The MC in Gemini is good for investigation and research work, combined with his Virgo nature ( Sun and AC ), gives him the precision to work with details. This combined with his Mercury in Libra, I believe he was a true perfectionist and nothing would ever be good enough for him.
Not only the ruler of his MC and AC is in the 2nd house, but also he has his Moon dignified in Cancer in the 10th. He lived for his work.
Mercury conjuncts Neptune ( chemistry ), sextiles Uranus in the 11th ( science in general and exactly trines Pluto in Aquarius ( sign of technology ), and all of these planets make a benefic aspect to his MC, clearly suggesting an ability for the science area!
