Are there indications of medicine as a career in my chart?

Here is my placidus chart: https://m.imgur.com/a/2DEV09D

And my whole signs: https://imgur.com/a/0zryGY5

From my reading, placidus indicates more of one's "psychology" while whole signs seems to indicate more objective events in the course of one's life- which is why I posted both!

I'm a medical student. I'm still not sure how I got to this point- there was something pulling me in this direction specifically but I don't know why. I'm also very indecisive about this career, constantly wondering whether this was the right choice for me and whether something else would have been better- but I don't think I would just drop out now because of the effort to get here in the first place.

I'm also curious if there are indications for a particular specialty, if there are placements for a career in medicine in my chart.

Re: Are there indications of medicine as a career in my chart?

Do you have thoughts of what you would do if you didn't pursue medicine?

I read charts psychologically. You actually have a wonderful chart for medicine.

Your chart is a distinct bucket pattern, with the handle moon in Cancer in 2nd. Financial security is needed for your peace of mind. With Saturn in Aquarius in the 10th and Uranus in Cap in the 9th, there's suggestion you'll be most comfortable in a profession with a high social standing or reputational value and being known for your knowledge. Medicine in the west fits all of these bills, you could be a professor perhaps.

Ascendant ruler of Taurus on the 7th cusp in Scorpio, I bet you are a wonderful listener. Great positioning for a counselor of any kind, whether of patients or medical students. It's conjunct Pluto so you should use it to encourage significant transformations or lifestyle changes. Lots of positive activity in the 7th house, including your north node. Jupiter, ruler of north node, Sun, Mars is in the 6th house of service, excellent placements for attention to health and healing. In the 12th from your nn and Sun and in Scorpio you're likely paying attention to things that motivate others, they miss, fundamental patterns. I'll pass on recommending a specialty.

Hi thank you for your post! I am sorry I did not respond sooner- my email somehow did not give me notifications of your very insightful post! Then I remembered (amidst my crazy school schedule) that I made a post here, and wanted to check~

Very interesting about being a professor... part of my interest in medicine came from being able to teach patients more about health.
That is really interesting to know! Your analysis makes sense to me. I do have a question- since my Cancer moon is on the 3rd house cusp technically within 5 orbs, would it be considered a 3rd house moon? Or is it still fully in the second? I don't know if that might change some of the interpretation!

Quite frankly, that's a good question and I've thought about that for so long... If I never got into medical school, I would've still tried to find something straightforward, practical, and provides me financial security... So I might have gone for another healthcare career such as nursing, physician's assistant, maybe even becoming a therapist of some sort. Maybe even Vet. Less likely Dentistry since it is very difficult to get into. Or, (most likely this) following a parent's route, and taken my Biology background to Biopharma industry, while pursuing a PhD. Or even Law, giving the large exam a try.

When I was younger, in middle school and high school, I wanted to be a creative writer or "rockstar" for whatever reason.

The bold is a fascinating synthesis of all those placements! I've been thinking about how to interpret my Jupiter placement...it intrigues me that it is both connected to my Moon and my Midheaven so directly. It almost feels like Aquarius MC wants me to present as objective, logical, and somewhat emotionally detached, while the Scorpio placement wants me to connect with client's on a deeper level to see their unconscious and/or using more of my intuition to understanding things and problem solve their life (?) issues as you discussed.

I am curious, although I understand if it's not very clear from my chart, but I do wonder if there could be a specialty which could be indicated. I currently have Family Medicine, Psychiatry, and Neurology in mind, but am not entirely sure if there is something else which might be better.

Re: Are there indications of medicine as a career in my chart?

The guidance about a planet possibly belonging to a later house if it’s 5 or less from the cusp probably is based on a 30 degree house. The one in question for you is only 20, so I’m inclined to put it in h2 rather than h3. In your chart there’s the interesting fact that regardless of whether your Cancer Moon is placed in h2or h3, it rules h3 because Cancer is on the cusp.

