I'm not familiar with the sports you mention, but for the first or last degree to be significant you must be very certain of the start time.
Perhaps the answer is that the ASC isn't where you think it is.

Have you considered VoC moon? In these periods almost always the favorite wins.

However in horse racing a favourite could win with this astrological configuration when an outsider should win.

What's your take on Asc-Dsc in cricket ? this issue seems confusing
