This young woman has the same birthday as my own daughter, to whom I referred earlier, and so is also 16 days older than Holmes.

That Mars-Pluto conjunction, if near the DC, can attract violence, though I doubt if we'll ever know this woman's birth time.

From observing the event chart, the incident occurred on Jupiter day in the hour of Venus. Typically, I have always found many shooting incidents (e.g. the Columbine shootings in 1999) to occur under Mars and sometimes Moon dominated time intervals such as Tuesdays, Mondays or Mars or Moon hours as Mars is associated with firearms and Moon is associated with the emotions, but this happens to be an exception.

In Holmes' chart, there is a partile Venus square Jupiter. They are in Mixed Rejection (Venus in Jupiter's fall, and Jupiter in Venus' detriment). The only Solar Arc he currently has is Saturn=Venus.

His secondary progressed Moon is currently in Leo. In the secondary progressions, he is currently having progressed Venus sextile Jupiter, and he may also be currently having progressed Moon trine Jupiter, progressed Moon trine Sun, and progressed Moon opposite progressed Venus.

According to Jyotish, Venus and Jupiter can be malefic for people born with certain ascendants.

I pulled up Holmes' Jyotish chart in Jagannatha Hora, and Venus gets 0-2 bindus [benefic points] (depending on what his Moon and ascendant are) in the sign it's been transiting for the last several months, which is considered bad. If he was born in the morning, his Moon would be in sidereal Leo, and both the transit of Venus and Jupiter are currently unfavorable with respect to that Moon sign. If his Moon is in sidereal Leo, then Venus would only have 1 bindu at the most in current transit.

Additionally, with natal Moon in sidereal Leo, the Moon and Sun at the time of the event would have been transiting the 12th house from his natal Moon, which is not favorable.

Additionally, in the event chart, there is a T-Square involving Mars, Uranus, & Pluto and the fixed star Sharatan, nature of Mars & Saturn, rising (as Dr. Farr mentioned). The T-Square was aspecting Holmes' natal Neptune. Neptune does not form major aspects to any of his personal planets except for a loose sextile to Mars. Retrograde Mercury at the time of the event was also square his Pluto as was the Moon.

Holmes' Mars/Pluto conjunction and Neptune sit isolated. They are not integrated with the rest of the planets in his chart.

Using astrotheme.com i made a chart for him with time 12:23Am. It would give him 0'05 Libra ASC (sidereal Virgo yes) Here is the description of his ASC

i would somewhat agree. unaspected mars/pluto conjunction functions archetypally as opposed to personally, and could be easily possessed by someone/something that has the skill and knowledge to do so, with holmes thereby becoming its physical purpotrator. not to get all conspiracy theory, but there are a lot of questions to be asked here to determine whether or not this was in fact a psy-ops mission. with all thats going on in the states right now about gun control, it seems like too eerie of a coincidence that he shot up a bunch of people and just gave the people who would have the american public disarmed a huge piece of lumber for their fire.

until more info about his past and personal stories from peers and family come out, how are we to know whether or not he even let that mars/pluto surface at all, or maybe completely disallowed that part of himself from ever existing? if that was the case, its not that far of a stretch to wonder whether he got involved with the wrong entity/entities through his studies, went through the mk ultra/cia brainwash machine, and re-emerged a psycho killer, that mars/pluto now firmly under the control of someone other than himself.

He apparently started amassing his weaponry in May - which coincides with mars transitioning to 29 scorp. Its interesting as when you think of a child, they are not autonomous. there is always a parent around supervising, as well as the obvious similarity to the batman saga, which has always embodied a dark, ghoulish, halloweenish tone. as well, the plural of the word "child" is notable; fritz springmeier documented the mind control methods used by the cia, in which a personality is compartmentalized and split into various independent identities. (or of course it could signify the involvement of other people/accomplices). finally the word "prank" infers something not so serious - perhaps whatever state he was in, he was unable to grasp the gravity of his actions due to whatever influence he was under.

transiting pluto is currently conjuncting his natal neptune as well. would be interesting to see his chart with proper birthtime to know what house neptune rules. a late pisces ascendant would put his mars/pluto in the 8th, moon in the 6th, and his sag stellium in the 9th, which would be fitting with the shy, brilliant and studious picture that is being painted in the media.

in addition his chiron would be in the 3rd in gemini, sitting opposed to uranus, saturn, sun. this in itself probably says a lot about the fact that he doesnt seem to have an internet presence - no communication, fear around communication. added to that the opposition to uranus - he may have felt completely un-unique, unheard, unnoticed - and saturn/sun, not a master of himself, not a man of his own accord. there is a lot of identity insecurity here.

