Saturn in the First House - were you an "early riser"?

I recently found out I have saturn in my first house, then came accross this article that made everything make sense as to what was going on with me...has anyone with their saturn in the first had similar experiences?
How did you deal with the time in your life when saturn is moving downward through the chart?
I'm posting my chart as well if anyone can help tell me if my saturn is well aspected or if it's afflicted, and for any other observations anyone can offer about it.

The article:
"If Saturn is on the ascendant, the first house cusp, or somewhere in that vicinity, this has been called the chart of an “Early Riser.” This suggests that during the first years of this life, Saturn will be in the Formative Sector, very inwardly directed, as it moves through houses one, two, and three. At around 7 or 8 years of age, it will arrive at the fourth-house cusp, which always marks a major turning point, upward in the chart. "

I think it has a lot to do with your chart ruler. I am Mercury ruled and Mercury is happy on either side of the natal chart hemisphere. I can be an early bird OR a night owl. And I'll be in a good mood no matter when I'm awake.

Planets can literally be a fish out of water when in the wrong hemisphere, etc. They can't operate in "optimum settings". Just as a SUN sign works best in a FIRE sign then it stands to reason that a Sun sign in a water sign can be that fish out of water......Floundering around. Some planets are given more or less strength by house placement as well. A SUN sign thrives best in the natal chart of a person born during the DAY. I have a nocturnal chart meaning my sun is out of sect. You DO NOT use whole houses for this determination. You go strictly with Placidius as far as I know to get the proper angles for sect. For joy you use whole houses.

Diurnal planets are more comfortable and powerful when they appear in charts in which the Sun is above the horizon. They include:
Nocturnal planets are more comfortable and powerful when they appear in charts in which the Sun is below the horizon, or at night. They are:
Mercury, a hermaphroditic and very adaptable planet, possesses no inherent sect. Mercury changes its sect orientation depending upon whether it is oriental of the Sun (that is, positioned so that it rises before the Sun rises and sets before the Sun sets), in which case it is diurnal in sect; or occidental (that is, rising after the Sun rises and setting after the Sun sets), in which case it is of nocturnal sect.

you have saturn in 11th not the 1st. for it to be in 1st you'd have to be a scorpio rising... you can try looking up neptune, jupiter, and uranus as your first house planets...

lol, yes, I just found out my mistake...*puts on dunce cap*...so weird though...the progression of life that article describes is so similar to what I've gone through...like, I'm literally "going back to school" at the moment too, lol...

The Joys of the Planets list (above) played a major delineative role in Greco/Roman astrology, but has not been as emphasized over the past 1000 years or so-which I think has been somewhat of a loss to better astrological delineative accuracy. The oiriginal list of Joys is found in the oldest astrological book still extant-"The Astronomica" by Manilius (14 AD)-the only difference from the Joys list above, is that Manilius placed the Joy of Saturn not in the 12th house, but rather in the 4th. Placement of the Joy of Saturn in the 12th came about soon after Manilius time (Valens, for instance, placed its Joy in the 12th), but I've found that counting Saturn's Joy as both the 12th house and 4th house, fits things quite well.

(PS: relative to the specific subject of this thread, the OP has the same May 10th birthday as I-mine, of course, is year before-and I have Saturn in my 1st house near the ascending degree! Within the context of the article posted by the OP-social rising and leadership-I was not an "early riser"; however, I did develop a lot of positive Saturnian qualities very early, and was much "older" for my age; in this sense, I definitely was an "early riser")

