Looking at his chart I'm asking how could he be the genius he was...mercury perfectly squared his Saturn and I don't see good aspects...what's your opinion about that?

Retro Mercury was in Aquarius, in the 11th, and was conjunct the midpoint of Uranus/Pluto.

So we have :

Mercury = Uranus/Pluto:

"the constant preoccupation with new things and plans"

"an inventive and resourceful person"

"a restless mind, creative thought patterns"

Then we add Saturn, as Saturn squares the midpoint of Uranus/Pluto and Mercury:

"self will, stubbornness"

" Exposure to extremely great pressure from others"

So he was pressured and motivated to give form to his many ideas

No ascendant, no chart. Besides, Jupiter is configured with both and Mercury is visible, also Saturn and Mercury are to a certain degree harmonious, especially due to the strong aspect of Jupiter.

''Saturn and Mercury are allies and productive of activities/employment. They do, however, bring slanders about religion, lawsuits, and debts, as well as disturbances about written matters and money. On the other hand, these stars make men who are not without resources and not unintelligent, with much experience and awareness, and who are curious, far-seeing scholars, seekers after mystic lore, revering the gods, but with much on their consciences'' - Vettius Valens on the conjunction of Saturn and Mercury, trans. Riley
