How to self-interpret a basic transit

Based on my studies on astrology, i have understood the following about planets, signs, and houses, however i am unsure whether they apply to transiting objects, or natal? And how they relate to one another (in a practical, useful interpretation) transit v.s natal planets, etc? And how to make sense of a particular transit of some importance to me, for example,

T Pluto opp Moon (in Can, 6th), chart attached

The PLANET is....THE ENERGY

Its SIGN is......its METHOD, STRATEGY, PERSONAL SYLE, THE PROCESS, WAY OF EXPRESSION (of the planetery energy),

Its HOUSE is..... SITUATIONS, EVENTS, AN AREA OF LIFE (where the planetery energy is express)

They do apply to transits and create a complex synastry between the potential of your personality and circumstances and how it is affected by transiting conditions.

Always start with a good understanding of your natal planets. Your Moon will always be opposed by planets in Capricorn in your 12th house. It has happened to you hundreds of times in your life, already, and it is a pattern that you're accustomed to.

Your Moon squares Saturn and the Sun, and trines Venus and your MC. This whole pattern is triggered when your Moon is aspected. Sun, Saturn, MC and Venus in their different signs and houses will also be aspected by Pluto in a predictable sequence, maintaining the influence on the natal aspect pattern . Again ... this has happened hundreds of times with different transits over your lifetime.

You also want to consider the condition of your natal Pluto; conjunct Mercury in Libra in your 10th and sextile your 12th house Neptune, in a yod pattern with Chiron. It sounds like a healing Pluto to me. (are you into psychology by any chance, some kind of medical research?)

Then you consider the sign and house of the transiting planet which, like I said, is typical of your Moon's transits. Also consider the aspects to the transiting planet. it is not by accident that this opposition is coinciding with your Saturn return. T-Pluto has been in t-square with t-Saturn and t-Uranus most of the time it has been opposing your Moon. (You have the distinction of having your Saturn return "enhanced" by a square to Pluto... lucky you.)

Yes, t-Pluto Square your Saturn is not in orb yet, but it is still significant because t-Pluto has been affecting t-Saturn and because of your Saturn's relationship to your Moon.

Then .... you can also track transits by the faster planets (Moon to Mars) to Pluto to look for short term influences and possible triggers of events. You would include their signs and which houses they're in as well.

Synastry..... very complex. With your Mercury, I bet you pick it up.

Thanks for your reply, i am able to pick it up quickly, however I am not involved with medical research or psycology, however i am interested in medical astrology, and its effects psycologically, if that's what you meant

I think the positivie manifestation of the saturn return is all this hard work im doing trying to learn astrology, on my own. However, sometimes i get moody, pessimistic, and snappy, but i think i have that under control, so long as I am task-oriented.

Your suggestion to track Moon-Mars transits is in conflict with other advice I've gathered, since they are such short lasting energies, it's better to focus Mars-Pluto, for transits, otherwise it would just get too messy and complicated keeping on top of all those transits, what do you think?

Moon - Mars would reveal moods, attitudes, events.... which are in themselves short term and fleeting, yet a fundamental part of life. They are most useful in Electional Astrology, predicting when to time a particular action.

I agree, they are way too much trouble to track regularly. Don't totally discount them, though. They are your keys to manifesting your potential, day by day; helping you along, revealing your progress, or showing you where to make adjustments.

I think you've got it right.

I've experienced transits more as things happening in my environment, as well as my mental and emotional weather report. Generally the quick planets don't have a big impact, but an outer pflanet's transit to a personal one can hang around for a few years and generally they require some kind of change or adjustment.

Good books are: Steven Forrest, The Changing Sky; and Robert Hand, Planets in Transit.

Betty, I love your storms/rain comment!

the simply no brainer is to go astro.com

astro.com has a free 'personal portrait' interpretation of a natal chart in the free horoscope section, you simply put the cursor on a planet and it brings a pop up box to explain what it means to have a planet in that house and any other aspects it has to natal planets. plus a six month free transit report in 'short report'
Robert Hand gives a valuable in depth explanation of transits here – only slight objection I have with astro, is they use orbs of upto maybe 10' approaching, exact and departing. So most transits seem very long in effect. I use more realistic orbs of 1' approaching, 1' exact and 1' departing.

Transits
I use--- 1° approaching, 1° exact and 1° departing. If you click on the link listed below for the online ephemeris it will list all planets at any given time. Learning astrology is like learning a new ‘language’ and obviously the more effort you put into something the more your knowledge and understanding will increase. All transits act as ‘background’ influences through a house, until it makes a mathematical aspect to a planet inside or an Angle.

