Hello! I created this thread because of undying curiosity and an opportunity to explore different methods in learning astrology. Also, to help or give aid to those that happen to be lost on how they should go about learning astrology (whichever branch) in general for themselves because I understand that it can be mind boggling and confusing for a beginner. I hope that this thread can teach us to help each other. Now, if any of you exceptionally remarkable astrologers wouldn’t mind sharing your methods then that would actually be great ☺️ great for everyone! I’ll feel blessed with your insights 💕 You are all amazing and wonderful 💕

1. See ifthere are any planets in the house. Note if they are benefics or malefics. Note which is closer to the cusp of the house.

2. See what sign is on the cusp of the house. Note the triplicity
of the sign, the degree of the cusp and the rulers of the sign
(especially the rulers by sign, exaltation, and triplicity).

3. See what planet is the ruler by sign. Note what house it is
in. It will I ink the affairs of the house it is in to the affairs of
the house you are judging. Note the nature of the ruler of the
house. Its nature will tell you how the affairs of the house will
be realized.

If the ruler is in good zodiacal state and in good house (angular/succedent) the matters symbolized by the house will be realized.
If it is in good zodiacal state, but weak by house placement, there will be problems with realizing the things signified by the house.
If it is in bad zodiacal and house placement as well (cadent for example), the matters will not be realized by any means.
But still, you can look to the triplicity ruler or the Almuten, or the exaltation ruler, termin ruler and etc.. (look at 4).

4. Look at the Almuten of the house. Look also to the other 5 dignity rulers. Face is weakest of this and I do not use it. The termin ruler also I use very rarely.

If the ruler by sign cannot realize the
affairs of a house, perhapsthe Almuten or one of the otherrulers can.

5. Examine the Arabic Part associated with matter at hand.

For example, for judging the first house calculate Pars Vitae. For the life's purpose Pars Hyleg. For 2nd house - Pars Substance and Fortune. For 7th - the Part of Marriage and etc..

6. See also the significator of the thing the house is associated
with. You will want to see the natural significator, the acci*dental significator and, once you have learned of them, the specific significator.

7. Position is stronger than rulership.

Aries on 5th house cusp. Jupiter in Aries.
Juptier is having much more important for the issues of the house then the ruler Mars.

8. The planet in detriment can not produce effectively what it promise.

9.The house represents the beginning of a matter, the ruler of the house,
represents the development of the matter, a kind of middle
point, and the final dispositor, i.e. the planet that rules the sign in which
the ruler is placed represents the end of the matter.

10. The planet which is closest to cusp is the most important in the house and dominates the affairs of the house, because of the rule that position is stronger than rulership, unless the ruler of the house is also in the house.

11. Planets can do 3 things. They can produce something,
they can deny something, or they can destroy something once it has been
produced.

SOME TIPS ON DELINEATING
The type of Delineation I'm giving here is a mix of medieval techniques with those of the Hellenistic authors.
Robert Zoller played great role in my traditional astrology education and this is obvious for those who are familiar with his work.
I need to mention that even though Zoller was initially very fond on Arabia authors, his basic delineation techniques are taken from the early reneissance French astrologer Morin. Zoller studied with Zoltan Mason who introduced Morin and his basic natal delineation to Zoller. Zoltan was also one of the first translators of Morin.

Here are some tips for delineating the chart in this manner.

1. The good or bad signified by a house emanates from the ruler of the house.
This is the basic rule. The ruler of the house is giver of the material of the house.

Zoller gives the example of his own chart where he has Combusted Mercury in 11th, ruler of 4th. He comments that this kind of placement brings adversity to ones home and dwellings.

2. Benefit in one area of life can be produced by adversity, or even conflict, in another.

Again Zoller gives example from his own chart.
Jupiter in 9th in Scorpio disposited from Mars in 11th: Wisdom coming from conflicts.

3. The delineation tells you the what. The
predictive techniques tell you the when.

4. The Elemental Quality of the Sign of the Ascendant is showing the type of Primary Motivation of the native.
Fire goes for freedom of action and power.
Air goes for freedom of expression and movement.
The Water signs need emotional security
Earth signs need physical security.

