Get as in-depth as you want. This is just about associating the pieces with likely Signs.

Leo/King
Aquarius/Queen
Rooks/Taurus
Knights/Sagittarius
Bishops/Scorpio
Pawns/Pisces (which, if able to cross the entire board unobtrusively enough, can win back any piece that's already been taken.)
Also, looking at the Charts of great players like Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov.

Taurus is slow but steady and makes a good blocker and fortress. The Queen is quick, and moves in any direction, but often holds still. I kind of like the Leo/Aquarius partnership too. Any difference for King?

Haha you quoted just as i deleted my post, realized what Rook is, we call it Castle.. well when i played chess, yes makes far more sense :D

Bobby Fischer, whom many consider the greatest Chess player ever, had Mars less than 1 degree above his Desc, and Venus on his M.C. in Aries. Mars directly opposing his Ascendant means he was actually seeking victory over himself. He was directly focused on the war-like game, not on his opponent.