The writer describes characteristics of schizophrenia and proposes that some of them could be seen in a video of a presentation Holmes made in high school. The brief clip from that video shows someone who is obviously more engaged and focused than what we've seen of him in the last few days. I've spent quite a bit of time working with men who are afflicted with schizo-affective disorders and have wondered whether this might have surfaced in Holmes.

What do we know about astrology and profound mental disturbances, such as schizophrenia? Are there any consistently identifiable traits or characteristics to be found in horoscopes?

Considering that I was a fan of Batman when I was a little kid, this atrocity was disturbing to me.

The Mars Pluto conjunction of James Holmes was quite distinctive in his chart, and he has a very, very afflicted Moon (squaring Chiron, Saturn, Sun and Uranus). So I'm not surprised he is struggling to be emotionally balanced.

However, I think several factors came into play.

1. The heist committed by the 1% has led to a 50% unemployment/underemployment rate among recent grads. And given the tendency of Americans to blame themselves instead of an imbalanced monetary system, maybe Holmes developed feelings of inadequacy and disgust (he had an undergrad degree in neuroscience and ended up working at McDonald's).
Nonetheless, even with a 50% unemployment/underemployment rate among recent grads, real-life networking is still a necessity (and shyness has to be overcome), even for retail. Considering that Holmes was a loner, he was at a serious disadvantage.
2. Given the pressures for university (undergrad and grad) to really excel and master material in a short amount of time, maybe Holmes struggled to deal with the pressures of grad school? If college were more affordable and if a more sustainable pace were offered, maybe he would've had less stress.
3. Even if a person never had a record of wrongdoing, guns shouldn't be so easily accessible to people. Even people who are usually emotionally balanced can have very tough times in their lives, and guns should be inaccessible to them during those times.
4. When politicians have blood on their hands, what kind of example are they setting for their citizenry?

Unfortunately, the response seems to be "let's put police in theatres" instead of having a less stressful economic system (ending the endless growth paradigm, either having a non-monetary system or a fairer monetary system depending on the social context...so that college can be just as reasonably paced as sports classes), instead of implementing sensible gun control measures accompanied by finding ways of making people feel safer and confident in America (if people feel safer, then the need to have a gun would be diminished right?)...

But then again, government officials spend more time with and are more afraid of NRA bullies and banking bullies than ordinary moviegoers.

To be fair though, at least a Colorado gun club noticed that James Holmes was emotionally disturbed and therefore could not join their club. The fact that even gun enthusiasts noticed something wrong with James Holmes is reassuring.

In response to Columbine, there are more police in schools. And one sad result of this is that more young people have criminal records over really small things, and thus fewer job opportunities. So more police is not going to improve the situation.

There is a need to overcome certain taboos, and I don't know how that is possible.

I think it's fairer for gun enthusiasts to sacrifice some of their desires and to rein in the private bankers instead of putting more restrictions and pressure on schoolchildren and moviegoers. A more responsive, more accessible, less expensive and more effective mental healthcare (ie more profound and more empowering than medication) system could help too (though there are times when a patient is more receptive to advice than others), but that would require the courage to deal with big pharma and the health insurance companies.

Every individual has desires, but individuals must make a concerted effort to align those desires with the public interest.

Unfortunately though, culture dies hard (culture is like a series of good and bad habits, and it's tough to get rid of bad habits in this case). There are too many taboos in America that prevent problems from being solved. There are topics that urgently need to be discussed, yet they are hard to discuss.

Concerning astrological charts of people who have committed violent crimes compared to people with similar natal charts who have not committed any crimes, indeed it all depends on how the energies are used.

Young people are being expected to take in a lot from this world, especially since the Pluto in Scorpio generation needs a positive outlet to deal with the darkness and the disturbing truths of this world. They need authentic help and the older generations should give young people reasons to truly believe that life can be wonderful, not pills or superficial words.

