Myths About Astrology

One of the biggest astrological myths is the notion of sun sign compatibility. Sun sign compatibility is based upon the idea that certain sun signs are compatibility with one another and that others are not. The problem is that we are each individuals, and no one is just one sign. While our sun sign represents our basic sense of identity, it is not the sum total of our being. The positions of all the planets at our moment of birth make us unique individuals, and these placements all contribute to whom we get along with.

The basis for Sun sign compatibility is derived from the elements and quadruplicities. Signs in the same element form trines (favorable astrological aspects) to one another. Signs in the same quadruplicities form squares or oppositions (difficult astrological aspects) to one another.

Welcome to AW,
Your post sounds a little like a mission statement and not sure what you are asking here as you obviously have some basic understanding of how astrology works

You need to understand there is far far more to astrology than just ‘sun signs’ firstly there are 10planets in the sky and 12houses and any one of these 10planets can be in any one of these 12 houses – so there’s 144 possible combinations there –

Fernand(a,o?), absolutely, you are right. I myself do not belive in such nonesense as Sun sign compatibility relationship. Relationships are complex and dynamic events between two or more persons cannot be explained only by in which sign the Sun is placed in the Charts.

In a sinastry essentially only planet to planet and planet to midpoint of the charts must be taken into account together with more mundane aspects of the couple or group, like social, cultural and economic situation, together with extreme age differences, to conclude why a relationship works or not. In a given situation, transits, at least, must be studied too.

If we look closely to parent son relationship we will see that, not so much natal Sun but the Moon is important.

There are specific planets and points in a given chart that make someone loved or hated by one or many, but not the Sun and the sign it is in.

At the beginning of the 1900's Sun sign astrology became newspaper syndicated in the U.S.A. and so very popular among newspaper readers. The day after everybody was asking your Sun sign to see "how compatible we are".
