Death

Hi,

I don't know if you're still interested in this question.

Morbidly fixating has its time and place. Some buddhists think it helps us to appreciate the present, but too much fixating is not helpful, I think.

Anyway, I can't access your chart from that link.

Darth, there was a gi-mongous thread on this form some months ago on whether or not one can predict death (whether from a natal or horary chart) and whether it is ethical to do so. Hopefully you can find it. The famous example of the problems is Richard Houck, who published an entire book on the astrology of death prediction, and who was off by a country mile on the manner and time of his own death. Traditional astrologers will tell you of historical examples of pinpoint accuracy, while ignoring the major bloopers by astrologers of the past. The demographic transition and longevity of today's population in the developed world is not on the side of predicting death from a natal chart, because the techniques were developed when the average life expectancy is much lower than it is today.

Hopefully you can find it.

The thread referred to is:

THE MORALITY OF PREDICTING DEATH
http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64628&highlight=morality

Death itself is neither moral nor immoral but simply inevitable

and

PREDICTING Death is simple

i.e.

- everyone who has ever lived has either already died or shall do at some stage

HOWEVER PREDICTING A SPECIFIC TIME of Death requires knowledge, skill, expertise

- often experts are subject to error simply due to for example having been provided with an incorrect time of birth

....therefore proceed with caution

The famous example of the problems is Richard Houck, who published an entire book on the astrology of death prediction, and who was off by a country mile on the manner and time of his own death. Traditional astrologers will tell you of historical examples of pinpoint accuracy, while ignoring the major bloopers by astrologers of the past.
That argument when applied to ALL FORMS of astrological prediction
would mean totally writing off and discarding astrological prediction in its entirety
if ONE astrologer made ONE inaccurate relationship prediction

and/or

another astrologer made ONE inaccurate house relocation prediction....
and so on ad infinitum

Richard Houck was not infallible
i.e. everyone makes mistakes

The demographic transition and longevity of today's population
in the developed world
is not on the side of predicting death from a natal chart,
because the techniques were developed
when the average life expectancy is much lower than it is today
.
Conveniently ignores the so-called 'undeveloped nations'
where average age of death ensures that many do not even survive childhood

by the way
for anyone interested to do the research
the determination of date and time of death IS taught in the following books for example

Sahl
Benjamin Dykes translation
ON QUESTIONS p.86
6.1 'The Sixth Sign or Domicile, with its questions: and first, if an infirm person will be healed or die'

Masha'Allah
Benjamin Dykes translation
Chapter 3
p.448
'On an infirm person whether he would be liberated or die'

Vetttius Valens
p.144
Vettius Valens discusses 'Critical Times' and provides at least eleven example Nativities with their death prediction. There are more 'death prediction' techniques elsewhere in Valens for those interested to read there's the Riley FREE translation from the Ancient Greek original downloadable/printable at
