Re: Astrology Software

Oh my! So I found the software thread.

I used, for years, and love, Halloran's AstrolDL. however about 2 years ago I got a mac. I was using my old windoze for astrology but, as I don't use that computer for much else I wanted to buy a program for my mac. I searched and looked at websites and only confused myself with the possibilities.

Right now I'm wavering between Astro Gold, a version of Time Passages, and IPheremis for Mac. Astro Gold is irritating because their prices seem heavily buried. I'm willing to spend...but only within reason. I also don't want to pay for interpretations that I'm not using...(I'm not selling my services) Although I must admit the mouseovers are...interesting. I guess I want to not spend more than $200.

I know I want synastry, not just composites, progressions and transits, I want an easy straightforward UI. It would be nice if it listed aspects as well as providing a grid.

So are there any other mac users? What have you liked? What drove you fruit juice crazy?

Re: Astrology Software

Hi AutumnMoonfire

I am a Mac user as well and have used TimePassages for years which I am very satisified.
It does list the transits as well a a grid. I have the Advanced Edition, but if you want the synastry or solar returns you will need the Complete Edition. I think you will be pleased.
Hope this helps.....

Re: Astrology Software

If you're on iPhone/iPad then you can try Time Nomad app, it's free and packed full with features. The good thing about Time Nomad is that allows you to easily switch between tropical and sidereal Zodiac systems and even see them side by side. I really love to experience the sidereal Zodiac especially observing planets transiting through real signs.

Re: Astrology Software

I've been doing some research for a program with traditional (as in classical, Hellenistic, Renaissance, etc.) features that will work well for horary interpretation ala John Frawley and William Lilly. I've been using John Halloran's software for decades, but John has said he's more interested in moving astrology forward rather than backward, so no traditional module is forthcoming. I do have the free traditional program Morinus, but the interface is dated. I also looked at Delphic Oracle and talked to the creator, but it's not a perfect fit. I found top programs like Solar Fire and Kepler to be far too expensive for this single purpose, so I settled on Janus. I haven't bought it yet but I will soon.

Janus software is inexpensive and does all you require $150.00

Re: Astrology Software

I don't know if this is the right thread to ask this, but I was wondering if anyone here has the KiddieGram report software for Sirius. I'm getting an error and need to edit one of the definition files to fix it, but I don't know what the correction needs to be. The company just wants me to pay $100 to upgrade to the latest version of Sirius (from 1.1 to 3) instead of them answering that simple question. But the programs always worked well together before my computer crash required I re-install them, so I really don't want to pay for an upgrade. If anyone has a copy of the KiddieGram/Sirius file NFH3.DEF, can you let me know what it says?

Keeping my fingers crossed for any help.
Thanks!

I recommend solar fire though it is of the high end.
It is a good software, though.

Smile Astrolog 7.10

It's been over 7 months since anybody's posted to this thread. However, the past 7 months have featured improvements in astrology software, such as new releases of Astrolog (7.00 and 7.10). Astrolog at http://www.astrolog.org/astrolog.htm has been available since 1991, however it's latest versions offer a wide variety of classic and modern features, for example:

Astrolog is free, and has a Mac version (along with Windows and Linux versions). The pre-compiled Mac version of Astrolog is for Intel chips, which modern iMacs have. There's no iPhone mobile version of Astrolog yet, but the Web versions of Astrolog will run in any browser.

Note that the Mac version of Astrolog has a command line interface, which (although powerful and can access every Astrolog chart and setting) isn't the GUI that casual Mac users expect. Still, if you want more information about Mac Astrolog and how to install it, see: http://astronomicon.co/en/download-a...-x11-graphics/

Agree, I have tried many kinds of software but Janus is hands down the best. I also met the creators of this software many, many moons ago & can vouch for their expertise. In fact they were planning & creating this computer astrology software before we all had access to technology, because as great astrologers they already had foreseen it.

I've been using Janus for 20 years now (I have SolarFire and a few others too!) but Janus is my go to and the one I use everyday. It's the only program that allows you to turn the chart which I find incredibly useful. It's at version 5.5 now and there are a few things about it's layout now I don't like but it's still my favourite!

"Turn the chart" means to rotate houses so that the 1st house becomes (for example) the original 3rd house. It's a technique often used in Horary astrology, and I agree quality astrology programs should support it. Astrolog allows you to do this as well, and you can turn the chart in several different ways. For example, in the above animation:
  • Upper left corner: Original chart.
  • Upper right corner: Turning the signs. (Only the signs are rotating, while planets and houses stay the same.) This is done by changing Astrolog's "Zodiac Offset / Ayanamsa" setting. In addition to sidereal astrology, this setting can be used for things like adding 180 degrees to positions of charts in the southern hemisphere, which some have suggested should be done.
  • Lower left corner: Turning the wheel. (The entire wheel is rotating.) This is done by changing Astrolog's "Wheel Chart Rotation" graphics setting. For example, usually the Ascendant is always on the left edge of the wheel, but some might prefer the MC to be on the top edge of the wheel.
  • Lower right corner: Turning the houses. (The house wheel is rotating, however since the 1st house is always on the left edge, it looks like both the signs and planets are rotating instead.) This is the standard Horary method of "turning the chart". To do this, change Astrolog's "Solar Chart Setting" to move (for example) the 3rd house to the location of the 1st house.