The person with masculine Ascendant (or majority of planets in masculine signs) speaks in active terms: "I did this to that person".
The person with feminine sign on Ascendant or majority planets in feminine signs, speaks in passive terms: "This happened to me".

The Feminine signs seek advice because they need second hand in their decisions, in fact they want someone else to make the decision for them.
Masculine signs seek advice because they have many options so they are not sure which option is better.

Cardinal signs are most active. Cardinal water and earth (Cancer and Capricorn) are working great amount of actions but in circumstances and environment structured already by someone else.
Libra and Aries (Cardinal masculine) are working great in any kind of circumstances.

Fixed signs are centripetal, they need center. They are very successful in Acquisations.
Taurus hoards money.
Leo hoards glory and honor.
Scorpio hoards the hidden things, hidden motivations of other people, seek energy and vitality.
Aquarius hoards Knowledge.

Mutable signs vacillate between the two: cardinal and fixed.

5. Examine the planets which most closely aspects the Ascendant. These planets add to the whole Primary Motivation thing.

Planets aspecting the Ascendant represent powers the native can use in the world.

The aspecting planet's local determination will be added to the Primary
Motivation.
(Venus in 5th will add love for pleasure and entertainment to the native's Primary Motivation).

The aspect between the aspecting planet and the Ascendant tells you how the being of the planet and its local determination are linked.

6. The Ruler of the Ascendant by its house position tells you where (what area of life) the native will seek to realize his/her Primary Motivation.

Look also at all 5 dignity rulers in the place of the ASC. The Almuten and Exalted ruler are lamost as significant as the domicile ruler (sometimes even more).

The Ruler of the Ascendant (as well as the other rulers) by its nature and zodiacal state shows the methods the native will use and the success or failure of the drive.

This is great quote by Zoller:
Quote:
"This little trick is of great practical value. By means of it, we may understand what the native wants. All other wants and desires are negotiable, but not the Primary Motivation. If you interfere with another person's ability to realize their Primary Motivation, they are gone."
Lets assume that a person has Cancer on the Ascendant,
The primary motivation of this person is the Need for Emotional Security.
The ruler/s of the Ascendant and their zodiacal and local state will determine How would this be achieved.

Lets assume Moon on IC in Libra Peregrine.
Jupiter in 6th (but 7th sign!) in Capricorn.
Venus in Sag in 6th - Peregrine.
Mars in Scorpio in 4th (but 5th sign!)
Saturn (term ruler) is in 5th Scorpio Peregrine.

We can see that Moon is strong by accident (being on angle), so we can judge first from there.
The need for Emotional Security this person would seek in the home, in the place of the father. The father would be the means through which this person would try to achieve the Emotional Security.
Jupiter - the exalted ruler is weak by being cadent, Venus too. They can't produce much in giving the emotional security this person seeks.
Jupiter by universal means suggest that the native would seek wisdom, religion (and the person actually did!) but by being cadent and in fall, it can't productively give what it promise.
Mars is in 4/5th and is strong by zodiacal state, but is out of sect malefic.
It would try to win competitions, but also with Saturn in 5th will give great deal of creativity. Mars rules the 10th - creativity and looking for career, would also give some amount of emotional security for this person. But by being square with Sun in 7th it means that it will have opposition from authorities and other people in general.

The primary motivation is great deal of what we unconsciously and often consciously seek for. Once that motivation is broken or someone interrupt it, we seek to fix that in the every possible way we can do that.

SECT IN ASTROLOGY
a detailed overview of the concept of sect in astrology
which is the difference between day and night birth charts.

Sect is a fundamental concept that was used in Hellenistic astrology
but it has only been recovered by contemporary astrologers
over the past THIRTY years through translations of ancient texts.

The purpose of this talk is to give a broad introduction to sect
first by establishing how pervasive the concept is in ancient astrology
and then to demonstrate how it works in practice through chart examples

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XfPLTQuB9M

In a diurnal chart
the Sun is the sect light AKA the leader of the sect
Jupiter and Saturn are planets of the Dirunal Sect.

