All,

Please get back on the OP's question: what is the history of the creation of the sign of Aries? If you don't know, don't post.

Our zodiacal signs are Babylonian in origin. A good book on this history is Gavin White, Babylonian Star Lore. They initially called the constellation Aries "the hired man" because the month of Aries occurred during the spring lambing season, when extra workers were hired to help out. The constellation Aries doesn't look much like a sheep nor was it understood as such. The Babylonians began the switch-over from constellations to signs around 500 BCE.

I do think the glyph for Aries :aries: looks like the wild sheep's face and horns.

I can provide more detailed info if you'd like to explore this further.