A specialty is a big commitment. As you point out, there’s an Aqua MC and NN ruled by a Scorpionic Jupiter in H6. There’s an obvious emphasis on H7, suggesting you’d be better in any of the three professions you named than, say, radiology or pathology where you don’t talk to people. I don’t see any strong signatures for psychiatry because the field is largely driven by prescribing rather than by counseling and so the science is really pharmaceutical advertising in my opinion. But I kind of get the feeling that the Uranus-Neptune in Cap gen (and it’s a very close conjunction for you) truly believes in pharma, so there’s that.

On the other hand, maybe you would be good at picking up neurological injuries from polypharmacy. Neurology sounds like an Aqua MC.

(Depending on where you are located, the concept of “health of a family system” could be Aqua MC too, suffice it to say that’s not how medicine is mostly practiced or reimbursed today.)
I assume you want to stay in the mainstream system where family medicine appointments tend to run very short and fast. If you’re good at rapid detection and intuitively picking up clues without a chance to get a real history, perhaps you would be good at it for yourself and your patients (Gemini SN shining here, maybe?)

Interesting, did not know that! Does this mean that my pluto and mercury would be 7th house planets given their placements?

By commitment you probably mean the number of years in residency on top of the work/like balance- I agree, some specialties are definitely better than others though!

Interesting. Funny enough, relationships are sometimes a large thorn in my side so sometimes I fantasize about switching to a profession where I have less people-interaction. Likely a nod to the first house south-node of independence as well as that saturn basically squaring my 7th house.

This might be of large interest: So I am not going to a typical route for medicine (MD in my country) but rather a different one- becoming an osteopathic physician. I was entranced by this medical degree because I felt it would help me learn how to approach patients in a more hollistic and patient-centric manner, funny enough, with greater emphasis on a hands-on and conservative approach to treatment. I had a mentor set his practice up in a similar manner, so this might be the Capricorn influence... like him, I wanted to use pharmaceutics as a practical tool when needed rather than always be a "pill pusher," but also push for other routes when possible.

Is this because of the focus on electrophysiology in Neurology, since (I believe) Aquarius is associated with electricity (and nerves)?
From what I also read- Aquarius as a sign is also associated with the circulatory system which also involves electrophysiology...Cardiology was not immediately in my mind, but I did enjoy learning about this portion in my medical studying, and I do question if that might be associated with the Aquarius MC.

Funny enough, I don't really like fast pace environments because it is highly stressful and not very meaningful, although it is possible that I could "handle it" as you mentioned. Where I am- family medicine is basically internal medicine except the physician can technically also see child patients if they want to. There's overall greater continuity of care compared to with specialists since you get to know this person long-term and on a more routine basis. I was thinking about either Internal Medicine or Family medicine for this reason- becoming the primary care physician. I thought it might be due to the influence of the Cancer moon or the 7th house emphasis~

Aquarius, from my understanding, seems to be about sudden "progress" and innovation, so perhaps a family physician for a specific demographic of patients could become an advocate, especially if there is a public health component to the practice- if that is correct? I also was thinking about Neurology or Psychiatry because I feel like there will be so much research in the area of neuroscience and psychology.

I’m typing on mobile which sadly compromises response. However, I was thinking about your chart after the previous post and some of the thoughts are in your response.

Good to know you are in osteopathic school. If you have a more holistic interest in the patient and want to follow people longer term, then family medicine or internal medicine are good choices. It could also be represented by Aqua MC if you recognize yourself as plugged into a network of caregivers, with yourself as the “referral engine;” your interest in public health could complement. Family medicine is probably the best fit for Cancer moon, Gemini SN that I can see out of your current options. A few perceptive well-chosen words can change a life.

Yes I was thinking of EEG w/ the neurology reference, and also the Aqua cell salt is salt. As you said that could also be cardiology and circulation is more traditionally assigned to Aqua. Cardiology field could also have a public health / underserved populations component - you know that is challenging work, any intervention that comes late is more challenging.
Don’t pick psychiatry if you’re in the US.

How do you see your Sagittarian NN?

Re: Are there indications of medicine as a career in my chart?

Sorry, did not finish. In the US I think psychiatry will be not enough systemic, integrated or integrative for you. You have gifts in this area to be certain, and Jupiter in Scorpio 6h dispositing your 7h node is an indication of aptitude. You can work to make this field more “Aquarian” if you really want but this will be a constant struggle and uphill battle. You will get no respite from 7/1 matters.

