There Could Be More Plastic Than Fish in the Ocean by 2050

In three decades, the world's oceans will contain more discarded plastic than fish when measured by weight, researchers say.

The shocking finding was revealed in a newly released Ellen MacArthur Foundation report that investigates the inefficiency of the world's plastic economy.

So you're saying we should just give up on looking for "intelligent life" on our own planet?

In June 2014, the Kluge Center of the Library of (US) Congress held a seminar focusing on Astrobiology with panel member, Steven Dick (1949) an American astronomer, author, and historian of science most noted for his work in the field of Astrobiology:

The Biological Universe: The Twentieth Century Extraterrestrial Life Debate and the Limits of Science (Cambridge University Press, 1996);
The Living Universe: NASA and the Development of Astrobiology (2005).

From his work in Astrobiology, Dick is known for advancing the ideas of Cosmotheology and the ‘post-biological universe’. Cosmotheology holds that theology should be based on what we know about the universe, namely that we are not in a central physical position, and possibly not in a central position biologically….

The idea of a ‘post-biological universe’ emerges from taking seriously cultural evolution as an integral part of cosmic evolution, and application of the ‘Intelligence Principle’. Assuming the “strong artificial intelligence” is possible, then most intelligent life existing beyond the Earth will have evolved to post-biological machine intelligence.

It's good to see progress! However, cleaning the ocean is not so simple. The average ocean depth is 3,7 km (2,3 miles) and...

THERE’S EVEN MORE PLASTIC ON THE OCEAN FLOOR THAN ON ITS SURFACE

No one assumes cleaning the ocean is simple
although perhaps it is

When cleaning an ocean one needs to commence somewhere

The surface is the obvious place
and furthermore
less plastic floating on the surface
means less plastic sinking to the ocean floor

Of course, I agree.

Answering the call: Robots to staff Japanese cell phone store

A Japanese company has so much faith in their humanoid robots that they are going to unleash them on the customers at one of their cell phone stores as sales assistants.

“I think this year will be the beginning of the smartrobot era for corporate (customers),” the CEO said, referring to devices that are connected to the Internet and can use cloud-based artificial intelligence.

"Tis better to light a candle than to curse the darkness."
That's dependent on location
for example
not advisable when in unlighted haystorage facility

for such an eventuality the following is ideal:

Simon Morris has created everything from sneakers to speakers that hover, using magnets.
Ultimate dream to create a floating light source without using batteries
is now, with FLYTE, a reality
http://www.fastcodesign.com/3045318/finally-a-real-floating-lightbulb

Lightbulb illuminates automatically when placed above wood base,
can also be turned on and off by touching base
which is connected to wall by cord, providing energy for the light.
base also charged devices like phones.

Flyte is powered by long-lasting LEDs,
so bulb will never have to be changed
Morris estimates the bulb would last about 50,000 hours
or 12 hours a day for 11 years.

Google’s DeepMind AI beats humans at the massively complex game Go

A new program called Alpha Go has been developed that can beat a professional human player at the game of Go, something no computer has managed to do before.

We’re all familiar with chess-playing computers — Deep Blue famously beat Garry Kasparov 20 years ago. Go, which was created more than 2,500 years ago in China, is considered a more significant challenge for AI because the overwhelming complexity makes it an “intuitive” game.

The number of board configurations is huge — more than the number of atoms in the universe, making it impossible for a computer to simply brute force the search space.

Muammer Yildiz Magnet Motor

Breakthrough or Hoax?

A magnetic motor (or magnet motor) is a device which converts power of or relating to or caused by magnetism (e.g., "magnetic forces") into mechanical force and motion, with no other input. It usually provides rotary mechanical motion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHW6b1aFPfU

http://peswiki.com/index.php/Article:_35+_Reasons_Why_I_Think_Yildiz'_Magnet_Motor_Really_Works

However, there are different opinions:

The most common hoax is a permanent magnet motor that seem to run without batteries, or in same cases have a low voltage feedback system to a battery. Such devices do not have any wireless energy input (not TEM wave nor longitudinal electroscalar wave), and since the magnetic field is a conservative field, it is out of the question that such motors can run without batteries. A few examples, Howard Johnson's magnetic motor (hoax), the Perendev motor (hoax), the Muammer Yildiz motor (hoax), the Lutec motor (hoax) etc ... If the principle of 'free-energy' was a simple as a magnetic field, then why isn't each AC or DC motor a free energy generator?

The British team working on hot fusion is expecting to begin commercial energy production by 2033.

We really don't have that much time. Either we come to senses and start fixing things right now or we're gone as a human race in a decade or two.

JupiterASC, I just saw this last night, what a coincidence. I was interested in the guy who started it. He was born during the Capricorn Neptune/Uranus conjunction.

When asked what he'd say to other young people, he said (paraphrased): "The right thing to do is to solve a problem that means something. There are so many intelligent young people out there investing in projects that don't matter." (I take this to mean stuff like video games)

Sounds like we're doomed then. Fossil fuels still rule, and no serious effort is strong enough to overcome that addiction for several decades. Bummer!

Yes, and what's stopping us? PROFIT and POWER HUNGER

People must understand this simple equation:

PROFIT and POWER HUNGER = DEATH of civilization, not in the long run but in 10-20 years from now

CHANGE = LIFE

Not for the optimistic (unless you're an alien life-form intending to change the Earth to be more like your home planet). I don't really subscribe to the Extraterrestrial conspiracy theories, but the way the Elites are behaving certainly lends them some credibility. "They Live" was a humorously entertaining version.
