Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

Tikana, I am en-rapt this evening with the sounds of many works of this mans truly divine talent for composing and playing.
It is the nicest "gift" I have been given in many a Moon, even if it wasn't specifically meant for me.
Thank you again.

May I in turn "gift" freely to another....

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

I've waited years for someone to share this on youtube. I first heard this particular rendition of this song around 1970-71.
I asked around in the late 80's if anyone knew the name of the artist and the song but all I could remember were some of the lyrics, particularly the last line.
No one knew. Then in 1994 or 5 I heard it on the Public listener supported radio station, KVMR FM, Nevada City/Grass Valley, which isn't too far from here. Called and talked to the guest Dj for that afternoon and learned all about

Ramblin' Jack Elliot ...and his original tune.... 912 Greens
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufKIsZqhc4I

It's a piece of poetry like prose put to a style of guitar playing that creates an imagery in the mind. It's a tune very endearing to me. There's other recordings of R.J.E. doing this tune, but, this one is "special", as for the way he stutters on the word "Banana" and also the line that follows... and there's one line that has been the topic of many a discussion and even has been in the curriculum of a few college philosophy courses as it describes a girl...
"that used to be an ex-ballet dancer".

If you think about it, you can't help but begin to wonder....

...just what did He mean by that?

Nice selection here. It's the first time I've ever heard anything by, or heard of, Alela Diane. Splendid. Her voice is like that of Sandy Denny and Edie Brickell blended together. Very, very, nice. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

The oddest synchronicity just occurred while listening to the cut I posted just above. A tune, and old traditional American folk song, that I've been humming and whistling to for days now was offered as suggested listening by youtube.
It's not done in what one would consider in a traditional vein, one would usually hear this sung to a five string banjo or acoustic guitar, but it is the same otherwise as to key, tempo and lyrics.

WTF?
Really now?
They just never really have understood Rock & Roll in Deutschland, have they?
It takes a certain kind of someone, that has a certain kind of something to really Rock & Roll.
Those guys?
They don't have it, I doubt that they'll ever get it and I believe that they must actually hate it.

Re: Playlist of the Week(music)

Two "new" musicians ...to my knowledge, anyways...

This tune by Ryn was cited as a reason to believe that she and her band are every bit as good live as their studio material suggests.

Ryn Weaver - OctaHate (Live at Hollywood Forever)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUIDckuQeNE

...and then, of course, I had to hear the studio cut...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTVZdW8pTEM

...she reminds me a bit of Sheena Easton, musically, as to what Sheena was doing in the 80's, likely to be as different as Night is from Day, personality wise.

...and which lead, in turn, to this...

Sam Smith - "I'm Not The Only One"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCkpzqqog4k

So, it seems that I'm a few months behind as to what currently trending and I might best chalk that up to the demise of the FM radio stations that used to be so popular here in America for most all of the 20th century and the demise of about 60% of my friends from whom I used to get a great deal of news and opinions... what was trending and of worthwhile attention... and not only regarding music.

... although I have to admit to being a lot less informed, than just being unaware of most of what is currently "hip", "rad". "the buzz" or "trendy", nowadays. As I was also getting a lot of news and exposure to what failed , how, when and for likely what reason..

and it could be said as much as to what succeeded, also.
