Hi guys,

I have truly no insights in astrology, more the a quick overview. I find it truly exciting as sometimes it have matched so precise. I wonder how the charts are determined. Is it on empirical gathered due to the constellations or is there determined by something else? How is all this information gathered?

I would love hearing more about it.

This is a difficult question to answer one way or the other because there are two primary systems used by astrologers. Some astrologers use a "sidereal" system, which tracks the actual position of the planets and objects in the sky. Other astrologers use a "tropical" system which is based on the seasons. Whatever the system used, no astrologer bases astrology on the position of the constellations of the signs. Signs in astrology are not based on the constellations in the sky, but instead on dividing up the sky into 12 equal "sections". So an astrologer looking for "Libra" in a chart doesn't care about where the constellation "Libra" is in the sky, but simply is looking to see where the "Libra" section of the sky is.

However, you don't need to know any of this to do astrology. All you need is to create a chart, and then learn the symbol system of the chart. If you are new to astrology you can learn the basics of Western Tropical astrology at the link below this post.

You might want to pick up a copy (it's in paperback) of James Holden's History of Horoscopic Astrology, published by the AFA.

It gives you a really good overview of how it all started up through where things are today, including 'who' and 'how'.

Cheers -
Liv

Also, after reading the above, get Charles Carter's "Essays on the Foundations of Astrology" for additional background information. Once you get some insight into the history and philosophical/methodological underpinnings (of the Western astological outlook) then you can branch out into learning about the interpretative and technical parts of this field.

So how is this sections applied to different dates? I thought it might had to be with the positions of the (median for example) in corelation to the stars deciding which sign you were born in and from there upon empirical experience or that the specific constellations in itself made changes of different angles and positions upon different stars like every individuals unique cosmos.

Sorry for being grammaticly very floating.

Excited to ponder this area.
