Sometimes considered a 'higher octave' of Venus, Neptune liberates one from intellectual consciousness, bringing extremes of beauty and love to the senses and emotions. It transcends and escapes Saturnian boundaries altogether, elevating consciousness and sensory perception to defy conventional material restrictions and personal separateness, and instead merge with all that there is to be aware of in the world. It challenges the individual to differentiate between subtle and barely conscious essential truth, on the one hand, and tantalising mirage, on the other - since it presents both. It evokes vision, which when positively expressed manifests as idealism; when negatively expressed, as escapism.

The planet Neptune
Astrologically, modern Western astrologers associate the planet Neptune with creativity, idealism and compassion, but also with illusion, confusion, and deception. Neptune governs hospitals, prisons, mental institutions, and any other place, such as a monastery, that involves a retreat from society. Its appearance coincided with the discovery of anesthetics and hypnotism. In political terms, Neptune was linked to the rise of nationalist movements throughout Europe in countries like Germany, Italy, Hungary, Ireland, and Serbia, seeking independence for their nations inspired by an idealized past of legend. It was also linked to the rise of socialism and the beginnings of the welfare state. Neptune coincided with the utopian ideals of Communism, when Marx and Engels first published 'The Communist Manifesto' in 1848.[citation needed]

In art, the impressionist movement began a trend away from literal representation, to one based on the subtle, changing moods of light and color. In medicine, Neptune is seen to be particularly associated with the thalamus, the spinal canal, and severe or mysterious illnesses and neuroses. Neptune is considered by modern astrologers to be ruler of the twelfth house.

Rulership:
Neptune

Rulership in Pisces, exaltation in Leo (or in Cancer, depending on authors), detriment in Virgo, fall in Aquarius (or in Capricorn, depending on authors).

Bunraku - the skyscript and wiki stuff sounds terribly like the material that Alan Leo 'channelled' about Neptune. It's also associated with spiritualism and spiritual fraud, and Leo was a theosophist.

I guess that is the sum of the decades of rigourous research modern astrologers have put into understanding its meaning?

Also, do you really want to be forcibly 'liberated from intellectual consciousness'? If so, why? What's so evil about being able to think?

StillOne - Jupiter, the moon, and Venus all still serve as admirably as they always have done. So no, you don't need the outer planets to do proper astrology. But some astrologers like to use them all, and a passel of asteroids, to boot.

Are we done yet?

Most Psychological/Astrological books based on the outer planets as the key to the psyche will relate something of the description I have written here, nothing new...just worded a little different.
Neptune when well aspected gives a love of mysticism and a tendency to investigate the occult. Sometimes aiding some people to develop their spiritiual faculties, psychologically delving into the psyche and bringing to the light first hand knowledge of other realms. Neptune helps one on a higher level of understanding realize the empathy of compassion towards other's, although altruism is attributed to Uranus also, Neptune will work on a more personal level. Neptune developed in the chart makes one unobtrusive and withdrawn, almost dreamy and retiring in their manner-well liked and also often the recipients of aid from others on an elaborate scale cheerfully and willingly given.
Quote: The message of the Stars: When Neptune is afflicted in Pisces the person is liable to suffer through mediumship, obsession and deception of secret enemies. There is danger of imprisonment and a tendency to indulge in drink or drugs which will end in sorrow and self undoing.
Neptune has a tendency to bring to each house a motivational drive surrounding the statements above that offset in such a way personal attributes that result in un doings being the ruler of the 12th Karma and Dharma house. Neptune rests the soul to ponder our misgivings that have brought us to sleep and dream a better dream. We sleep in our sins and heal to enlighten the burden or our un-doings.