I know what you mean about wanting a break from dominant house issues. You have some nice opportunities in your chart to give a rounder picture but ultimately there is some kind of fate or karma that presses us into a certain shape.

Re: Are there indications of medicine as a career in my chart?

So I did a lot of thinking about the chart and what it could mean.

I think the Uranus-Saturn connection in the 9th and 10th house was indicative of me going into an osteopathic school. Osteo = "bone," and the Osteopathic Physicians have another technical skill of being able to manipulate bones and muscles in the body to help with many issues, most notably musculoskeletal pains. On top of that, the profession itself is rather old, but still "new agey" at the same time, leading to the Aquarius midheaven. I knew I didn't want to endure a very traditional approach to medicine, but at the same time still have my knowledge rooted in the ancient times. To me, this shows the interaction between Aquarius and Capricorn very nicely.

The thing I am eyeing is that Jupiter-Midheaven square which is in a tight orb. I believe it's a killer in terms of allowing me to rise up in the profession. As Jupiter is in the 6th house of health and routines, I suspect the key is to ignore the Aquarius midheaven, and rather focus on the trine to the Cancer Moon to give me hints.

I struggle a lot with motivating myself continuously during the rigorous education, a large part why I have some of these doubts towards my career path. And then I end up procrastinating, occasionally miss deadlines or study for exams too late- and I wonder if this is due to that Jupiter-MC square. I always feel that "if I just buckle down and stop thinking I have more time than I really do, I would do so much better."

On the other hand, I find myself really motivated to get things done when Cancer related activities are involved- i.e. anything to do with the home, family, children, or small vulnerable things like my pets. I go out of my way to take care of these things on a daily basis. Thus, I am now thinking that a Cancer specialty is the key- so that could mean Pediatrics, OB/GYN, "Family" medicine (or really General Practice with the inclusion of children and newborns), Oncology/Hematology, or Gastroenterology (since Cancer rules the stomach). In General practice, I've noticed that many issues arise due to the obesity epidemic, and tackling this could also be related to the sign of Cancer.

This is where I'm thinking that General Practice or Family medicine makes sense. It includes the children...it also is not fixated on a specialty but rather a wide range of disorders, and a Gemini SN would feel more comfortable in that sort of environment. And get antsy if dealing with the same issues over and over again. The Aquarius midheaven could mean that I'm aiming for a more "humanitarian" approach...meaning I might, over time, want to help tackle some of the systems impeding people's health from a population basis. For example, the obesity epidemic, or other public health issues.

Good to know about Psych, I will cross that off the list. I considered it because of my Scorpio placements, but something about that field gave me the heebie jeebies and I never knew why. I think I would make better connections to patients as their General Physician than as their Shrink.

And specializing in Cards, Neuro, or Ophthalmology (apparently eye diseases is also Aquarian?) is possible too, but the Jupiter Square makes me wonder if I should avoid fields which are too Aquarian and does not have as much of the Cancer energy. I feel like Hematology might not be Aquarian since that's not really the "vascular" system.

This has got me good. I really don't know. Relationships, outside of career matters, has had a strong hold in my life. I go back and forth between wanting to connect with people, including getting married eventually, and wanting to avoid that lifestyle entirely. So I'm not sure if it's regarding me eventually forming a committed relationship with a life partner, or if it's a general discussion about the "relationships" in my life including the career ones... as it does sextile the Midheaven- and the SN trines the MC.

I’m not sure that movement you’re perceiving is Jupiter square midheaven, which can release a tremendous amount of energy even without a Jupiter ruled node. A more likely culprit could be the Cancer moon bucket handle opposite Uranus Neptune in Cap (don’t miss it’s a handle, even if a little off center); Moon could be alternately a little mistrustful of Uranus, even of itself.

The Saturn square to your lineup at 7h cusp (esp poor Venus, already picked by Pluto) could create the same feeling of going against the grain, being frustrated by the arc of events, etc.

You can’t choose a different MC for yourself, or ignore it, but you can change how you express it.
