The Universe

This is going to be a thread about the universe.

Since we are all here to learn about astrology, it makes natural sense that the mind wanders to the physical planets and the stars.

This thread will include areas of interest to me, and for anyone else wishing to post, in areas such as:

- astronomy
- astro-physics
- creation theories
- astro and space travel
- nice pictures

To start off, here is a cool documentary about the Big Bang theory. Some nice evening viewing.

‘How the Universe Works - The story of Earth - A Space Discovery documentary -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2s1fv-7BM0

And a cool photo.

The above documentary was about the Big Bang theory, the beginning of the universe and how it all began with a singular source of energy.

The below article I think is a good explanation for the question ‘what came before the Big Bang?’

It doesn’t explain how the energy came to exist, but it helps describe an environment where time did not exist, and therefore thinking about how the energy got there will not have an answer that can be defined by space and time.

‘The Beginning of Time’ - Stephen Hawking: http://www.hawking.org.uk/the-beginning-of-time.html#

First paragraph -

“In this lecture, I would like to discuss whether time itself has a beginning, and whether it will have an end. All the evidence seems to indicate, that the universe has not existed forever, but that it had a beginning, about 15 billion years ago. This is probably the most remarkable discovery of modern cosmology. Yet it is now taken for granted. We are not yet certain whether the universe will have an end. When I gave a lecture in Japan, I was asked not to mention the possible re-collapse of the universe, because it might affect the stock market. However, I can re-assure anyone who is nervous about their investments that it is a bit early to sell: even if the universe does come to an end, it won't be for at least twenty billion years. By that time, maybe the GATT trade agreement will have come into effect. “

Last paragraph -

“The conclusion of this lecture is that the universe has not existed forever. Rather, the universe, and time itself, had a beginning in the Big Bang, about 15 billion years ago. The beginning of real time, would have been a singularity, at which the laws of physics would have broken down. Nevertheless, the way the universe began would have been determined by the laws of physics, if the universe satisfied the no boundary condition. This says that in the imaginary time direction, space-time is finite in extent, but doesn't have any boundary or edge. The predictions of the no boundary proposal seem to agree with observation. The no boundary hypothesis also predicts that the universe will eventually collapse again. However, the contracting phase, will not have the opposite arrow of time, to the expanding phase. So we will keep on getting older, and we won't return to our youth. Because time is not going to go backwards, I think I better stop now. “

Another cool documentary is listed below, this one talks you through the living conditions of the International Space Station.

HOW IT WORKS: The International Space Station https://youtu.be/SGP6Y0Pnhe4

The documentary was recorded in 2015, and the ISS is due to have its funding cut and sent back to Earth in 2020-24. Nasa plan to do this 'in a huge fireworks display,’ where the ISS will fall somewhere in the middle of the ocean. The majority of NASA's funding will then be directed towards sending man to Mars. The data the ISS collected about how the human body fares in space will be used towards this mission.

A couple of months ago, the U.S. Senate voted to continue funding the space station until 2030. The ship used by the U.S. to visit it is called the "Dragon"(!) Reminds me of the NN, which is anciently known as the "Dragon's Head".