I have Saturn in the First, in Virgo. Everything the first post said does very much sound like what Ive experienced. I dont think the idea has anything to do with if you get up early or not, I think "early riser" was just a term of speach the OP used. (I behaved nocturnally for about 7 years of my life hehe) Anyhow, when I was a kid I was VERY inward focused. whole world in my head, not just daydreaming though. Analyzing, contemplating, disecting the world. Even as a child I had the "old soul" type personality. I understood things and contemplated things I know other kids my age didnt. I now realize, even my parents couldnt understand the type of things I thought about then, or now. As a teenager I was the center of social attention, as the post says. In junior high I had the kind of "known circle" most people have in high school. I wont put all the details of my life. But also as it says, now Ive just had my Saturn Return, I am very much so turning back inward to myself and thinking again about who I am, disecting the world again but with a lense of what Ive experienced so far. In a way, I do feel as a child again only in the sense of how Im looking at the world right now. I feel almost like Im at the start again of trying to understand it. Only, I wish I could recapture the childlike hope and optimism in what the world may be. Another point the original post made is also true about me now, I am at this point interested in furthering education and have been considering business opertunities.
My biggest argument with Saturn Rising is how heavy it is. It doesnt help that combined with Saturn rising in Virgo I have a Capricorn sun conjunct mars and the whole thing REALLY seems to encumber me. In some things, like cleaning and physical work, I move slowly and feel like Im walking through water. I have been thinking that the only thing I can use to combat this is probably my Aries moon. Passion in emotion gives me action and energy and movement. And it seems to be true. Im not "moving through water" when I dance, or go on a hike.....anyone else have this feeling with saturn?

I have read that it's common for graveyard shift people to have their natal sun in their 12th house.

Dr. Farr, are you Libra or Scorpio rising? It seems we share having an Aries moon and Venus in Cancer. Saturn has passed its square to your venus and is heading toward mine.

Because this describes me and my energy-level! I have had it this way off and on for some years. I don't have saturn in 1st house but I have Saturn conjunct Mars, and when I thought about it, I think it is wurse when Saturn restricts Mars, by fear, or burdens of any kind. Like the conjunctions shifts in power... and when saturn is strongest, my energy-level feels like that!

-Virgo rising, but the ascendant is pretty close to beginning of Libra
-Moon is in Pisces, but pretty close to the end of the sign, near Aries
-Part of Fortune in Cancer; Part of Spirit, in Scorpio...

You do NOT have Saturn in 1st but 12th house

Your Saturn IS afflicted by aspects. Remember planets are modified by sign, where they express are houses and how the express are *aspects*

Saturn in the 1st house
· Gives the willpower to finish off jobs. You may take life and yourself seriously, but with dignity. Good sense of justice and will be able to lead others and make plans for them.
· You will seldom speak or act without a definite purpose.
· You make a loyal friend. Always want value for money.
· Never get fat or drunk because of pride.
· Don't like throwing things away. May well be a horder
· If Saturn is conjunct the Ascendant the birth could have been difficult one: the soul was reluctant to come in. This position gives early maturity: the person is born "old" and gets younger in attitude as he grows older.
· Shy and introverted. Makes an early start in life.
· Needs to cultivate self confidence and a sense of their own worth.
· Ability to work hard and through determination, persistence and self-control can achieve success in life.
· Early life was probably austere and disciplined and not apt to have a feeling of being loved in the early part of life.
· There can be great deal of selfishness and self-centredness if Saturn is afflicted.
· Instinctively conservative and sensitive to the restrictions of authority and their environment.
· Some meet failure at every turn, while others achieve success by sheer hard work and dedication. To succeed they need to develop a sense of inner authority and self‑discipline.

You have calculated your chart using the default on astro.com of placidus and I use Equal House system and am a modern astrologer. Lots of people that come into Astrology get their free charts calculated at www.astro.com and the default ‘house system’ used is Placidus and think that’s just the norm and all that there is……..BUT that is just the tip of the iceberg. You can change the default on astro.com in Extended Chart selection to Equal house and a few more.

Throughout the forums but mainly in natal astrology there are two main branches Placidus (unequal size houses) v Equal House (whereby each house is same size) but lots more……. For more information on these go here.

It's only with study and research will you be able to assess where your planets are deposited and in which houses... thus see which 'glove fits'

So, Saturn and mars would be in 12th house, both retrograde, suggesting father was ineffectual or missing in early childhood giving role model or structure. mars retro suggests in inability to act or poss have tantrums and poss sent to your room, therefore learning not to exert your actions.

sun would be 6th, pluto 11th and Jupiter in 2nd house, mercury venus in 5th. So lots of your planets do move house which will alter your whole interpretations :innocent:

You have a see saw chart shape and no planets in air.
