JE TSONGKHAPA AND TWO TYPES OF MEDITATION

In earlier times, there was an argument that said
“....Analytical meditation is not important for ordinary meditators.

It is for scholars or intelligent people.
Ordinary, normal people should just do still meditation....”

Je Tsongkhapa did argue with that point and did not accept it.
He said it was totally wrong.

In his view, the two meditations have to work together to hit the point.
Even ordinary people have to practice analytical meditation
and scholars and intelligent ones have to practice concentrating meditation
the meditation that tries to calm down their minds.
In Buddhism, it is important for you to find the result yourself.
Buddha already taught the whole thing.
No later teacher or guru can find anything new that Buddha didn’t teach.
Even Nagarjuna did not find anything new that Buddha hadn’t taught.
After Nagarjuna, Je Tsongkhapa didn’t find anything new
that Nagarjuna had not found.
They found the same thing, but they each found it in their own way.

Re: Meditation help

Mon Ami, how goes it?

Have you read The Tibetan Yogas Of Dream and Sleep? It's written by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. Very interesting book, which makes a similar connection to the Sidpa Bardo and Dream world that I manged to make. Was quite shocking as I figured that I may be wrong.

Hope all is well!

Our ignorance arises like clouds
and temporarily blocks the light of the sun, our buddha nature
The light of the sun will shine when the clouds are swept away.
This happens when we begin with developing a positive motivation
and, not stinting in our efforts
we practice the quintessence of the oral instructions.
17th Karmapa from the book
"Music In The Sky: The Life, Art, And Teachings Of The 17Th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje"
buddha nature - inherent potential to attain Buddhahood:
"The Buddha nature refers to the potential for attaining Buddhahood
a state of awakening filled with compassion and wisdom."

Re: Meditation help

Didn't know the 17th Karmapa practiced Vajrayana Buddhism. Rarely does the mind focus on meaningless titles, though it is interesting.

After receiving a book which spoke upon the Dragon Yogis of Tibet, the effort was made and now, after this month comes to an end, I will be spending a year at a temple. Once that year is over, the Bodhisattva vow will be solidified and phase two of this journey will commence.

Meditation has given me nothing. But it has rid of every imagined burden the mind has ever conceived. Amazing.

Re: Meditation help

The Lotus sutra. Reading that now and meditating on it's contents. It's interesting to see how each religion in any given area takes the beings worshiped by neighbors and makes them apart of their own.

Like Shiva bowing to Buddha and being an emanation of Avalokiteshvara. Some old artworks (Thangka's) of Chenrezig depict him with a trident, which is Siva's weapon (Shiva, Siva - same thing).

Anyway. The Lotus sutra is a wonderful read.
