beginners question

Hi all, and as you all have figured, I'm new.

I tried my hand at chart making about 10 years ago. I've since given my books on it to my niece and was thinking about picking up and trying to learn chart making and reading again. Sorry, I can't change the name of the post, I realized I should have put my question in a different forum after I posted it the first time.
