Recently I drew up a horary chart that focused on relationships.
Basically the signifiers are Venus and Mars, which are separating from a conjunction.
What I don't understand is... they are both moving in the same direction, Venus moves faster than Mars and so aren't the going to become conjunct again?

The two said planets are not separating, but applying in a conjunction. See below as to why.

Actually, they are going to go conjunct first, and then separate later. The reason for this you have given yourself: "they are both moving in the same direction, Venus moves faster than Mars". So, Venus moving forward, and being the faster of the two, is moving towards Mars, and will first meet/conjunct it, then overtake/separate from it.