If Saturn is above the horizon Diurnally - Saturn is happy

BUT
If below the horizon in the diurnal chart

Saturn is still of the diurnal sect
— still of the sect in favour
— but is not going to be as happy
as when Saturn is above horizon in diurnal chart

Introduction to Hellenistic Astrology Part III - Theoretical Considerations

Saturn, Jupiter and Sun rejoice by day, Mars, Venus and Moon rejoice by night, and Mercury rejoices by day and by night, for it belongs to the diurnal sect by day, and to the nocturnal sect by night. Diurnal stars rejoice with diurnal images, nocturnal stars rejoice with nocturnal images.

Cancer Rising, Moon with Cancer, Sun with Leo, Mercury with Virgo, Venus with Libra, Mars with Scorpio, Jupiter with Sagittarius, Saturn with Capricorn, Saturn with Aquarius, Jupiter with Pisces, Mars with Aries, Venus with Taurus, Mercury with Gemini. Examine the standard of the cosmic placements with universals, nativities and initiations.

Domiciles, exaltations, winds, bounds and configurations control universal harmony. Moon with the moistening Crab, Sun with the royal Lion, and the five stars with the order of the seven-zone, male and female, they rule over the Earth.

Saturn is exalted with Libra and depressed with Aries
Jupiter is exalted with Cancer and depressed with Capricorn
Mars is exalted with Capricorn and depressed with Cancer
Sun is exalted with Aries and depressed with Libra
Venus is exalted with Pisces and depressed with Virgo
Mercury is exalted with Virgo and depressed with Pisces
Moon is exalted with Taurus and depressed with Scorpio

Stars with their domiciles, exaltations and bounds are always good, when benefic, they are better, when malefic, they are less bad. Those who have many favorable placements have distinguished nativities, for they approach divinity.

Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces - Venus, Mars, Moon - West Wind
Leo, Sagittarius, Aries - Sun, Jupiter, Saturn - North Wind
Virgo, Capricorn, Taurus - Venus, Moon, Mars - South Wind
Libra, Aquarius, Gemini - Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter - East Wind

Stars control the four divine winds. They become good whenever the houserulers are ascending, or are post-ascending and favorably placed. The first ruler is diurnal, the second is nocturnal, and the third is cooperating. Changeover of the whole trigon occurs with the completion of the rising time and the recurrence years of the predominating houseruler handing over to the other ruler.

All wandering and non-wandering stars are mighty when rising from under the beams of the Sun, but when they are setting, they lose strength. Similarly, swift moving stars are better, while those retreating are worse. Additionally, the morning rising stars are masculine and better, while those evening rising are feminine and worse.

I - Life, Appearance, Siblings - Early
II - Livelihood, Wealth, Expectations - After Early
III - Relatives, Partnership, Weakness - Before End
IV - Parents, Household, Mysticism - End
V - Fortune, Beneficence, Legacy - After End
VI - Injury, Enmity, Servants - Before Later
VII - Affairs, Success, Living Abroad - Later
VIII - Property, Acquisition, Inheritance - After Later
IX - Travel, Education, Inaction - Before Middle
X - Action, Rank, Children - Middle
XI - Friendship, Opportunities, Gifts - After Middle
XII - Suffering, Maleficence, Enemies - Before Early

In nativities, malefics are better when they are post-ascending, for then they do not harm the stars and images that are ascending. They are best when ascending and favorably placed, for then they bring good fortune. Inoperative stars cause reversals and weakness.

In initiations, the ascending images, especially the I and X, the Sun and the Moon will indicate the outcomes. The pre-ascending images indicate the past. The post-ascending images give signs for the future for the corresponding ascension.

One must investigate the dodekatopos thoroughly, for one will quite easily determine the areas in which the nativity is fortunate or unfortunate.