And as far as the Sagittarius stellium age group is concerned, on the one hand, they want to explore ideas and philosophies, but at the same time, they fear embracing ideas and philosophies because of the nuttiness these ideas can bring. Paradoxically, stubbornness with certain ideas is also possible. It's quite a balancing act to deal with.

i just read that article and it did not say that at all. all it contained was admitted guesses and conjecture.

as well, for the author of that article to insinuate that holmes was going crazy because he was doing a project on temporal illusions is irresponsible and uninformed journalism, as well as faulty reasoning. the concept of temporal illusions is nothing new, and as someone who was pursuing a phd in neuroscience, is very relevant to holmes line of study. it took me all of 2 minutes to look it up and understand the concept. what do people think hes going to do projects on? obviously the layman is going to have no capacity to understand anything that he was studying by simple virtue of the complex subject matter. just because this author couldnt take the 2 minutes of his life to google temporal illusions and understand it and how it related to holmes field of study, certainly doesnt make holmes a schizophrenic or mentally ill.

i did a project in the 12th grade about drug use and the literary mind and read passages from works by burroughs and kesey to the class... that doesnt make me an opium eater.

is it a good thing he was excluded from this club? so he is once again rejected. what is the process do they then report him to the police (I think I know the answer here - no) so he is left alone emotionally unstable with an arsenal of weaponary.

I guess the gun debate is one for americans. but from the outside it looks very odd. if you decide to keep them you need some protocol in place.

I think it's interesting that the bankers and Wall Street are probably partially responsible for the nervous breakdown of James Holmes. So they should be investigated too just in case...

Concerning the gun club's rejection of James Holmes, I doubt James Holmes was reported to the authorities before the rampage. So you do have a point, a more rigorous protocol is probably needed. While it stopped James Holmes from gaining more knowledge about guns, it did nothing to defuse his internal rage.

I have found the gun debate surreal in America, but the problem is it's not easy to talk about without offending a few people (even if it's in the public interest), and people in urban areas have different contexts from people living in rural areas.

For a country that prides itself on being accepting of other people's individuality, bookish people with awkward social skills and personal issues have had a tendency of getting the shaft.

Unfortunately, intellectual merit alone doesn't bring many opportunities without having a few connections (usually, people need to know other people in order to be able to showcase their talents). In a service economy especially, social skills are valued more than being knowledgeable about certain topics.

And even in more bookish professions, a minimum of social skills is necessary to have a pleasant atmosphere among co-workers.

There are many types of intelligence though. While I may be knowledgeable about the grand scheme of life (with Pluto in Scorpio in the 8th house, it's like I feel the Earth's pulse, but my insights aren't always appreciated. I've learned to accept that), I was ok grade-wise. I can learn a language relatively quickly, I can write, I'm more comfortable with the qualitative aspect of science, I am working on feeling more confident and at ease with the quantitative aspect of science. I have pushed myself to overcome my shyness about networking, and I keep on working on my social skills (being in workplaces where I am accepted for who I am and where my boss has a gift in dealing with people has helped tremendously in developing those skills). I am also working on my physical capabilities to open more doors.

Yuusha. the geek versus the 'jock' is one that constantly plays out in movies. The geek often winning out but maybe not in real life.

Im not really sure that anyone can make any sense out of this random event.

For some reason I have been drawn to his case. I have several very significant issues happening in my life to lead me to this I am sure. My very brilliant father is seems to be losing it and the doctor hinted he may have always been schizoaffective but we accepted him as eccentric and a loner. Until he slowly over years began to decompensate.

It is the bewilderment of an extremely bright person going to the dark side I guess.

Was James always on the fence and stress, time, depression slowly tipping him over the edge?

My interest is not just the day of the horrible event but what influenced him over an extended period of time.

Pluto has been transiting his natal neptune. As we know pluto is the planet representing eruptions of a psychological nature. And as it sextiles a powerful natal pluto mars energy this Neptune would have been building for some time.

The other note worthy long transit would be transiting saturn opposing natal Jupiter in Aries. Libra saturn in a tetertotter with Jupiter in Aries. Thus balance versus explosion would have been a juggling energy for some time.

I suspect mars would have been the slow build, with a meticulous attention to detail.

I find it interesting too that he gave up the house bomb information right away to the police. It is almost as if jupiter in aries gave way to saturn in libra.

He does look lost.

Unfortunately I have meet very seductive people who are sociopaths. This is what confuses me.

Here is one of my thoughts. Does he not remind you of a time when you have had a very bad break up? So you have this very intense loner fall for someone and then loses them? So you dye your hair, put a love ad out there for wild and crazy love and then you hit a severe psychotic breakdown. I am not describing me! I am just saying ...think about it.

