Stolen Photos

What would you do if

you were a member on a forum

and then one day you saw your friend's photo on a post.

What would your reaction be?

What would you do??

Having had no personal experience of this situation, the following comments are simply conjecture on my part

Clearly IF I noticed by chance that a friend posted their photo on an online forum post,
then obviously I would assume they're not concerned regarding privacy/keeping their identity under wraps,
so maybe I would say hi/what a co-incidence/we're both on the same forum
or similar.

why do you ask?

OK I'm going to play the What if game.

What if you said hi/what a co-incidence/we're both on the same forum

and they respond that they are not the person you know, what would you do then?
Would you notify

or maybe not

the person/ your friend who is the owner of the photo?

Cause I did and I feel some - very few - want to give me a spanking for that, they find it "immature" ....

Hey ... I saw a friend's photo on here, I notified my friend, she plans on legal action - the photo is copyrighted - and I'm the one who sort of got attacked for "ruining" the thread ....

Re: Stolen Photos

Jup
here's the actual story since the posts were deleted by Mods.

A site doesn't want to have any trouble concerning copyright laws.

Anyway, she took down the photos

the minute I told her I recognised her.

The whole mess occured because she thought she would
get away with it.

When she panicked and started accusing me

I told her that she could prove that it was her by

1) going down to her police station,

2) court, whatever or

3) even skype to verify/prove that the girl in the photo is really her;

she didn't accept any of that

I wonder why ????

She kept on blabbing - over and over - that she can prove it was her ... and that she would embarrass me

when I told her to prove it,

she called daddy/Mods to come to her rescue and get her out of the mess.

She keeps on saying that she can prove it but doesn't

WHY doesn't she????

WHY DOESN"T SHE PROVE THAT THOSE PHOTOS BELONG TO HER ????

WHY WON"T SHE ACCEPT SKYPING ??

It's all deleted but I do have the email notifications in case the stolen photos are up again ....

Anyway, I got a PM from a member telling me that a year ago, maybe a year and a half ago she had another photo of "herself" on here which was a totally different person than the photos she had this time.

Go figure

I know there are a lot of people like her around but when you catch the thief and then he turns it all around and accuses you,

cause I asked her to leave it alone

since she had taken down the photos but she started accusing me
because obviously

what forum members think of her .... counts.

I have never let people step all over me, not once in my life, especially those that insult my intelligence...

The ones I consider garbage, well, they 're out of my life the minute stupidity starts.

If we were all a little more straightforward and honest,

the world would be a better place.

I have the right to keep on dreaming about this, don't I ??

Re: Stolen Photos

I've spent way too much personal time on this stupidity

I'll let A _ _ _ _ _ ,

the actual owner of the photos deal with this.

as far as I'm concerned,

I would definitely notify the person/my friend who is the owner of the photo,
particularly if I recognized the photo as being one I have previously seen of my friend.
I would wonder what was going on
and do my best to protect my friend if I thought their photo was being used by another person.
I would send my friend a link to the posted photo for them to check.

Online anyone can post a photo of anyone and claim it is a photo of themselves
- particularly since forums are anonymous
and so there's no evidence either way, whether it is
- or alternatively is not -
their photo
Identity theft is all too common online
It's natural to protect your friends
so I would not find that immature
I would not criticize you for highlighting the issue

The owner of the photo needs to take whatever legal measure they can to secure their photo copyright
- perhaps the owner of the photo could contact moderators of this forum and have the situation fully investigated?

That's exactly what I did.

Thank you ...

Doing the right thing nowadays seems to be considered as weird.

I hate injustice in all its forms and I dislike frauds.

I am not heartless

and I hate doing wrong

so I was very careful before posting accusations online.

When all this started, I thought that maybe they just look alike ... BUT how can the exact same photo be on my friend's FB account? It's been on there for months.

By the way,
one can prove his identity,
not by posting more photos but

by showing up in person in their local police station
- this way one can ensure their safety in case they are afraid -

how about skyping via their police station?

That's exactly what is about to happen.

It's no concern of mine,

I did what I had to do and that's just about it.

This concerns me no more.

Re: Stolen Photos

I will do exactly what Chris10 did. It is however, unfortunate and nearly impossible to judge who is at fault. But I will do exactly what you did to protect my friends.

I used to put my own photo as avatar but then I learned too many untrustworthy people everywhere online and you have no idea what they will do with your photo. It is in fact worse than posting you natal chart with full birth data. The practical thing to do is to set up a good level of privacy setting for Facebook if you do post personal photos. Otherwise, public forum, even registered member can easily copy your profile pictures for personal amusement...if you had met enough psycho in person or on the phone, you will know what sick people's imagination can do just by looking at pictures...

Re: Stolen Photos

I received a few PMs asking what this is all about ....

This is how it started:

We have met !!!
Summer 2006 in Madrit!
Remember ...Plaza Santa Ana ...
Me (Christine), Elena, Nick, Sam, David, Jenny.
Helena has told me you two have kept in touch via FB.
I can't wait to tell her we are on the same astro forum !

How's Veronica by the way?

Anyway, it really doesn't matter now. The photos are down.

poyi thank you.

I really feel sorry for embarrassing another human being in
such a way.

I know a lot of people post others' photos not being aware of the consequences if they get caught.

It's plain stupidity, but we all have been stupid in our lives, haven't we?

What I will point out is this, for all concerned:

Legal action will not be taken as long as the photos are not posted again...
