Total Solar Eclipse, Seismology and Astrology

I’ve attempted to show the possible correlation between the path of a Total Solar Eclipse (TSE) over seismically sensitive zones and correlate any subsequent seismic activity to the stress shown in the astrological chart cast for the date, time and location of totality. I undertook this endeavor after listening to an interview of John Hogue on C2C Wednesday, August 16, 2017.

CONCLUSION: From the data I was able to gather (which follows below) it appears that seismic events in seismically sensitive areas in the path of the Moon’s shadow during a TSE are relative to the severity of aspects reflected in the astrological chart cast for the date, time and location of the TSE. A marker for seismic activity appears to be retrograde Uranus. The gravitational force of the Sun and the Moon in exact alignment to the Earth exert a significant pull on the Earth’s geological structure which, when compounded by multiple negative aspects in the chart, manifest days, weeks and even years later in areas that lie directly in or near the 100 percentile of the Moon’s shadow.

THE DATA:

A. First let’s look at the TSE for Monday, August 21, 2017. During the Great American Total Solar Eclipse (Saros 145, duration 2m 40s), the Moon’s shadow will pass directly over four seismic sensitive zones - the Cascadia Subduction Zone along the northwest coast, Yellowstone Super Volcano, the New Madrid Seismic Zone and the South Carolina Falls fault line system. (The Map: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2017-august-21 )

THE CHART for the location of totality, Hopkinsville, Kentucky on August 21, 2017 at 1:25 PM is linked below. Most obvious are the three Grand Trines anchored by retrograde Saturn trine retrograde Uranus in 1st and 6th at the base arcing upward to Sun, Moon and Mars at the apex in 9th. Retrograde Uranus is the planet associated with earthquakes, but notice that 4 of its aspects are trines and the remaining 2 are an opposition and a square which form one of 2 T Squares. Retrograde Uranus forms a T Square with Venus as mediator and with Jupiter. Jupiter then mediates a 2nd T Square with Venus and retrograde Pluto. Unfortunately both mediating planets, Jupiter and Venus, form an opposition: Venus to retrograde Pluto, Jupiter to retrograde Uranus. The negative effect of 4th House Retrograde Neptune opposing MC and retrograde Mercury suggests to me that any risk to homeland security (4th House) is miscommunicated (Mercury) and obscured (Neptune) by the media (Neptune trine Pluto, ruler of Ascendant). Retrograde Neptune’s square to retrograde Saturn then gets commuted into energies of the overarching Grand Trine which, with Neptune trine ruler-of-Ascendant Pluto, suggests a perception of “business as usual.” The elements, cardinal earth/Capricorn, place importance on Saturn’s role to maintain structure and exact discipline. This may speak to the securing or security of physical structures like homes, buildings, bridges and dams along the seismically sensitive zones. With retrograde Uranus and retrograde Pluto separated by 11 degrees 12 hours of arc, then only 1 degree 12 hours of arc prevent the formation of a stressful Grand Cross forming with Uranus-square-Venus-square-Jupiter-square-Pluto. It appears there is a lot going on beneath the surface that is not revealed and a lot of positive energy that keeps everything moving forward. The Chart should appear below and in Post #4 below.

B. Now let’s look at history and consider the last great Total Solar Eclipse which occurred August 11, 1999 (also a member of Saros 145, duration 2m 23s). The Moon’s shadow moved over the Atlantic, Made landfall in Europe continued through Eastern Europe and then crossed directly over seismically sensitive areas from Turkey through India and the Sea of Bengal.
(The Map: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/1999-august-11# )

THE CHART for August 11, 1999 at 2:08 PM, Arad, Romania, located near the point of totality, is comprised of almost nothing but squares and oppositions forming 2 Grand Crosses, one with the Sun the other the Moon, and 1 T Square. The most aspected planet, Retrograde Uranus in Aquarius in 3rd, is the planet associated with earthquakes. It forms part of the 2 Grand Crosses that connect the 1st, 3rd, 7thand 9th houses. It opposes Sun and Moon, squares Mars and Saturn in the Grand Cross then squares Jupiter which mediates a T Square formed by retrograde Neptune and Mercury. The following paragraph identifies the most horrendous, devastating seismic events to have occurred on earth since Krakatoa. The Chart should appear below and in Post #4 below.

The path of the Moon’s shadow on August 11, 1999 crossed seismically sensitive areas which subsequently endured violent to extreme earthquakes and took tens of thousands of lives and is attributed to the cause of the devastating Indonesian Tsunami. The TSE made totality in Romania, then crossed over the seismically sensitive North Anatolian Fault Zone in Turkey, bisected Iran crossing directly over Bam, Iran, sliced across India from the Kutch region of Gujarat, India and left earth near the fault lines of the Adaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal.

The following lists very tragic seismic events that occurred along the path of the Total Solar Eclipse of August 11, 1999. Refer to the map above in paragraph B for percentile of shadow. Estimated casualty count came from Wikipedia.

1) Six days after the TSE, on August 17, 1999 the Marmara or Izmit Earthquake in Turkey, a 37-second, violent earthquake, shook the North Anatolian Fault Zone, took an estimated 17,000 lives and injured at least 43,000 others. This area lies within 90% of the Moon’s shadow.

2) Three months after the TSE, Turkey experienced a second violent earthquake, the Düzce Earthquake, on November 12, 1999, again along the North Anatolian Fault a mere 100 miles east of the Marmara or Izmit Earthquake. Approximately 850 were kill, 5,000 injured and 55,000 homeless. This area lies within the 90 percentile.

