Att Bloggers: Add your blog to this BlogRoll...............

I often follow the astrology blogs of some of our on-line members.

So for those members who keep a blog, add it to this running list for members like me who love to follow.......................

:)

I second this. :)

I know there are at least a few members on here that have blogs here and it would be nice to start a running list, as opposed to just happen across them if we join a thread they are on, or from friending them, or having someone show us they have a blog.

Should they just be astrology blogs, or maybe other kinds as well? I think just astrology for now. What do you think 07?

My thinking behind this was a list of astrology blogs kept by members...but for those members who run blogs that don't necessarily belong to the genre of astrology, lets add them too.

Sounds good. :)

Should we have some limits or rules to these personal blogs? I mean, can we link anyone to any kind of blog, or should there be limits there as well? Like, just as an example, the blogs have to fall under the "not harmful to young people" legislation?

Just as an added concern, if the blog was to contain something problematic, such as pornographic, would that be something for concern here? We don't want to limit free speech, but perhaps we can also preserve our integrity as community by defending against these sorts of connections. Pornographic could mean explicit discussion of a sex scene. Maybe I'm wrong here and that's just waaaaay too much control over other's behaviors. Just thinking it out...

The blogs listed would have to fit in with the Forums Ethical Rules listed in FAQ.

Lets keep it simple.

What do you mean by ethical though, I'm just curious.

As per FAQ: http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/faq.php

Ethical rules to observe

Your participation on this forum is allowed and welcomed as long as you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, harmful to young people, hateful, racist, offensive, threatening, defamatory, damaging, or otherwise violative of any laws

But if it's people's personal blogs, how do we legislate that? Again just a question, I'm all for there being a blog list here of people's blogs, I just think that perhaps how we extend this rule to people's things outside of the forum, is a complex issue.

You don't.

However the mods would need to decide on a course of action to take if someone should break these rules. After all, they have the final say on discipline in this forum.

We are all drawn to AC for a reason ... and that is to discuss astrology.

Take away the option to post blogs which have nothing to do with astrology and we're left with what should (hopefully) be a "clean" blog roll.

Right. So I guess it's like, it could be that any blog could be listed, but if it is discovered that a blog contain something problematic according to the FAQs here, that it would be taken off.

I don't know about you 07 but something about this makes me a little uncomfortable. Like, it's almost like personal blogs should be managed under more distinct terms than just the FAQs here. I'm thinking this because we are just one small part of the internet and while we can control what goes on in here, we can't with everything goes on out there in the same way that we do in here. So if personal blogs were allowed to be listed here in some fashion, then they could be any kind so long as they don't violate general laws around what can be on the internet. Here is what I found about that: http://www.efa.org.au/Issues/Censor/cens3.html

The FAQs address what can't be posted in here, from how I understand them to be.

Hmm, so maybe it does just make sense and is much more simple to just have only astrology related blogs listed here. I like that a lot! Very clean, very easy. :)

I guess people could still list outside non-astrological blogs which fall within the basic guidelines of the link I provided in their profiles or signature lines?

07,
I agree with you.Already members can provide links to their blogs.Should the unlikely event arise of a member posting a link to a site that is not in accordance with our rules, the moderators can take whatever action they deem appropriate. It's happened.
I don't know if we need an Inquisition into the rules on this, when it's already covered.

Why would this be seen as an Inquisition? Challenging the system is a good thing, no? Wanting our rules to be enhanced, changed, more about promoting a sense of safety?

Sticking with the old or the norm can sometimes create more of an issue, why be retroactive when we can promote a sense of safety and normalcy (i.e. Calvin Coolidge) that way we promote less administrative involvement over time. No one would even consider posting something problematic, ideally, because they'd feel the heat already radiating from the very body and style of this community itself. The norm would already be in place, having this out in the open allows everyone to be on the same page. In other words, elucidating this clearly in the FAQs themselves can only do more good than harm.
