The Texas House voted Tuesday morning
to send the sergeant-at-arms to round up Democrat legislators
absent from the governor's special session.


On Monday, dozens of House Democrats left Texas for Washington D.C.
to break the quorum at the Capitol
and effectively stop all votes in the House. :smile:

Archaeologist Lenie Reedijk claims that the Maltese built their temples
aligned to the brightest star: Sirius.
The many temples in Malta are older than previously thought.
And they were built in honor of the brightest star Sirius
Crete is not the cradle of European culture.
Long before the first people settled on the Greek island
the inhabitants of Malta built all their temples a thousand kilometers west.

European civilization has not developed along one line.
Lenie Reedijk concludes in the book

'...SIRIUS , THE STAR OF THE MALTESE TEMPLES...'
published 2018.
argues that the many temples on the island
were not erected in honor of the goddess of fertility, as the official theory goes
but that they were focused on the points on the horizon
where Sirius, the brightest star, rose or set. :smile:
Because these points, due to the movement of the earth's axis
moved slowly to the east and west respectively
the Maltese had to build a new temple each time with a slightly different orientation. :smile:


Reedijk deduces from all these different orientations
that the Maltese started doing this in the tenth millennium BC.
That is more than four thousand years earlier
than the time when, according to official history, the first people arrived on the island.
These would have been farmers
who ventured across from nearby Sicily.
Interesting detail:
if Reedijk is right, those first people could walk to Malta.
That's how low the sea was back then.
In the past,
scientists have often provided evidence that Malta has an older history.
But those proofs and insights never made it into the textbooks. :smile:
The Archaeological Museum in Malta does not list them
any more than Wikipedia or Unesco
which has recognized the temples as World Heritage.

According to Reedijk, this is due to British rule.
Malta was a British colony until 1964
when the archeological history of the island was already set in stone.
That was the work of British archaeologist Arthur Evans
who excavated the palace of Knossos in Crete in the early twentieth century
and thereby provided evidence for the Minoan civilization.
The same Evans had also been active in Malta and had concluded that
the island's history began no earlier than 5000 BC
The nineteenth-century British school from which Arthur Evans emerged
saw the development of European culture as one straight line
beginning in the Fertile Crescent where agriculture originated
and then through Crete into Europe.

Reedijk:
“....There it culminated in a culture that rests on a hierarchy of property and power.
A culture of kings and priests.

Experts are divided on the story.
The Groningen professor of pre- and protohistory Daan Raemaekers
read the book and finds the idea that the temples refer to Sirius attractive.
“...That hypothesis has yet to be tested
for example by dating temples directly, or by checking whether
their stylistic development is compatible with their proposed age..."
