so
to be completely clear
if you would post specific day, month, year of a commencement of a Venus cycle
in tandem with
specific day, month, year of ending of that particular one full Venus cycle 800 years later