The other thing is he actually thought about being the Joker. The joker is this person, brilliant, inventive...and driven. And then rejected. He must have been identified with this for some time. Some part of himself schizoid from his true self.

I'm intrigued by this man and what he's done, too. Even more, though, I'm interested in how it is that someone's mind and participation in the reality that most people engage with can go sideways. Schizophrenia, psychotic breaks, mania--terrible conditions for those who have them and for those who experience their effects. Fortunately, most of the time, affected people are not dangerous to anyone but themselves.

When they are dangerous, they often believe that their circumstances are very different from what others experience at the time. For example, I knew someone years ago, when I was an undergraduate, who had some kind of schizoid break unbeknownst to his friends until he was picked up beside a road where he'd been throwing rocks and bricks at passing cars. He believed that the city was being invaded by alien insect-like creatures. Within that reality, his actions were almost heroic: he was doing battle with monstrous things. Fortunately, he didn't hurt anyone though he was pretty badly beaten up by the police in the process of the arrest. He;'d resisted, believing that the police officers were disgorged by their insectoid vehicle.

I don't know what happened to him after that. I heard that he'd been taken to hospital and was in some kind of long-term care. I hadn't known him very well before this happened. He'd been in a couple of my classes that year. The last time I'd seen him was a few days before he was arrested. He'd said he was having trouble sleeping and that he was feeling strung out from fatigue.

I'm not trying to excuse Mr. Holmes or anyone else. I'm only interested in understanding what happened, how and why.

The never-reliable Wikipedia says that the shooting occurred shortly after midnight "on the night of July 20, 2012". So is that the night of July 19/20 or the night of July 20/21? I found a news report of the event dated 6 a.m. on July 20, so I take the date and time of the event to be 00:30 MST, July 20, 2012 (and Holmes's birthday as December 13, 1987).

I attach a PAT image of Holmes's personal transits at the time of the shooting. Transiting planets are shown as white-on-black and natal planets as black-on-gray.

The personal transits are mainly squares, with one sextile, one quincunx, transiting Venus in a 0° 9' applying opposition to his natal Mercury, and transiting Pluto in 0° 39' applying conjunction with his natal Neptune. Significant?

There are six squares: Transiting Mercury and transiting Moon are each square to Holmes's natal Mars-Pluto conjunction, and transiting Mars and Uranus are each square to his natal Neptune. Transiting Mercury and Moon are almost exactly square to his natal Pluto (to within 0° 4').

This multitude of squares, and the almost exact (0° 9') tr.Venus-na.Mercury opposition, might possibly provide a basis for further comment.

Further research reveals a need for slight adjustments to times. James Holmes was born in California, though no-one seems to have a time of birth. So I'm attaching the slightly-revised graphic of his personal transits (which, in case some readers don't know, are not the same thing as aspects in a natal chart).

I've also added the graphics for his natal aspects and for the world transits at the time of the shooting (the latter shows the rare diamond pattern which was mentioned recently on another thread). These images were all made with the Planetary Aspects and Transits software, which displays aspects and transits somewhat more clearly than do the more well-known (and more expensive) astrology programs.

Of course we can interpret personal transits. Part of that, of course, has to be the acknowledgement that transits between personal planets are much briefer and felt with considerable less uniformity or predictability. Most people are skilled in ignoring the inclinations many of these brief contacts may prompt. Just because there's been a contact between natal planets or points and transiting planets doesn't mean that someone will feel it or act on it at the time, within a particular period of time, or ever. In general, there need to be many contacts of a similar nature or importance to prompt action. And as I'm sure we've all discovered, our horoscopes are full of action with contacts being made by personal and generational planets to natal and progressed planets and points, aspects between them, contacts with mid-points and so on.

Without an accurate birth time, we can't determine the angles of a chart and they're critical in estimating the timing of events.

Personally, beyond the obvious, something is way off with this whole thing. For example, do you see any resemblance below?

I'd like to see some evidence of that (which would also show how astrologers interpret personal transits, as distinct from how they interpret aspects in a natal chart), specifically in regard to James Holmes's personal transits at the time of the mass murder, as illustrated in the images attached to my previous post.

So there's really nothing extraordinary about James Holmes's personal transits at 00:30 on July 20, 2012?

Since the celestial longitude of all heavenly bodies other than the Moon changes very little during a 24-hour period, the birth time is irrelevant when considering personal transits, except sometimes in the case of aspects that the transiting Moon makes to natal planets.
