Is having surgery during mercury in retrograde bad?

Hi I'm new here. Nice to meet you all :)
I have a back surgery coming up on nov.2nd. I just looked up the chart and saw mercury is in retrograde and the moon is in capricorn. I've cancelled like 4 surgeries, and finally think i have a good neurosurgeon. I've had quite a bit of infections the last 3 weeks. Including having to remove 3 wisdom teeth due to infection last week. Then the day after that i broke my finger and bruised my arm.

Here are the charts (I'm sorry i don't know how to put pics up here and make it easy) hopefully you can help, because i really don't want to cancel and wait longer.

The surgery takes place in palm beach, fl on nov.2nd 2019 at 8:23am

My birth chart is august 6th, 1990 at 10:06pm in new port richey fl

Any advice would be much appreciated from the astrological community. This is my first ever surgery and I'm nervous (since i have cancer in my chart)...hopefully the surgeons chart matches better to that day.

Hi!
Personally, I think too much is made of Mercury retrograde. I've had serious dental work done on Mercury retrograde and I drove 5 hours in an old truck to get to a specialist too. No problems whatsoever.

The Moon could be a concern though if you bleed easily. At the Full Moon, bodily fluids flow with more force. In medical astrology, the recommended times for surgery are at Last Quarter to New Moon. Other than that, you could post your chart to see if anyone has any other comments about the best time for surgery - given your natal chart - or ask a Horary question for the best time. I don't do Horary, but others on here do. They can erect a chart to tell you if your date is auspicious.

Oh, and why do you think you have cancer in your chart? Do you mean the astrological sign Cancer or that you think you have the illness, cancer?

Intelentity,

You need to post the chart(s), not just birth information, if you want a chart interpreted. Follow the instructions here: https://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1171

Also, it's against the rules to post other people's birth information without their informed consent. I deleted your surgeon's birth information for that reason. If you have his/her informed consent to post his/her birth information in a public forum, you need to make that clear--which means you would have to specify how you obtained their permission, let alone the birth information itself, since surgeons typically don't discuss when and where they were born with prospective patients. If you don't, you may not post your surgeon's birth info, but you may post their chart with name and birth details redacted.

And on your astrological question, retrograde planets are a redo. Mercury retrograde at the time of your surgery may simply reflect the fact that you've already scheduled, cancelled, and rescheduled this surgery several times.

Why did you cancel your previously scheduled surgeries? Was it out of concern about astrological factors, or were there more practical reasons?

And you said your currently scheduled date is November 2nd. Is that correct? Most hospitals don't schedule surgeries on weekends. November 2nd will be a Saturday.

Actually, it depends on what kind of surgery it is. Waning moon is best for surgery to get rid of something. Waxing moon is best for surgery to add something. Also, which body part is being operated on is what determines which moon sign to avoid if possible. According to electional astrologer Susan Levitt, you don't want the moon in the sign that rules the body part being operated on. Capricorn rules bones, knees, and teeth. If this is not an operation on your bones, Capricorn moon isn't necessarily a contraindication. We already know it's not dental or knee surgery, which would be the other contraindications. In fact, Levitt says earth sign moons, including Capricorn, are ideal for surgery because of their grounding, focused, and healing influence (provided, of course, that they don't rule the body part in question and that the moon phase fits the type of surgery being done).

Which sign rules the back depends on which part of the back. Upper back is Leo. Lower back is Libra. This time of year, the moon passes through both of those signs when it's waning. It's waxing in Capricorn. (The moon is waxing when it's later in the zodiac than the current sun sign but earlier than the sign opposite the sun, and waning when it's later than the sign opposite the sun but earlier than the sun. With the sun in Scorpio, Capricorn is a waxing moon sign and Leo and Libra are waning moon signs.)