For 'timings' I would look to the retrograde hit as the most important trigger, then look to see what the quicker planets are doing especially mars & mercury --

astro.com has fee six month transit forecast plus when you get into Extended chart selection, look at the three tabs after calculating a chart under ‘method’ default is circular wheels (on left), middle is special charts and in their you get graphic ephemeris 1yr (or 5years) with natal = transits for 1yr and lots more. BUT you first must learn or memorise the 'glyphs' ie: shorthand for recognising what these maps/graphics mean.

For example when you post or reply to a chart the 'smilies' to the right and just under them [more] if you click on there it will bring up a whole loads of 'glyphs' Mercury Uranus conjunction (+or - 8') trine aspect 120' Libra

Now it's more important to focus on transits from Jupiter to Pluto (poss mars as this is the ignition key)and these planets when aspecting something in your natal chart 'set off' the difficult or nice 'aspects - potential - problems' that your chart expresses. By that I mean if a benefic planet like Jupiter hits/touches/transits your venus, mars or uranus these could be experienced very pleasantly. BUT if your natal venus is afflicted, or badly aspected say conj saturn then jupiter will not has such a good effect. It all depends on how the natal planet is 'aspected'

For me I would say external 'events' must be seen by transits, progressions or Solar arcs to Angles ie: Asc/Desc & MC/IC most other times these events are 'internal, psychological matters as in between the ears'

Now astro.com uses a much wider orb, possibly something like 5° or even 10° that’s why when you use the free transit forecast service a transit goes on for months and months. BUT common sense should tell you when the transit is ‘exact’ then it’s at the strongest. Some astrologers swear by 1° approaching produces ‘events’ some say the 1° exact, some say 1° off for triggering events. I personally look to the exact and 1° off for ‘timings’ especially the retrograde hit (backwards hit)

This last website link is rather nice because it gives interpretations of what the ‘Lord’ of the house cusp ruler means ie: T Jupiter sextiles natal sun, so wherever Leo rules in your chart is connected to the area this transit will be affecting –

If you want to reserach secondary progressions - here's a few resources

progressed planets
http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showpost.php?p=266189&postcount=8

progressed planets/charts are more 'internal' changes, evolvements rather than 'events or external' matters. I don't read prog charts as stand alones it's more important to see where these planets are moving in the natal chart

Your natal chart is like a photograph as unique as your fingerprint, BUT the 10planets in the sky have not stayed where they were in your natal chart, they have all moved. Predictive astrology is mostly maths where those 10planets are now and the mathematical aspects they make to your natal charts ie: 180'=opposition, 90'=square, 60'=sextile and 120'=trine.

So your personality, grows, develops, changes, matures as we get older, this is reflected by your sun sign changing from it's natal position to the next sign along, so does your Asc and MC sign change. In fact from sun to mars especially are important, as the outer planets really don't move much, using a 'day for a year' secondary progressions.

What's the difference between Transits and Progressions?
“Transits are the planets currently orbiting in the sky and the relationships they form to each other and additionally, to your chart. Transits happen for everyone. They're important and effect you personally when they contact a planet or point in your chart. Transits represent outside energy, things happening outside yourself. They describe external events and your responses to them. Progressions, however, move very slowly and are a natural progression of your original birth chart. The events and emotions they describe are part of you, deeply ingrained in your psyche, internal, and psychological. And as they form aspects, these inner feelings start to become more important and central to your life”

http://astrolmass.com/progressions.htm

The most important of progressed planets is of course, sun & moon and then upto mars, as the outer planets hardly move by progression. Now like with transits, solar arcs --- it's what these progressed planets are doing NOW by mathematical aspect to your natal planets and Angles that is ultimately important.

Also I would take this opportunity to mention there is a ‘plethora’ of information in every forum top, called 'stickys' which cover, explain in great depth what each forum is all about, plus we have an Education forum for further research..

Thank you for that astrologer 50, i have already looked at most of the links you posted, a few days ago, and some of the information helped a lot. Now, i am ready to practice what I've learned, but i understand perhaps i didn't post the best example, pluto opposite moon, as it is an ongoing transit i believe

I can't find it again, but i once saw a very good post on here about how to read a transit, and then apply it natally, it was arranged something like this

Transit:
planet A (what)
Sign A (how)
House A (where)

Natal:
planet B
Sign B
House B

and the post exaplined how to put it altogether. Do you know where that post is?
