Modern Astrology For discussions on Modern Astrology only. (Note: Typically, modern astrology is defined as using techniques developed around the late 1800s by Theosophists. Specifically it relies on psychological, evolutionary, karmic, and non-western interpretation approaches and includes Neptune, Uranus and Pluto, and non-Ptolemaic aspects. The focus is more on psychological chart interpretation instead of prediction.)

the Synodic Cycle of Venus

I just learned something new, about Venus returning to its same given position with respect to the sun every 8 years. During those years it describes a pattern likened to a pentagram or 5 petaled flower.

Is this something you've used astrologically? How so?

As best I can determine, it is usually viewed as a lengthier sun-Venus cycle, with a return date helping us to get perspectives on Venus-ruled themes such as love, relationships, valuable possessions, the arts.

Here's some reading material.

And an ephemeris.

Re: the Synodic Cycle of Venus

It's very pretty!

The astronomical article is very well written, with excellent graphs and examples. Its author publishes an astronomical calendar I will bookmark and plan to use when we have a telescope.

The astrol. ephemeris linked might be available for a fee, if the website is still updated, which it may not be. Were you able to figure out which synodic phase your natal Venus is in? Would be fun to experiment with.

Re: the Synodic Cycle of Venus

I didn't get that far, but note from the 2nd linked article that the sun-Venus conjunction this year is on March 26 at 5 degrees Aries. With my moon at 5 degrees Leo opposite Mercury and Venus at 5 and 7 degrees Aquarius, respectively, this looks like a pleasant transit involving a sextile and a trine.