Above all, though, when you should have your surgery depends on how urgently you need it. If this is medically necessary surgery, you can't afford to wait. If it's purely elective surgery, you can be somewhat picky about the dates, but it's impossible to get perfectly ideal astrological conditions, and you're still constrained by which dates the hospital offers, plus any other limiting factors you have. You can't choose just any date.

Hi nice to meet you. Thank you for all the information on posting. I wasn't sure i was doing it right. I'm a tad worried on bleeding and clotting too easily. Weird that you mentioned that. That's all I'm really worried about.

They wanted to do surgery on my neck. I knew my back was worse. This is a medical center and it really is on saturday lol. I thought the same thing.

Yes it's my lower lumbar. It shouldn't be getting fused. But i believe they are decompressing and shaving off excess bone on the nerves. I've been putting it off 3 yrs now, because they were forcing me to get the neck first. This time i have a neurosurgeon and he just wants my back.
He moved the date from oct.26th to nov.2nd. So unless i break another bone or something happens i may have to do it. I don't want to wait 3 more months for a slot to open. Thank you so much for caring enough to give me that information. It means a lot to me. It's nice to meet you as well

Yes it's my lower lumbar. It shouldn't be getting fused. But i believe they are decompressing and shaving off excess bone on the nerves.

So the ideal moon phase would be a waning moon that is not in Libra (lumbar region), not in Capricorn (bone), and not in the sign that rules the nerve(s) in question (if this is the sciatic nerve, it's ruled by Sagittarius; Gemini rules nerves in general, while Aquarius is the ruler of the nervous system as a whole). Difficult to get, and probably impossible. This time of year, the moon is waning in most of those contraindicated signs.

But the good news is that having the "wrong" moon sign or phase does not spell doom. It's just one possible factor in the weather not being perfect. Kind of like scheduling a picnic not knowing what the weather will be like that day, and then it turns out to be very windy. A very windy day is not ideal for a picnic, but it's better than a rainy day, and it might still work if you have a sheltered spot for your picnic, and you carefully pack away the lightweight picnic dishes when they're not weighted down with food.

Looking at transits for that day and time, the moon will be sandwiched in between Saturn and Pluto (also known as besieged, but that's such a scary word that I'd rather not use it without explaining what it means!) I think this might be reflective of what you have going on: a bone problem (Saturn--also rules bones) that needs to be gotten to the root of (Pluto--underworld, literally). Possibly this is a time when something will be discovered that your other doctors have missed.

If your surgeon is very experienced with this kind of operation, that could turn the potentially problematic astrological factors into assets. Maybe he'll do more than a surgeon with less of this particular kind of experience would, resulting in a more intense overall surgical experience and healing process, but more thorough healing in the end. But if he's not, if this is the first or one of the first times he's done this, then it might be a problem. So, do you know how experienced he is, not just as a surgeon, but with this particular kind of surgery? Does he specialize in it?

I looked him up and he seems to have quite a bit of experience with this in military. I don't think he seen the mri of my hemangioma so that could surprise him. I understand what you are saying..it's not great weather but it could be my time. The surgical coordinator called me today to make sure I'm cleared. I want to thank you for helping me learn so much about these aspects. I wanted you to know i tried to upload my pics to diff sites and apps and it wouldn't let me copy the link. Must be my phone. I really wasn't trying to get ppl to look it up. I just didn't know how. You have been so helpful

All,

Clarifying questions about instructions I gave in this thread have sparked a separate discussion. I moved those posts here, so this thread can stay on topic. Please post in that thread if you want to discuss that matter further. Please post in this one to discuss the OP's astrological questions.

OP what is the nature of this illness that requires this surgery to help? It sounds chronic from what you've said.

Yes it is stenosis and herniations/hemangioma pressing on my l4/l5 and s1 nerves. I've had nerve testing as well showing the damage and i have intermittent drop foot/neurogenic urinary issues as well as pain standing, walking, and sitting. I've only been offered full 3 level fusions and never just a decompression. This doctor wants to save me from being fused completely
