Staying true to form, this year's Saturn/Pluto conjunction has resulted in a large scale "hard reset" around the world. The South America/Caribbean region is sleighted to drop by 9% in economic development and unemployment has soared to even greater levels. My country has effectively lost 5 years worth of economic progress, gains that were hard worn now whittled away due to global standstills in key industries. And despite all the technological progress and claims to social advancement, more in the world are going hungry than even a few years ago. https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/13-07-2020-as-more-go-hungry-and-malnutrition-persists-achieving-zero-hunger-by-2030-in-doubt-un-report-warns.

My country doesn't have great welfare programs, so most either fend for themselves or immigrate to economies with more opportunity. The fact that remittance is the 2nd highest contributor to GDP is both telling and sad. There is a national pension fund, but it's small peanuts. Government workers are more fortunate, but it's more or less up to each individual how they secure their retirement, whether they pay into pension funds from private sector financial institutions, rely on their progeny/wider family for support or they work until they drop (which is a fact of life for many).

I think it has more to do with pure pragmatism/necessity. I know the Coronavirus is huge in everyone's consciousness, but if you neglect other aspects of life key to survival you'll end up dead anyway. It's a balancing act. It's like that data analyst alluded to, the casualties of the preventive measures are claiming more lives than the illness that we are trying to contain. After a certain point, caution becomes dangerous and counterproductive.

I actually don't have an opinion on the placement itself, but if the underlying idea is that the 2nd house is house of unmitigated benefit then I disagree. It's one of the "dark" houses of trad fame (12th, 2nd, 6th, 8th), and certain planets located there in theory means destruction/instability for the affairs of the 2nd house.

I've heard from various astrologers/astrology enthusiasts that I have a "blessed" chart. It's a dumb note to my ears.

I'm sure you've heard similar. What's your opinion of Venus in 2nd. Do you agree?

Re: Random Thoughts, strictly Text

I rechecked recently, The Dawr period actually changed this year from Saturn/Virgo to Jupiter/Libra. The Dawr periods are 360 years in length. This truly is a landmark year for the ages m8s.

For those interested in knowing more about the technique, here's the link

Ahhh some of this long-cycle astrology is enough to make a person feel like a pawn. What’s your interpretation of the Dawr period shift?

May very well be (landmark year) Seems it is quite fitting considering all those people in the United States have to deal with politically, and worldwide Covid19 strikes and re-strikes.

Interesting too, I was just reading about the new nominee for Supreme Court Justice who may help trump change the country by going backwards in time and seems to fit well, the new positions mentioned:

Barrett’s Uranus at Libra is opposite her Mars at 21 Aries. Mars is transiting through Aries in the big sky now, ushering in another Mars Return for her. Mars is retrograde thus creating many “hits” and aspects more than one time as the warrior goes back and forth until reaching direct motion on November 13, 2020. A combination of Mars in opposition to Uranus in the Justice sign Libra is the formula for explosive, shocking, destructive, incinerating, disintegrating behavior and in this case, overturning of case law. She says Roe is “stare decisis” [standing law], but that does not mean she and a conservative court majority won’t find numerous ways to make a woman’s reproductive rights virtually null and void.

Her Mars trines Jupiter in Sagittarius.

Barrett’s natal Mars is 28 Sagittarius. It is the final chart dispositor (in the sign of its rulership, and therefore, stands alone as “overlord” of her chart.]. Her lodestar is a philosophical [Jupiter], and in Sagittarius, coupled with her draconian Saturn, she is originalist, literal, and biblical in her approach to law. (Libra) - Law as funneled through the originalist doctrine of the Federalist Society and her idol, Antonin Scalia.

Yes - compared to having Saturn in the 2nd, it can always be worse!...(I have knowledge of Saturn in 2nd and my daughter, Saturn in 8th) ...not good...lots of karmic lessons surrounding assets and values.

Better to have a benefic in the 2nd then a malefic, imo. (were you referencing in the latter reference, Vedic houses when you say "trad fame"? Which tradition?

I see the red lettering of "Gates of Hades" as being given the opportunity in life to choose correctly our values because there will be a focus with planets in this house especially when Pluto is transiting our chart -

note: Thanks for the informative Link - I'll pass it on....

If the events of this year are any indication, any claims to mastery of our fate/destiny as a species should be seriously cast into doubt. It's probably forced many to take a more realistic view of modern medicine, and not just those cranks involved in alternative medicine. We've been shown how much we don't know as a collective, and how much potential for risk/harm those unknown unknowns contain. A humbling experience - befitting of Saturn.

Tough to say on what this changeover in the Dawr brings, anything I could say would just be general and based on contingent events that could have no actual bearing on how the world develops even 50 years from now. And with the upcoming Jupiter/Saturn conjunction placing us definitely in the Air Triplicity, and Uranus ingress into Gemini in 2025, what could be said about current developments may have more to do with these more shorter and focused planetary placements.

The blogger over at sevenstarsastrology also has an article on the Dawr, and the Ages of Air. Also a polemic on the Astrological Ages of Aquarius, but that's not my fight.