Stars with the assembly are powerful and common, they indicate admixture of qualities.
Stars with the hexagon are moderated and harmonious, they indicate moderate fortune.
Stars with the tetragon are powerful and disharmonious, they indicate good and bad fortune.
Stars with the trigon are effective and harmonious, they indicate good fortune and authority.
Stars with the diameter are powerful and disharmonious, they indicate rivalry and opposition.

Stars that precede are superior to those that follow, thus it is better for benefics to be on the right of malefics, and we say this for all assemblies, configurations and like-principles. In every case it is necessary to examine the assemblies and configurations with degree, for they become stronger the closer they are to their figures. Like-principles of daylight, rising times and houserulers cause harmonious affinity, but it will be very weak if the images are turned away.

It will be necessary to accurately measure the distances between powerful stars, then measure the same or reverse from the Hour-Marker, in order that, whatever relations the stars bear to each other, the Hour-Marker may bear to the Lots, and that they may be as they were Hour-Markers.

The Lot of Fortune - Sun to Moon, reverse by night
The Lot of Daimon - Moon to Sun, reverse by night
The Lot of Accusation - Saturn to Mars, reverse by night
The Lot of Father - Sun to Jupiter, reverse by night
The Lot of Mother - Venus to Moon, reverse by night
The Lot of Siblings - Saturn to Jupiter, reverse by night
The Lot of Affairs - Jupiter to Venus, reverse by night
The Lot of Children - Jupiter to Saturn, reverse by night

And configurations are very strong within three degrees, for then the gods strike each other with their rays. Thus each star sends seven rays to seven images. And Saturn and Mars are very bad with presence within three degrees and with tetragon and diameter rays, while Jupiter and Venus intervene with presence and all rays. The Sun and the Moon, if they are not Predominator, also destroy with presence, tetragon and diameter in the Length of Life.

Hour-Marker, the tetragon and the diameter command great powers. Stars are most powerful by exactly rising, culminating, setting and anti-culminating within the ascending images. Benefics ascending the degrees make distinguished nativities and good initiations, but unfavorably placed malefics cause reversals and ruin.

Investigate the Sun and the Moon and the familiarity of the attendant stars. When both Lights are with ascending masculine images, with the Lightbringer attended, being present or exchanging rays within three degrees with the five stars, the nativities will be royal. And if the guardians are themselves ascending the degrees, the nativities will be world-ruling.

Every kind of honour is divined from the nature of attending stars, for Saturn brings about power based on wealth and amassing of treasure, Jupiter and Venus through favours, gifts, honours and rulership, Mars through governorship, victories and fears of subordinates, and Mercury through intelligence, education and management of affairs.

Benefics with the Ascending Node cause good fortune, malefics indicate misfortune. The images and the stars cause the beginning of matters, the houserulers cause the end of matters. When the Moon is ascending while the domicile ruler is inoperative, it indicates brilliant beginning and bad end, and we say this for both nativities and initiations.

If Jupiter and Venus are favorably placed, their help is increased, if they are unfavorably placed, their help is decreased. Saturn and Mars are always bad, and they are better ascending only when exceptionally placed. They are exceedingly bad for the respective image when ascending without benefic testimony, and when they are rising and culminating with undistinguished nativities, they make destitutes, wicked, disabled, and those who are short-lived.

If there are five inoperative stars at the nativity, but if the Master of the Nativity is ascending to the degree with Fortune and Daimon, with his domicile and bound, one will be a king. If there are five operative stars, but if the Lots are pre-ascending with the malefics, the nativity is judged unviable. Multiply the degrees and fractions of the Hour-Marker, the Seven Stars and the Lots by twelve from the beginning of the images to find the dodekatemoria, the secret places of the stars.

Investigate the preceding New or Full Moon, the phase of the Moon, the placement of the Moon, the solar and lunar eclipses. If the Moon is without the presence or configuration of another star, it is void of course, and nativities and initiations are without advancement. Observe the positions of Sun and Moon at New and Full Moon, and their separations with respect to the ascensions. On this the whole forecast depends. The preceding New or Full Moon or the Moon favorably placed make good nativities and initiations. Moon is moistening with the first quarter, heating with the second quarter, drying with the third quarter, and cooling with the fourth quarter.

