'Communism' & Saturn

Saturn's association with agriculture makes a lot of sense to me.

In my view, agriculture is an imposition of order and restriction upon nature, for the purposes of creating secure, reliable food sources.

Saturn is also thought to have an association with scarcity, while Jupiter signifies abundance.

It makes sense to me that in lean times, hunter gatherer people might resort to husbanding wild animals and purposefully planting and propagating crops as a way of holding onto or securing available food.

Interesting then that the 'Hammer' and the 'Sickle' combined then appear to symbolize BOTH Jupiter AND Saturn

Perhaps of interest; Karl Marx has Saturn in Aquarius/first house in the sidereal chart.

Or Kalr as I seem to have misnamed him.

Interesting that VENUS is more associated with a 5 pointed star NOT Mars

It is true that Venus in the sky traces pentagrams (as Mercury traces hexagrams), which phenomena I have mentioned in a thread a couple years ago; however, in this thread I am referring to the predominant Western symbolic association of the pentagram with Mars (and of the placement of Mars as the 5th planet from the Sun, taking earth and the moon into account in that count) The Mars/pentagram association (in Western) esotericism has long been much more widely known than the possible Venus connection with the pentagram (in Western esotericism the number 7 has largely been associated with Venus-which is interesting in light of 7 being connected with Saturn in Vedic occultism, and Vedic astrology/numerology) However, I do not dispute the fact of Venus connection with the pentagram from its tracings in the sky...

Back to saturn an agriculture.

good agricultural practice is to plant different crops each year over a period of time. now I cant remember what that timing is , ie wheat, rye, corn something like that. so you dont deplete the soil. I think you have one fallow year where the land is left to rest. Im not sure if that ties in with saturn cycles.

this is something that is not done today (with fertilser and chemicals) as a result the soils are depleted of nutrients. hence the development of organic farming in more recent times with a shift back to this nurturing of the soil.

so we have to listen to the cycles of nature .............saturn.

I've very lightly skimmed these replies and article but I have always thought that communism was a very aquarian thing because it was radical at the time of its inception, a complete backlash the leonine monarchism that was in Europe at the time. Communism is about everyone being on the same playing field and providing for the commune. It was a belief in the group, not one person or the monarch but the promotion of the commune through the promotion of the individual (eg worth in the working class etc).

Aquarians can be very structured or you can say have an alternative structure to the norm. They don't like change, and maybe thats why communism kind of stagnated and couldn't keep up. Also there is the fixed sign control issue too.

But that said liberalism is about the ability to express what one thinks and act as one pleases in a different manner to others which could also be an aquarian thing.

Capitalism on the other hand would be a combo of cap and aries. Cap for the reasons said by others in previous posts and Aries because its about conquest, competition, initiative, ingenuity, cunning and someone having to win and therefore not having equality.

Thanks Moog. I esp. resonated with the above, although I think that Capitalism, or the firm belief in the values of Capitalism (hard work, corporate culture and the built-up of wealth), would be a Capricorn thing, but maybe also a Taurus trait... Don't see the connection to Aries though...

Aries connection might be individual initiative, individual will to succeed/advance, etc...

Right. I always thought that Aries people are really interested in doing exactly what they want when they want it, the way they want it done, instead of being overly concerned with what they "ought" to do. They do have a tendency to be bossy though. Some are more concerned with their societal/monetary status, but I wonder if it's a trait innate to Aries itself.

I see the dichotomy of solar vs. saturnine as one of individual vs. collective, aristocracy vs. socialism.

This dynamic seemed to play out in the recent US election, with Obama representing (somewhat) socialist politics, and Romney the aristocratic politics (let them eat cake). Obama has been accused of being a communist in the past.

Obama is currently running his Saturn mahadasha, and Romney is running Sun.

Very interesting idea...

Could it so be, that most "systems" of movements represent a sign, house, or a planet?

I know twelve!

Graeco Roman
Gothic
Humanism
Renaissance
Baroque
Neoclassical
Age of Enlightenment
Romanticism
Realism
Art Nouveau
Modernism
Postmodernism

The Solar-Saturnine dichotomy is actually a Solar-Uranian one in modern astrology, since Uranus represents freedom, and the real communism is Uranian, too.

Yes, that is so.

Saturn has a foothold in every society.

Not a wish; an idea; a notion.
Some societies are Uranian and Neptunian, actually
Example: Rebel Zapatista territory (UraNep), Makhnovschina (UraNep), Amish Communities (Nep), Early Christian Communities (Nep), et cetera
Notes:
UraNep = Uranian-Neptunian
Nep = Neptunian
