What is the North Star??

Does it have any astrological influence, and if it does, what fixed star is it?

Is it even a fixed star?

The North Star is the star Polaris in the constellation Ursa Minor. It is fixed, always marking north in the northern hemisphere.
All Stars are perceived as "fixed" in the heavens, relatively speaking, based on their great distance from Earth. Earth's orbit around Sun tends to muddy our perception of its fixity. And of course none of the stars or anything else is truly fixed. :)

Because of the extreme latitude of the North Star, it is particularly difficult to assign to a degree of the ecliptic. Astrotheme gives its coordinates as Polaris 28°31' Gemini N66°10'.

IIRC it's considered an unfavorable star, but I wouldn't put too much stock in it. Unless something goes horribly wrong no planet will ever approach it. The stars generally considered significant tend to be much closer to the ecliptic. Also, if you are north of the Equator, Polaris never rises or sets; if south, Polaris is never seen.

I have a Polaris and Betelgeuse moon since they are closely conjunct each other ecliptically speaking. Technically I know Polaris is far out there, but I still claim it anyways. I know some people assign bad qualities to it but heres the good ones :
(As taken from AstrologyKing.com)
In a relevant position in the natal chart it gives spiritual powers to the nearer, who will be highly respected. The Pole Star serves as a guide and indicator. If it is conjunction planets in the angles, the native will have a good sense of discretion and is able to follow his or her instincts. The native clearly recognizes his or her aims, and will pursue and achieve them. [3]

Correct. And even more than the precession of the equinoxes, which is only a perception from earth based on the wobble of its axis, all bodies in the cosmos are moving. Either separating, which is the latest consensus. And if not separating, then moving together.

Would Polaris be a fixed star for Leos or Virgos? What about Libras affected by Polaris? 29' Gemini like 29' Cancer and 29' Leo are the "millionaires degrees".

29' has a powerful esoteric, mystical and spiritual value of any degree, it's the beginning and end of a sign. And 29' Aquarius/0' Pisces is the vernal equinox or equinoctial (for the northern hemisphere) point of the precessional circle. The North star should have to do with Pisces - the last sign of the astrological year and the sign in the zodiac representative of psychic abilities and powers.

After internet research on Polaris (Alpha Ursa Minoris) as a fixed star, it's fixed degree is 29' Gemini, related to the signs Libra and whatdayaknow: Pisces. It may be related to another Mercurian sign, Virgo adjacent to Libra. I noticed 0-1' Gemini is the farthest north of the ecliptic (23' 26" N latitude) and indeed is the closest point to Polaris which is a degree close to the North galactic pole.

Polaris won't be the pole star in a few years. And that means that the ecliptic-equator relationship will really get the sidereal gang in a tizzy. Fixed stars aren't so fixed after all.

Late reply over 20 months (in the year 20-20), Polaris was the pole star in the period of 1950 AD-2000 AD, the so-called age of physics (it could started in 1945 after the first test of the Nuclear bomb in White Sands, New Mexico, USA) and I'm not surprised the Leo/Virgo opposition is scientific and bizarre Aquarius combined with paranormal and extraordinary Pisces, as well we transited from the Piscean age to the Aquarian, esp. the 6 manned lunar landings, 1969-72.

The "North Star" is the star closest to Earth's North celestial pole. That means this star is (roughly) always in the same spot in the sky during the day/night, and always straight up if you're standing on the North Pole.

Presently Polaris has the title of "North Star". Polaris is at 28Gem53 tropical, and +66:06 above the ecliptic. That high latitude means when Polaris conjuncts a planet located near the ecliptic, they're more accurately Sextile (60 degrees apart) than Conjunct (0 degrees apart) when measuring distance on the celestial sphere. Note that the celestial pole is not the ecliptic pole (they're offset from each other about 23 degrees) which is why the ecliptic latitude is only +66, instead of +90 or at the ecliptic pole point where the 12 zodiac signs meet.

The 25765 year cycle of precession slowly moves Earth's celestial pole around in a circle. Indeed, 14000 years ago, brighter star Vega was close to being the North Star instead. Note that currently Polaris is still moving closer to the celestial Pole, and will most accurately be the North Star (less than 0.5 degree away from the pole) in the year 2102. For this reason, some consider 2102 to be an important boundary time and the true start of the Age of Aquarius (especially since that would make the Age of Pisces start 2147 years before, in the years leading up to the birth of Christ).

