Alexa rankings are a form of advertising... Years ago when my content was all on zodiac-x-files.com the site had a Google PR6 and an Alexa score around 59,000, but I took it down for about a year while I did some re-writing which killed the links. I did it because I realized that traffic quality was more important than volume (high volume without conversion is expensive).

Astrology.com is actually higher rank than astrodienst by Google standards, but you can't get complete truth with rankings because that would invite black hat manipulation by SEO's which the search engines guard against. To get the largest traffic volume you have to dumb down the content so that you appeal to the average person who has no background in astrology. Get too technical and you will lose the average person, but the advantage is that you can address some really interesting issues that might be too advanced for those who just want to know what their lucky numbers are for the day...
