Is my Mercury combust?

https://www.astrologyweekly.com/foru...7&d=1591076930

My Mercury is in Capricorn which is supposed to be a good placement. But like with everything else in this chart of mine, I get the short end of the stick. My Mercury is conjunct my sun in Capricorn and I thought those were supposed to be good placements.

Re: Is my Mercury combust?

Yes. it's combust.

Quote:
Any planet conjunct the Sun will be combust. The classical breakdown is from 8° to 15° from the Sun is “under the beams,” which is an accidental debility; from 17’ to 8° from the Sun is combust, which is a more serious debility; and less than 17’ of arc is a condition called cazimi (the heart of the Sun), which is an accidental dignity.

Re: Is my Mercury combust?

A question with regard to this, why so many sources give the mercury/sun conjuction a positive spin?

Re: Is my Mercury combust?

Two schools of thought.

Traditionally a planet conjunct the sun loses power because the sun's rays mask the planet's own reflected light.

The exception is with a planet within 17 minutes of the sun. This condition is called "cazimi," or "in the heart of the sun." It is supposed to be extra-strong. A planet 15 degrees from the sun, but not strictly conjunct, is said to be "under the beams," and is weakened slightly.

In modern astrology the sun shows one's sense of self, or identity. A planet conjunct the sun shows what the person identifies with. It's not necessarily positive or negative.

Because Mercury is so close to the sun, never more than 30 degrees away, it conjuncts the sun a lot.
