Decans?

I first heard about decans while studying the Tarot and I understand them as "signs within signs", with the idea being that instead of the usual 12 signs, when you take the 10° into account ("deca-" means "ten") then there are actually 36. But that's about all I really comprehend. I don't quite grasp the idea of "having a Scorpio-Pisces Decanate (2nd decan) and a Jupiter/Neptune influence" or what that would imply in a person's chart. Can anyone recommend any blogs or books or, if not, offer up an explanation making this subject as simple as possible for a novice astrologer?

Re: Decans?

basically each sign has 30 deg

lets say you were born 15 cancer
you are 2nd decanate

0 t0 10 - cancer - the strongest
10-20 - scorpio .. a triad next water sign clockwise from cancer is scorpio
20-30- Pisces --- the triad after scorpio

Re: Decans?

Decans were originally based upon Egyptian star clusters used for telling time in their ancient star calendar. The ancient Greeks simplified them into 10-degree segments of the signs. The decans are always in the same element of the main sign. For example, in the sign of Libra, the first 10 degrees are the Libra decan, the next 10 degrees are the Aquarian decan, and the last 10 degrees are the Gemini decan because all are air signs, and they go in order starting with the sign's own name.

In horary astrology, the decans are called "faces" and a planet in its own face, as determined by the table of essential dignities, picks up a little strength.

In modern natal astrology, you can look at a planet by decan to get a little more insight into how it operates. If decans interest you, you might also look at dwads (duads) which are divisions of signs into twelve 2.5 degree segments, one for each zodiac sign. These give even more detail into a planet's personality.

For example, suppose someone had the sun in Libra in the Gemini decans. This normally social Libra might partake of some of Gemini's qualities of communication. If the person's sun were in the Virgo dwad, this would reinforce the Mercurial nature, perhaps with an element of perfectionism.

By using decans and dwads, you can get a lot more detail on how the planet operates.

Decans
, what a nice-beautiful subject and very important. Too petty that is not used too often. They play a major role in horary astrology, but also in modern and birthday charts. And they can give us a lot of information.

But Another important element is the Dodecatemoria
(in Indian astrology is called Dwadashamsa). another distinction. That is, the first of the 12 parts of the zodiac is from the same sign and then follows the next.See here:https://www.astro.com/astrowiki/en/Dodecatemoria and also here:

This theory plays a large role (Decans - Dodecatemoria), for the AsC and the MC.
I will write you an example just as I read it:
We have ASC to and in Dodecatemorio in . Then will be activated the artistic elements () or maybe there will be great sensitivity (Pisces-water), and may not be as intensely selfish elements of this sign ().