At every nativity, it will be necessary to examine the third, the seventh and the fortieth day of the Moon using the second, the fourth and the seventh image from the Moon. If three of the images are operative and beheld by benefics, they make distinguished nativities. If two of the images are inoperative and beheld by malefics, they make undistinguished nativities. If there is admixture of benefic and malefic testimony, they cause moderate fortune.

One must examine the schemata. Stars exalted with the assemblies of domicile rulers cause good nativities and initiations. Mars, Sun and Moon trigon from each other make highly intelligent and very wealthy nativities, those who are terrors to their enemies. Ruler of I with II and ruler of II with I make those who earn wealth without much effort, for the exchanges of good domiciles are favorable. Stars ascending with their domiciles and exaltations indicate fortunate nativities. Stars pre-ascending and post-ascending the Sun and the Moon indicate distinguished nativities.

The gods send signs to all nations, but they are not interpret the same for the different lands, for one they cause hot weather, for another they give cold weather, and for third they give temperate weather. In the same way, the considerations of weather, rising times and daylight become less discernible and causative in the equatorial zones, and naturally reversed for the southern lands.

The effects of the stars are vigorous when ascending from Sun, Moon, Fortune and Daimon, and they are especially powerful, for good or bad, whenever they are ascending with Fortune. When bright non-wandering stars of benefic nature are rising alongside the Hour-Marker, and with the Seven, they make distinguished nativities and good initiations. Intervals of one and three degrees are powerful, of seven and fifteen moderately powerful, and those up to thirty are effective.

Stars are favorably placed when they are with their exaltations, domiciles, bounds and favorable houserulers, when they are operative, especially ascending the degrees or rising and culminating, when they are rejoicing with their sects and images, when rising from the beams and swift, when they are rising alongside the favorable non-wandering stars, when they have the assembly and configuration of Jupiter, and when they have the assembly and configuration of Venus.

Stars are unfavorably placed when they are with their depressions and unfavorable houserulers, when they are inoperative, especially with the VI and the XII, when they are not rejoicing with their sects and images, when setting under the beams and retreating, whenever they are not rising alongside favorable non-wandering stars, when they are ascending from Saturn, and when they are ascending from Mars, both particularly with exchanges of rays and superior placements. Let us now proceed with nativities.

SEVEN TRADITIONAL AND GENERAL PRINCIPLES FOR MOST ELECTIONS

Seven traditional and general principles for most elections.
1. Let the Moon be operative with operative domicile ruler. The operative places are the angles and succedents.
2. Let the I, IV, VII and X be free of Saturn or Mars.
3. Let the Sun be operative, preferably angular.
4. Let Jupiter, Sun, Venus, Mercury and Moon be angular, the more the better.
5. Let the ruler of every action be favorably placed (operative and free of witnessing malefics):
- Saturn for property and some transfer of authority
- Jupiter for governorship and any evident or important matter
- Mars for governorship and military operations
- Venus for celebrations and affairs
- Mercury for eloquence and trade
If the rulers of the action are unfavorably placed and inoperative,
the matter will be unsuccessful,
even with favorably placed benefics rising and culminating.
6. Let the bright non-wandering stars and benefics be rising and culminating to the exact degree,
and let the Lot of Fortune be favorably placed.
7. Avoid the Moon being void of course, the Sun and Moon unfavorably placed,
or the domicile ruler of the Moon being cadent,
having the dodekatemorion of the Moon fall upon Saturn or Mars.
The New Moon is unfavorable concerning evident matters,
but favorable concerning hidden matters,
the Full Moon with malefics causes quarrels and dissension.
Event #1: a launch party. The date has been chosen, and is nonnegotiable,
but the time is to be determined.
This is really a case where the launch would happen with or without a party,
and the results would probably be the same, but
we want a semi-public "here we are" celebration.
Are there astrological factors that should be considered, like
where the angles are, the moon, etc?
The moon will change signs that day, if that's a consideration.

