I am not sure what you mean? Harmonics are used both in tropical and sidereal astrology.

I am a harmonic astrologer and have been for many years. I use Year and Day Age harmonics extensively in my work and have written about how to use them on my website http://aliceportman.com/category/harmonics/

David Cochrane has written a great deal about harmonics in astrology in his book "Astrology for the 21st Century" John Addey started the present interest in this form of astrology with his book "Harmonics in Astrology" published in the 70's and a number of other excellent astrologers have written books about this subject.

Harmonics are a Western development of a concept almost identical to what are referred to as "varga" (divisional) charts, which have played a major role in Vedic astrological delineation since the most ancient times (times of Jaimini, Parasara, Sage Bhrigu, and other founders of Vedic astrology)...indeed, one really can't consider Vedic astrology without taking the vargas into consideration.

Regarding tropical or sidereal, harmonics (vargas) can be applied regardless of the zodiacal matrix (zodiacal signs or sidereal zodiacal constellations) being followed.

I play with both sidereal and tropical and was curious which system someone with experience like you have thinks I should use.

I would use neither (preferring to see the minor aspects mixed in with the majors, thus revealing configs and stray major/minor aspect interactions, just the way they are positioned in the sky).

Though I have been a student of Vedic astrology for many years, I am above all a Western Tropical astrologer as I have gotten such good results from this system. Therefore I recommend tropical harmonics as they can be so very accurate.

I agree with Krewster that it is best to see the aspects in their natural state in the chart. I have my Solar Fire program set up with the various kinds of aspects in separate sections for example, I can bring up just the quintiles, then just the septiles and so on. Once this aspect flow is clear I then see how these aspects relate to the rest of the chart.

For example, if someone has a T square I see if they have a quintile aspect running off one of the planets, which will tend to give a creative outlet for the tension of that configuration; if they have septile running of one of the planets it will give a seeking for wisdom use of that tension ... and so on.

However, the harmonic chart itself can give a tremendous amount of detail of how that particular harmonic works for the person and this can be most interesting. In addition, the Year Age Harmonic will show how events are set in motion that year and therefore how they will use that harmonic. On my website I mention that when Prince Charles was five the 5th harmonic, described by the quintile patterns in his natal chart, was emphasised. This is the year he started his education through tutors. He showed no aptitude for learning, but did show an early aptitude for art and loved day dreaming, so this gave a propensity to using his quintile patterns in art and imagination. This greatly irritated his father, Prince Phillip, who often chastised him, both in private and in public (shown by Charles' 5th harmonic Sun-Uranus-Descendant conjunct his father's natal Mars).

His 14th harmonic was a further development of the fifth (1+4 = 5). At this time Prince Charles was attending Gordonstoun, a school near Elgin in Eastern Scotland which The Duke of Edinburgh had attended. This was a very rigorous school and Prince Charles hated it, however he found solace in art classes and developed considerable skill, he became particularly adept at pottery.

His strong quintile pattern of Ascendant-Venus-Jupiter and Sun-Descendant-Uranus has enabled him to be very creative; he has developed into a good artist. These two quintile patterns are connected through the decile i.e. half quintile, and show up on his fifth harmonic chart as Venus-Jupiter-Ascendant and Sun-Uranus-Descendant.

Learning how to work with harmonics is a specialised skill within astrology, but well worth the effort as it yields such accurate information.

Here is Prince Charles' 5th harmonic chart so you can follow what I am saying.

I too use the Tropical zodiacal matrix, whether experimenting with Harmonics or the (identical really) Vedic "vargas" (divisional charts).

(PS: the Vedic "harmonics"-vargas-most often delineated in Vedic astrology are the drekkana, which = the 3rd Harmonic, the navamsha, which = the 9th Harmonic, the dwadashama, which = the 12th Harmonic, and the triamsha, which = the 30th Harmonic; probably the navamsha, ie the 9th Harmonic, is the varga most frequently delineated in Vedic astrology today)

Thank you so much everyone! Harmonics have helped me so much with understanding aspects. Plus, I like that my little bit of numerology knowledge gets to go into practice with it.
I have another question. I have read that degrees and houses and angles don't matter here, only the aspects produced. Is that true?
Also, I have read that you can get a look at your conception chart somehow through looking at the ninth, or was it the seventh chart.
Thanks for all of the help. I find that Tropical keeps me less confused, though I do relate to my natal chart in Sidereal.
