It may be of some value to you , and if not "value", then perhaps at least of some interest, what Rabbi Joel C. Dobin wrote about eclipses in his book "Kabbalistic Astrology", pages 216 - 217?
"We also know that the Rabbis of the Talmud continued their interest in that area of Astrology for which the Divine Science was originally birthed: Mundane Astrology. And as was the case in all of ancient mundane astrological practice, the ruler was most anxious to know specifically of his own country first. Therefore the example of Mundane Astrlogy below is naturally directed toward answering the questions of the Childen of Israel:
R Meir said: ' When the Sun is in eclipse, it is a bad omen for idolators; when the Moon is in eclipse, it is a bad omen for Israel, since Israel reckons [time] by the Moon and idolators by the Sun.
When the Sun is [seen] eclipsed in the East it is bad for dwellers in the East. When [the Sun is seen eclipsed] in the West, it is bad for dwellers in the West. When [the Sun is seen eclipsed] in the center, it is bad for the whole world.
If [during the eclipse] the Sun's face is red, it means war; if it is dark and gloomy, it means famine. If[the eclipse is seen] at sunset, trouble will take time in coming, if [the eclipse] is seen at dawn, trouble is coming fast. The Sun is eclipsed for four reasons:
1. A president of the Sanhedrin who died and was not mourned properly.
2. A betrothed maiden who cried 'rape!' in a city, and none helped her [Deut 22:24]
3. Sodomy
4. Two brothers who were murdered at the same time.
The Moon is eclipsed for four reasons:
1. Forgery
2. Giving false witness
3. Raising animals that forage in the fields of others
4. Those that destroy good trees
[Sukkah 29a]"
Rabbi Dobin followed up with stating that He had hoped to later publish what would be an historical astrological confrontation from a proper analysis of these given reasons for solar and lunar eclipses. He also wrote that He would give one "tantalizing view" as a to entice the reader to become interested in the proposed article. That being; the reasons given for solar eclipses all involved tragedies which occurred only under foreign occupation of the Holy Land, where as reasons given for lunar eclipses involve transgressions against the property of others.
How this information can be adapted to the mundane astrology of nations other than Israel is of possible interest. The rabbi did have more to say about eclipses in another chapter of the same book."
[If I may be allowed to digress here, thank you? I don't know if I can agree with the commentary about idolators of the Sun, given what I know about Freud's research presented in his book "Moses and Monotheism", i.e. Hebraism being the same religion as was known in ancient Egypt as that of the "Aten" or "Aton"... along with what I have learned from studying the readings of Edgar Cayce, that the religion of the Aten originated in Atlantis, and my own practices of many years involving Sun rites derived from the Sanatan Dharm of India, and what Rudolf Steiner had to say about matters of such rites, the neglect of such practices by Parsival, and that said neglect was a major cause of his ability to obtain the Holy Grail. King Hezikiah warned his people about their corruption of ancient practices just prior to their enslavement by the Babylonians and what was written above was written after the Hebrews were released from 500 years of enslavement by the Babylonians...
and for which, after much contemplation over the years since I first heard of the objection of the existence of the modern nation of Israel for the following given reason, I have come to finally admit that many of the Islamic faith believe they do have good reason to decry the re-occupation of the land known as Israel by those of the Hebrew faith. Although I also believe Edgar Cayce's words that the Essenes were never enslaved and had practiced the teachings of Melchizedek uninterruptedly since the days He had walked upon the earth and that, coupled with what the "good book" says about the land given to the Hebrews is theirs and theirs alone as long as even one keeps the covenant. Not to mention what my most trusted friend, renowned clairvoyant and spiritual confidante said to me about being of Hebrew ancestry depends not on an unbroken maternal lineage but it being "in the DNA", and thus there are many, both aware and unaware, of such lineage that are "keepers of the covenant", not to mention her telling me that I am of that most ancient and assured lineage being that from the Essene sect itself... so one "never knows", whom might be? but all having been said, gives me good reason to warn all of the current movement to ban circumcision of anyone under the age of 18. I only bring all this other mater to attention so as to advise anyone reading this post that might also read Rabbi Dobin's book, to so be advised as to be judicious in discernment and aware of what might be derived from information gathered from post Babylonian captivity. Other than such, I heartily recommend the Rabbi's book for furthering ones understanding of this ancient and most Divine Science of Astrology.]
Fascinating posts here, JUPITERASC. Thanks for sharing and please do continue on..!