In addition to the effect of Earth's precession, the stars themselves have proper motion and very slowly drift in different directions. This means "fixed" stars indeed aren't really fixed if you look at them over centuries. Astrology software can display star positions and how they drift over time. For example, the following Astrolog animation shows how the stars will move over the next million years. It's anchored to the plane of the solar system to avoid the wobbling effect of precession. Notice how the Big Dipper will become unrecognizable after "only" 100,000 years:

28' Gemini? Or 3' Gemini in sidereal. The overall societal polarization of the US and state of CA in the current year...it has to do with the gradual shifting of the north celestial pole away from the 1950-2000 AD position directly on Alpha Ursa Minoris. The year 2022 reads to me like this: 2 political parties, Zer0 unity, 2 sides of the same parties, and 2 minority positions of opposing both or most of us: We don't know, care, support and want to discuss this. And Polaris, the astrological degree its in and the US and CA are thought to possess a Geminian personality in mundane or geopolitical astrology. Geography is one of my expertise subjects and I read on the longitude 120' West in CA is both Geminian and Sagittarian going from left to right in the world's longitudes starting in the Greenwich Meridian or the zer0 crossing London, England, the UK designated an Aries or Libra line.

And the celestial equator, Gemini is in the highest north part of the ecliptic in the astronomical night sky. On the world map, the earth's equator or 0' parallel latitude is an Aries and Libra to placed the 30-45' latitudes North in Gemini dominant vs. Gemini secondary in 120' West in CA...in the USA under a Gemini feel. Polaris' standing in astrology as a fixed star was altered from recent shifts in the pre 1850-1900 and again 2000-25 periods. And the 19th and early 20th centuries, Polaris was in the astrological degree of 28' Sag or cusp Capricorn vs. The new millennia degree since the later half of the 20th century. In 1920 and 1980, the North Star was listed either a 28' Virgo or branded a "Libra" essence or in a 180' bipolar opposite contrast: 28' Pisces - end of old, start of new like year, age or era in astrology.

It's in the 28th degree of Gemini!!

28 Gem Sabian symbol degree: "A man declared bankrupt". The former US president Donald Trump was born under the sun (June 14-19 period, his true birthday is Jun 14, 1946) in tropical degree of Polaris opposite the full moon. On June 19 that year I always wonder ... To had a church infant baptism or a communion in 11 years old? The full moon every 19 years and 364 days every 11 years. And he has his first family business inheritance loan 19 years later on the solar 28' Gemini? The North Star is the Trump personal star...and briefly was the US president 2017-21 when the shift towards Gemini degrees began and his birth in 1946 when the star Polaris was then shifting away from his lunar or full moon Sagittarius degrees.

The current astrological degrees of Polaris in the Gemini/Cancer cusp is in a direct straight line to the upper right star Dubhe (Alpha Ursae Majoris) of the "Big Dipper" in the Ursa Major constellation.

Our current "...North Star..." is Polaris

Polaris IS a "...fixed star..." i.e. POLARIS Cynosura

Influences:
According to Ptolemy the bright stars are like Saturn
and in some degree like Venus.
It is said to give indifference and improvidence of spirit
and to lead to many troubles.

"...Of the nature of Saturn and Venus.
It causes much sickness, trouble, loss of fortune, disgrace
and great affliction, and may give legacies and inheritances
attended by much evil...." [Robson, p.185.]

Constellation: Alpha (α) Ursa Minor
Longitude 1900: 27GEM10
Longitude 2000: 28GEM34
Declination 1900: +88.46′
Declination 2000: +89.15′
Right ascension: 02h 31m
Latitude: +66.05′
Spectral class: F8Magnitude: 2.1

Polaris stands almost motionless on the sky
and all the stars of the Northern sky appear to rotate around it.
Therefore, it makes an excellent fixed point
from which to draw measurements for celestial navigation
and for astrometry.
Other stars along this circle were the pole star in the past
and will be again in the future
including Thuban and Vega.

POLARIS has been close to the actual position of the north pole
for over 1000 years.