3) One and half years after the TSE, Bhuj, Kutch region, Gujarat, India was the epicenter of an extremely violent earthquake that leveled towns in India and Pakistan on January 26, 2001 killing as many as 20,000 and injuring approximately 167,000 others. It lies within the 100 percentile of the TSE.

4) Four years and 4 months after the TSE on December 16, 2003, Bam, Iran was leveled with a violent earthquake that took as many as 43,000 lives and injured 30,000 others and displaced possibly 75,000 more. It lies in the 100 percentile.

5) Five years and 4 months after the TSE on December 26, 2004 an earthquake near the Adaman Islands, which lie in about the 25 percentile in the Sea of Bengal, literally shook the planet. Known as the Sumatra-Adaman Earthquake, it registered 9.1-9.3 and was the longest in recorded history (8.3 to 10 minutes), and created the Indonesian Tsunami that claimed 230,000 to 280,000 lives with more missing. The shockwave from this earthquake was felt around the world and caused the entire planet to vibrate one centimeter.

C. Now look at the Total Solar Eclipse of July 22, 2009 (Saros 136, duration 6m 40s). The Moon’s shadow again passed over Gujarat, India in the west then traveled east across the Kingdom of Bhutan, then Guwahati and Dibrugarh, in the state of Assam, India and Itanagar, in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, India then across northern Bangladest, through Myanmar and on out to the Ryukyu Islands off south Japan. (The Map: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2009-july-22# )

THE CHART I erected is for Thimphu, Kingdom of Bhutan, July 22, 2009 at 2:00. Once again retrograde Uranus is the most aspected planet . It forms a T-Square with Saturn and Venus as mediator. It also trines the Sun-Moon-Mercury conjunction in Cancer in the 11th House. The related seismic activities are mild by comparison to the August 11, 1999 horrendous events. The Chart should appear below and in Post #4 below.

The following lists related seismic activity.

1) Two and a half weeks after the TSE, on August 11, 2009, a severe earthquake rumbled again off the coast of the Adaman Islands which lie in less than the 25 percentile. It was heard in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

2) Two months after the TSE, on September 21, 2009, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake that lasted 95 seconds shook Thimphu, Kingdom of Bhutan. It was recognized as the biggest disaster in recent times and was felt in Bangladesh and Tibet and attributed to the death of 11 people in Bhutan, Bangladesh and Assam, India. Aftershocks and a 5.7 magnitude earthquake were heard in Myanmar and in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, India into the next day.

3) Six months after the TSE, on February 26, 2010, a Magnitude 7 earthquake was detected in the ocean along the Ryukyu Trench which lies within the 90 percentile of the TSE. Its impact was minor, and it did not generate a tsunami.

4) One year and 8 months later on March 24, 2011 a violent 6.9 earthquake lasted one minute in eastern Myanmar which lies in the 70 to 80 percentile of the eclipse. It took 151 lives and injured 212.

D. Looking ahead to seven years from now, on April 8, 2024, the next Great American Total Solar Eclipse swoops across the Pacific into Mexico, arches across the US from Texas to Maine and leaves Earth somewhere out in the Atlantic. The Moon’s shadow will again cross directly over the New Madrid Seismic Zone. (Saros 139, Duration 4m 28s). (The Map: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2024-april-8# )

THE CHART I cast is for Carbondale, Illinois, for April 8, 2024 at 12:20 PM. This is the city closest to the New Madrid Seismic Zone where the paths of the two Great American Solar Eclipses intersect. This is a fiery chart with Leo rising, an Aires Sun and elements of cardinal fire/Aires. Otherwise the chart appears to be benign. But is it really? Uranus, the planet associated with earthquakes, is direct and has only one major aspect, a square with the Ascendant. Pluto with three major aspects has the most aspects, a sextile to Venus and a square to Mars and to MC. Only one planet is retrograde, Mercury. The planet formation is a wedge defined by Pluto in the 6th and Uranus in the 10th. This wedge is a narrow 110 degrees. Seven planets are within 41-degrees and include 4 planets in Aires as part of a 5-planet stellium in the 9th House of Pisces. The Wedge formation is very uncommon, but gravitational pull from 10 planets within 110 degrees of arc does raises questions. The Chart should appear below and in Post #4 below.

DISCLAIMER: I’m not a scientist. This effort is the culmination of 3 days of eye straining effort researching beaucoups of stuff online. It would be interesting to bring together a group of seismologists, geologists, astronomers and astrologers to probe deeper into this subject.

This is frustrating . . . Every link I posted for the Charts I created on Astrodienst were converted to a chart for 'No One' on every browser I use except Mozilla FireFox. And I put so much effort into this too!

These are the links to the charts. They open for me on Mozilla Firefox.

You need to save the charts to your computer and upload them either here, or to someplace like imgur and link to there. If you link to astro.com directly, the temp ones expire, and the not-temp ones just redirect people to their own astro.com accounts.

Did the July 22, 2009 over the Ryukyu Islands part of Japan predicted the M9 earthquake (Mar 11, 2011) further north off the coast of Sendai, Honshu? Not sure, just stating Japan caught between 4 tectonic plates has high seismic and volcanic activity - an average of 5 earthquakes (mainly small, under M3) daily.

The Jul 22, 2009 TSE over Iwo Jima island (Japan), site of a historic battle during WW2 (my maternal grandpa, a Marine, was in the battle, but based in on a ship on the beach), this eclipse had the longest totality in the 21st century so far (every 18 years, the moon in apogee/perigee-not sure, can be the longest like 5-7 minutes in greatest duration).
