Fake News

Information is now an open battlefield, and fake news can be anywhere a human with an agenda has access to a computer.

Paul Joseph Watson on CNN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxg6Xs3jQek

This new info war is heating up and many people do not know who to trust. My opinion? Trust no one.

On the astrological side, I wonder if this information war we're currently having will escalate by the 2020 grand conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter - In Aquarius.

Lol. I take it you don't like CNN. Does that mean you prefer Fox News?

CNN has done 24/7 russian/collusion 'news' stories---most of them based upon anonymous, unverified sources. They made it all up.

They have ignored many real news stories, and focused ENTIRELY upon this phony narrative of theirs, that Trump committed treason and is about to be impeached.

It was all a big fat LIE. And they just admitted as much.

That should be illegal for them to spend 90% of their air time trying to push a phony narrative in order to gain their own political advantage.

Where should you get your news from then??

The Wallstreet Journal?

I don't formulate opinions on what others should do, so I don't have an answer to your question. But it's clear that you have an opinion on this matter. I merely asked blaze a joking question.

Twenty years ago I may have gotten hot about this, but the sad part is that you will come to realize that some things about politics and the media will never change....it's actually gotten worse. I can't let myself get caught up in that world of anger, deception, and worldly power games -- my spirit can't take it.

(And don't read that as ignorance either. Multiple degrees in this area.)

Hey Look---here is an entire website, created so that people can make their own Magazine covers.

http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/create-customized-magazine-covers/

Magazine Cover Maker by FotoJet
With Magazine Cover Maker, you can put your own picture on covers of such famous magazines as People, Playboy, Time, Fortune, in just one click. The site has templates to choose from and a user-friendly simple interface to work with. Save your ready magazine cover in JPG or PNG, or share directly to social media.

When my daughter had a birthday party we made one for her on cover of TEEN---she and her friends loved it.

Looks like a lot of people must like to order similar magazine covers.

Also, they had a booth at the county fair, where people could get their picture taken and have it put on the magazine cover of their choice. I bet people have those covers put up on their walls too.

So how does making a phony Magazine cover compare to CNN showing phony, manufactured news stories 24/7 to millions of viewers, and advertising it as true ?

Off-topic but Katy, I just spent an hour making myself a fake magazine. :andy:

No wonder Trump had fun with that

I love Paul Joseph Watson. He has millions of subscribers and many are, surprisingly, young Conservatives here and abroad. He's not just a pretty face.

Mainstream media have lost their influence and power which is why they are hysterical. They used to control politicians by threatening to expose their misdeeds or even crimes. Trump doesn't cater to them, like other politicians. They smugly predicted Hillary would win and had supported her openly. They haven't gotten over the fact that Trump won. They can't believe the unwashed masses didn't obey.

Another big problem is the fact that they are corporate media and a corporation's job is to make a profit for their shareholders. That is the motivation to get ratings and not report the news. The policy of the alphabet networks years ago was that news shows didn't have to make a profit so they were free to report. Soap operas were the money makers paying for the news shows. With all the corporate mergers, almost all elite media are owned by six corporations (last time I heard). That is a lot of control. Jeff Zucker's head is on the chopping block because AT&T wants to acquire Time Warner and he is hurting the CNN brand. We shall see if he resigns to 'spend more time with my family.'

I hope the live press briefings are stopped altogether or put on delay because it's just presstitutes showboating for the camera. CNN's Jim Acosta has been throwing tantrums "I paid a lot of money for my fake tan, my Botox, my designer suits, my George Clooney haircut and no one can admire me! Waaaaahhhhh!"

I heard that Trump had said the fake cover was the only way he could get favorable press. People forget that he has been on several Time covers including the last Person of the Year.

He has stacks of many different magazines over decades with his picture on the cover. Nothing novel. I also just found out that he was only one of ten men who ever appeared on the cover of Playboy (fully clothed).

I take it you don't like CNN. Does that mean you prefer Fox News?

I, too, used to drink the mainstream media Kool-Aid about Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Mark Steyn, Faux News until one day I decided to watch and listen. A whole new world opened up! It was nothing like I had been brainwashed into believing. I found out why they all had higher ratings than all mainstream media shows combined, which is why mainstream media attacks them. And it seems I'm not alone as people call into Rush and say, "I was a Democrat and one day I turned on the radio..."

One part of the appeal is these people actually criticize Trump and Conservatives, not just liberals. They know history. They have a sense of humor, too, something the Alt Left do not have which is why they often misunderstand Trump's dry sense of humor.

For those of you who think the NY Times and WashPo are the same as they were decades ago, before they were owned by billionaire bloggers Jeff Bezos and Carlos Slim:

The problem the establishment media has had is finding the evidence that Trump is dangerous. For them, it hasn’t been so much about finding evidence as it has been about sustaining a narrative at any cost. The triumph of ideology over journalistic integrity has wreaked havoc on the media’s credibility with the American public, a credibility they will find difficult to recover.

CNN:
Just a few weeks after Trump transition team official Anthony Scaramucci wrote a piece on CNN calling the Russia controversy an "anti- Trump witch hunt"” he found himself embroiled right in the middle of it. CNN later published a now retracted article tying Scaramucci to a Russian investment fund under a Congressional investigation. The retraction occurred after CNN realized it could not vouch for the claims made based on anonymous sourcing, forcing the three journalists responsible to resign.
The resignations come on the heels of CNN firing hosts Kathy Griffin and Reza Aslan for anti-Trump stunts and tirades of their own, betraying the impartiality of the network.

