Traditional Astrology For discussions on Traditional Astrology only. (Note: Typically, traditional astrology is defined as using techniques developed prior to 1700 by astrologers from the Hellenistic, Persian, Hebrew, and Renaissance eras. In general, it relies on Ptolemaic aspects (sextile, trine, square, opposition and conjunction) though there may be some exceptions, and always excludes modern planets (Neptune, Uranus and Pluto,) as well as any asteroids. The focus is less on what would be considered modern psychological chart interpretation and more on prediction. Members who wish to explore a combination of traditional and modern ideas should feel free to start a new thread in an appropriate forum for further discussion.)

Wink Re: Cadent houses being weak vs planetary joys

How would we rank joys in terms of dignities? Not numerically, but in a qualitative sense.
edit: (But I guess numerically is fine...)

Based on his table, the planets in their own houses would receive the following:

Sun + 4
Moon + 3
Saturn - 3
Jupiter + 5
Mars - 1
Venus + 5
Mercury + 7

lets keep in mind that

All is interdependent
aka
All is relative
thus
assessment of each individual natal chart
relevant to the totality of the particular natal chart
is required
because
the

generalisation-is-fun-cookbook-one-size-fits-all School of astrology
is unreliable

a planet in JOY is strengthened
with accidental debility of CADENCY minimized
because
the planet is HAPPY in house of JOY

contrast that
with for example

MARS in 12th being weakened because OPPOSITE Mars 6th house JOY
and also
MARS is debilitated by being CADENT in 12th
Mars in 12th if we are counting, has TWO accidental debilities
to be assessed along with possible strengths
such as Mars in ELEVATION in CAPRICORN in 12th
