Ah, interesting that you bring up Dhamma, Mon ami....hmm. The word looks close to the word "Dharma" of which, during my reading of Mahabharata has come up several times.

For those who haven't read it - do so, it's quite the tale.

  • Dhamma = Pali, the language of the oldest, original teachings of Buddha
  • Dharma = Sanskrit, the language of the Mahayana Buddhist scriptures
  • and those of some of the other older Dharma Paths

As in the sky, all clouds disappear into sky itself:

Wherever they go, they go nowhere, wherever they are, they are nowhere.

This is the same for thoughts in the mind

When mind looks at mind, the waves of conceptual thought disappear

Profound truths aside
these days
even the most practical and obvious truths
are ignored

Every day we hear people talking about the state of the economy;
not recognizing the connection between recession and greed.
Because of greed, jealousy, and pride
the economy will never become strong enough

to ensure that every person has access
to the basic necessities of life.

Our dwelling place, the Earth, becomes more and more polluted.
I have met people who condemn ancient rulers and emperors
and ancient religions as the source of all conflict.
But the secular and modern world has not done any better
if anything, it has done worse.
What jas the modern world made better?
One of the main effects of science and technology
has been to destroy the world more quickly.
Many scientists believe that all living systems
and all life-support systems on Earth are in decline.

Mind is empty, and while being empty, it still knows or experiences.
Space is empty and does not know anything.
That is the difference between space and mind.
Mind is similar to space in that it is insubstantial, not material.
Isn’t it quite amazing that something that is insubstantial is also able to experience?
There is mind, but it is not tangible or substantial.
You cannot say that there is no mind because it is the basis of everything;
it is that which experiences every possible thing.
You cannot say really that there is a thing called mind
and yet at the same time you cannot say that there is no mind.
It lies beyond both extremes of being and not being
That is why it is said
"Not existent, since even a buddha does not see it
not nonexistent, since it is the basis of both samsara and nirvana."
~ Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche

MAY ALL LIVING BEINGS BE HAPPY
PEACEFUL AND FREE FROM SUFFERINGS.

"You are the community now.
Be a lamp for yourselves.
Be your own refuge.
Seek for no other.
All things must pass.
Strive on diligently.
Don't give up." ~BUDDHA~

We think of change as having lost something

Actually, change brings a new opportunity every moment
so there are limitless possibilities
This is why we meditate on impermanence ~ 17th Karmapa

Whatever kinds of mental imagery occur

- be they gentle or violent
subtle or coarse
of long or short duration
strong or weak
good or bad

- observe their nature, and avoid any obsessive evaluation of them

Being kind to oneself ~ 17th Karmapa

~ The kindness to oneself that I was speaking of

is rather different from the self-fixation of selfishness.

For example, the Buddha said:
"I have shown you the path to liberation
but know that its achievement depends on you."

In other words, we have to take responsibility
for the achievement of liberation through our own efforts.
It is the undertaking of responsibility for one’s own liberation
that I’m referring to as kindness to oneself

What we normally mean by self-cherishing includes within it
the implicit abandonment of the welfare of others
and the rejection of any effort to achieve that welfare of others

Therefore, it is very different from what I mean by kindness to oneself

~ 17th Karmapa from the book "Compassion NOW!"