Moon in conjunction with Venus is favorable for celebrations.
Let Jupiter, Sun, Venus and Moon be favorably placed.
Let Venus be rising or culminating,
and let Jupiter be angular without malefic testimony.
The sign of the Moon also has some effect, generally human (for association)
and semi-fertile (for quantity)
signs like Gemini and Libra would be best.
I would recommend sidereal whole signs for this matter.

Event #2: first meeting of an astrological study group.
Because of space availability at the meeting site, the time is predetermined, but
there are several dates to choose from.
At this time of year, that time of day, all potential start dates have Leo rising
and the sun plus several planets in the sixth house.
Depending on the date, though, moon placement varies,
and midheaven sign varies.
(A couple of the potential charts I've tried, I like how they match with my chart,
but I don't know if that's really a consideration.
This isn't all about me.)

It depends on the purpose of the group,
if it is for specifically for study,
rather than association,
here are the points concerning teachings
I - Teacher
IV - Outcome
VII - Student
X - Authority
According to Dorotheus, let Mercury and the Moon be with human images
(Gemini, Virgo, Libra, the first half of Sagittarius, and Aquarius)
and in conjunction or trine with each other, with the Moon being waxing,
and Mercury being eastern.
I would also recommend checking the aforementioned simple principles.
Definitely avoid the sixth house unless you intend irrational events.

Positive Surprises from Learning Hellenistic Astrology

  • The power that lies in simplicity and systematization
  • The gain of greater technical distinctions
  • that allow one to see a person’s concrete life circumstances
  • in different areas
  • more clearly
  • Greater capability of prediction
  • which among other things
  • can put the relationships between personal effort
  • and luck
  • into greater perspective
  • Some techniques working so well
  • it prompts the need to reevaluate philosophical issues

I love podcasts! I haven’t thought of listening to an astrology podcast though. Thank you for sharing :joyful: I really appreciate that.

This is a terrific idea. It would be wonderful if it could be made into a sticky.

I would definately add an ephemeris, like this one

http://www.khaldea.com/ephemcenter.shtml

and under blogs I would add

http://www.sevenstarsastrology.com/
https://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?p=486986#post486986

I figured it would be useful to compile a running list of web resources for traditional astrology. This will be an ongoing project, so feel free to comment with your own submissions and I'll add them to the list!

Every kind of honour

is divined from

the nature of attending stars

for SATURN brings about power

based on wealth and amassing of treasure

The images and the stars cause the beginning of matters
the houserulers cause the end of matters.

SATURN and Mars are always bad
and they are better ascending
only when exceptionally placed.

They are exceedingly bad for the respective image
when ascending without benefic testimony,

and

when they are rising and culminating with undistinguished nativities
they make destitutes, wicked, disabled, and those who are short-lived.

An introduction to the ancient Hellenistic time-lord technique
called annual profections begins by introducing
the concept of time-lord techniques
before proceeding with a detailed treatment
of how to use the basic method of annual profections
in order to make yearly forecasts and predictions
starting from the day of a person's birthday or solar return.
This is the video version of episode 153 of The Astrology Podcast,
presented by Chris Brennan.

The aforementioned is true and scientific, when the points are on the ecliptic and with the same amount of right ascension inbetween at the rising or setting of the planet or star and the Sun, as there are degrees (4 min = 1 deg). We shall be obliged to increase or decrease the distances for risings and settings proportionally to the increase or decrease of right ascension.

When the planets or stars are away from the ecliptic by latitude, we shall project them according to the parallels and the so-called paranatellonta, rather than with ecliptic longitude, and then measure the right ascension between the Sun and the computed point, for this indicates the true rising and setting of the stars. If one is willing to take an additional trouble, he might as well take the exact current magnitude of the star and modify the mean arcus visionis accordingly. For though most powers come from the ecliptic and its division into twelve places, the rays of the planets increase or decrease in power with respect to the rays of the Sun, which naturally move in absolutely all directions unlike the four aspects. Truthfully, the King said ''the whole circle has been entrusted to the Sun's care''.