The recent release of a Project Veritas undercover video showing a CNN producer calling the Russia-Trump probe “mostly bull****,” and admitting that Trump is correct to call the probe a “witch hunt,” sends what’s left of CNN’s credibility into a nosedive.

The Washington Post:
Dec. 30, The Post published a story that claimed “Russian hackers penetrated U.S. electricity grid.” Turns out the story was completely false, after an investigation officials determined the “Russian hacking” was malware found on one laptop triggered by an employee checking his Yahoo email. The malware had no connections to Russia or Russian hackers at all. Days later The Post was forced to issue a new article correcting their story.

That same month, The Post reported on a story sourced from CrowdStrike, a firm hired by the Democratic National Committee to investigate the hack of their email servers. Their findings concluded that there was link “between the group that hacked the DNC and Russia’s military intelligence arm.” By March, CrowdStrike was forced to retract the statements following a report released showing they "misrepresented data.“ The Post has yet to revise or append their original report.

Prior to former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before Congress on June 7, President Trump claimed that Comey told him three times he was not, personally, under investigation. The Post reported that “people familiar with the matter” said that Trump’s claims were “inaccurate.” Comey’s Congressional testimony vindicated the president. The Post has yet to correct the record.

In perhaps the Post’s most desperate bit of “fake news” was the report of a "Russian propaganda campaign” by websites that were critical of American foreign policy deemed not aggressive enough on Russia. On the list of Russian propagandists were sites like Drudge Report, Wikileaks, along with sites on the Left critical of Hillary Clinton.

The Post cited a report by an anonymous group of researchers called “PropOrNot.” PropOrNot’s “research” began to crumble when skeptical media outlets began to question their credibility, leading to many of the organizations PropOrNot listed as “allies” on their website to deny any affiliation to the group. Buzzfeed reporter Sheera Frankel refused to report on the group’s research. The Post kept the article up regardless.

The New York Times:
James Comey’s June testimony before Congress laid to rest dubious reporting in the media that Trump himself was under investigation for colluding with Russia to win the November election. A sitting president cannot be indicted, prosecuted, or tried while in office, he must first be impeached, removed from office and then criminally prosecuted. Never was there an investigation into the president himself, criminal or otherwise.

In January, the Times reported on the FBI’s “counterintelligence” investigation into the members of the Trump transition team. In the Times, the purpose of a counterintelligence investigation is relayed to the reader, as it differs greatly from a criminal investigation. The author explains the lower “legal standard” for opening a counterintelligence investigation involving relationships between American citizens and foreign governments.

After James Comey’s March testimony, confirming the counterintelligence investigation, the Times deceptively reported that “Mr. Comey placed a criminal investigation at the doorstep of the White House,” and that they will “pursue it ‘no matter how long it takes.'” Whether the Times intended to conflate the counterintelligence investigation with a criminal investigation is hard to know, but the headline claiming the FBI is “investigating Trump’s Russia ties” is misleading at best. The New York Times has yet to issue an explanation or correction.

Following the Times’ lead, Slate, The Atlantic, Huffington Post, America Blog, and The Government Executive, ran similar headlines and/or included explicit references, incorrectly, to Donald Trump being under investigation by the FBI.

On Thursday, the Times issued a correction for an article published on June 25 that incorrectly stated all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies agreed that Russia “orchestrated” cyberattacks in an effort to get Trump elected. In the Times correction, they reduce the number from 17 to only 3 intelligence agencies in agreement, “the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency.”

Buzzfeed:
How can anyone forget the now infamous Russian dossier that was released by Buzzfeed on January 10, mentioning the “potentially unverifiable” and graphic “sexual acts” the Russians allege were committed by Donald Trump in an effort to compromise him. The dossier contained “salacious and unverifiable” information of then President-elect Donald Trump, as well as unverifiable claims that the Trump campaign worked with the Russians to hack the DNC and John Podesta’s emails.
Despite many media outlets possessing the dossier long before Buzzfeed’s report – it was never released because it could not be properly verified. Buzzfeed released the dossier anyway.

The hysteria and misinformation surrounding the Trump-Russia probe in the establishment media has at the very least numbed the American public to any new revelations the Russia investigation may recover, and harmed their overall credibility elsewhere moving forward.

Another once esteemed news bureau, the Associated Press, has written fake news:

The Associated Press invented an imaginery meeting between EPA administrator Scott Pruitt and Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris, and then alleged that some kind of impropriety happened as a result. This is exactly the same mistake CNN made a week ago, when it alleged that Anthony Scaramucci—the founder of SkyBridge Capital and an associate and ally of President Donald Trump—held “meetings” with Russian investment fund leaders and was under investigation by the Senate Intelligence Committee and Treasury Department as a result. No such “meetings” took place, the Senate Intelligence Committee was not investigating the matter, and the Treasury Department had already—at the urging of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) to now Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin before Trump’s inauguration—looked into it and determined the matter to be entirely “without merit.”

The AP refused to do anything about its inaccurate reporting for two days, after the original piece was printed Wednesday. Now, Friday evening, the AP is admitting its original piece was wrong by running a new piece that completely undercuts the old one. And, finally, hours later after originally refusing to do it even on Friday evening, the wire service has issued a correction on the old piece.

Gosh, which of the elite media are left? It seems to be a mass suicide.