I still think that Saturn will be influencial in the Jupiter/Libra period, since Libra is Saturn's exaltation sign. The Air Triplicity is also comprised of Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury so there is still the influence of Mercury, although perhaps not as major. This might suggest some continuity between the two periods, and a great departure of the collective trajectory might not occur. The influence of Jupiter, Venus and the more sanguine air element might mean a more refined usage of the great industrial strides of the last period.

Re: Random Thoughts, strictly Text

@leomoon

I'm referring to western traditional, and what the hellenists say about signs that do not regard the ascendant/1st house - what more modern variants would classify as signs in an inconjunct or semisextile relationship.

Venus appears in the 2nd in my chart with the combination of the tropical zodiac and whole signs. With Placidus, it's now Moon, Uranus and Neptune which paints a more tumultuous and unruly picture. (Venus is conjunct a late Sagittarius asc but is in the 2nd degree of Capricorn). My opinion is that if there is karmic forces in a chart, that it resides in every planet. A good looking Jupiter or Venus in the natal comes with its own challenges, and if it bestows a positive outcome then what that person does with this "ease/power" has its own attendant consequences.

I've encountered an interpretation of Venus in 2nd as attracting gold diggers. And Capricorn is not known for turning a blind eye to status. So stay tuned....

Regarding the new Supreme Court Justice, the timing of this appointee is interesting in light of the Mundane Planetary landscape for the year.

What I also find interesting is the state of the U.S. in the context of it's position in geopolitics. In recent history, America has been classed as the only "great superpower" in the world, and I've even where one Russian political philosopher even referred to the country as a "hyperpower". But in the current year that position is not so certain. Namely, the challenge coming from China. It's controversial, but there are projections that China can overtake the US economy sometime this century, becoming the top economic superpower. U.S./China tensions have ramped up this year with the ongoing trade war, the US pulling support from WHO and other multilateral bodies due to the purported "China Bias" of these institutions, the events surrounding 5G and of course the ongoing attempts to ban TikTok and WeChat in the US.

I think all of these elements gain astrological context when we consider that America is on the cusp of a Pluto Return - Pluto being the modern planet of Power, Domination and "Big Money". America's "stranglehold" of the global landscape seems to be slipping, and some Chinese Officials have explicitly stated that the current US president is weak, and with ambitions of global hegemony, China is going for the jugular. What do you think?

BIG split between Trad and Mod regarding Pluto in particular. Mod has elevated Pluto to powerhouse status, equal to or even greater than that of Saturn and Jupiter. But, for Trads, Pluto is a never-was, never-will-be, a major league indicator.

The Solunars site has effectively done the same thing, but from a Western sidereal angle.

Another major schism is sidereal versus tropical. My analogy is FM/AM radio: Both are available, just depends on which programs one prefers to tune into--which doesn't mean the other broadcast format doesn't exist.

Re: Random Thoughts, strictly Text

With the Saturn/Virgo epoch, the dominant planetary influences run directly counter to the lights, Venus and Jupiter. "Nothing is Sacred" could be an outcome. Religion lost its cache. Rationalism and materialism gained traction. The creation and development of the physical and social sciences seems relevant, and the scientific method is grounded on careful, rigorous verification and falsification of claims - knowledge through the elimination of theories that fail under scrutiny. Perhaps the same underlying axiom of nothing being sacred propelled the industrialists to transform the world according to their own image, with dire consequences to the environment. The world is a theatre where the forces of Capitalism and Socialism duke it out for "ideological victory". These seemed to be the dominating forces over the past few centuries.

As a multifaceted human, no doubt you have other things that would contribute to sensitivity and respect for the sacred. You don't see how an impersonal force that combines the energies of Mercury and Saturn could result in the events of contemporary times?

This culminating period of the tropical Age of Saturnian-ruled Capricorn explains it. AND, the timing doesn't require knowledge of when the Great Flood actually occurred!

I think its likely true, that China will take the lead and the United States will not ever really recover from the past 4 years. Recover insofar as being the "leader of the western world", because we have lost trust in those we promised to look out for and vice versa, (our alliances)

I mean really, I wouldn't trust our country again to not elect another like djt. A con-man who the NY Times just revealed today is in financial straits with over 300 Million dollars in loans coming due. THAT alone puts someone looking for "Top Secret" clearance as not being trustworthy.

Edgar Cayce a 20th century mystic and prophet once said that if the United States did not live up to the motto we put on our monetary units "In God we Trust" and take care of our brothers and sisters who look to us for help, then we can kiss 1st place goodbye and the Chinese will take our place.

Seems I'm still alive to see the beginning of that prediction coming true.

The Chinese are too insular and business-minded to lead the way into the Aquarian Age. They could take over for the very end of this tropical Age of Capricorn though.

No, you’re totally right, id convinced myself by the end of the list of examples I gave - however thanks for the line you lengthened and drew out - which makes a little more sense out of that square in my natal chart - Saturn Virgo feeling like a dull, bureaucratic, disaster that has to be answered constantly because of its management skills - like the bosses at a record label, the story of the goose that laid the golden egg —
