How exact does the time of birth have to be?

I don't have his exact time, but he told me his AC. This is a new guy on the horizon and I have never felt this positive about any guy and would love to explore some of the astrology!

How exact will it be? Are there certain aspects of the chart that won't be affected too much by this margin of error?

As exact as possible is best,Other wise the best you can do if you just know the rising sign is to look at all the possible major aspects all the planets can make to this region, which is likely to be quite a few,You also need to remember that the Moon can be within a 2 hour arc of degree positions,13.2 degrees a day,so approximately a bit more than 1 degree in 2 hours or a bit more than 1/2 a degree per hour,Also the house cusps can be within a 30 degree arc of possibilities.

I think the important thing is to be aware of how accurate and reliable the data is. For example if someone says 'between 5 and half past 5' you can draw a chart for 5:15, but you need to be aware that aspects to the angles, and midpoints involving the angles could be out either way. Its good to note whether the sign rising is fast or slow ascension (these reverse as you cross the equator) so that you know what the likely margin of error is. For example in the UK, Pisces and Aries rise in less than an hour an each, and Virgo and Libra take nearly three hours, so some rising signs are more affected by vague birth times than others.

“The heart of an astrological chart according to esoteric astrology are the moon's nodes, or points where the moon intercepts the earth's orbit around the sun. Your nodes diametrically oppose one another. So if your south node is in Capricorn, your north node would be in the opposite sign of Cancer and your soul's path would be moving from masculine, earthy Capricorn energies, into light, feminine Cancer”.

Just noticed in the quote in the last post that you have the ascendant. In that case you could draw a chart with 15 degrees of that sign rising, and then see how long that sign takes to rise at his birth latitude, and then you know what the margin of error is in the time, and from that how accurate the Moon position is.

You've got most of the information then that you would get from an accurate time.

I created three charts: AC at 1, 15 and 29 degrees in Scorpio. Now I am looking at the aspect grid and looking only at the ones that show up in all three. Guess I'll have to ignore the house information for now but this is gold already. First glance: He has the same moon/mercury conjunction as me! No wonder I like his communication style.

Thank you very much!
